Pre-order bonuses for Infamous: Second Son

inFamous: Second Son, the 2014-slated open world action game is one of the most anticipated next-gen console games in development. Earlier today, via PlayStation Blog, developers, Sucker Punch Productions released some info on the details of what gamers who pre-order Infamous: Second Son can look forward to in terms of bonuses.

So far, Sucker Punch has released designs for four pre-order exclusive vests your protagonist can wear in-game. These vests were designed by the people over at Penny Arcade, iam8bit, Exist 1981, and Jos. Again, these vests are available exclusively via pre-order.

Infamous: Second Son has promised us some excellent new additions from everything we have seen thus far at Gamescom and PAX gaming conventions – most notably inclusion of a brand new in-game ability and the reveal of a brand new character.

Infamous: Second Son is slated for a February 2014 release, and will be available exclusively on the PlayStation 4.

However, it depends on how you want to play it.

Exclusive to the Xbox One and launching alongside the console on November 22nd worldwide, Dead Rising 3 marks a grittier approach to the series zombie bashing. While the game will be more action-oriented and open world in natue, producer Mike Jones has also revealed that it’s perhaps the toughest game they’ve ever made.

“It’s probably the most difficult Dead Rising game we’ve ever made. We wanted to sort of have our cake and eat it, serve both kinds of gamers,” he stated to OXM during Gamescom.

However, it all depends on what the player wants. “I’m the kind of gamer who just wants to be chilled, who doesn’t want to be on a timer or a schedule, but a lot of Dead Rising fans love that timer, and love that save system, and they love breaking controllers, I guess – throwing them against the wall. So if you’re a masochist, we’re not going to ruin it for you.”

Given that Capcom talked about making an action experience similar to Call of Duty, it’s good to hear that they aren’t sacrificing what made the series unique in favour of the same. Will it make for a better game? We’ll find out this November.

Yesterday, on the EU PlayStation blog, the creative director for developers, Tequila Works, Raul Rublo Munarriz revealed brand new details and a video for the PS4 exclusive, Rime.

Munnarriz shared his excitement on Rime, and his disappointment at being unable to debut the game at Gamescom 2013:

“Gamescom 2013. Where to begin? It was hugely emotional for us after being silent for so long. Not being able to talk about Rime publically or show what we’d been pouring our creativity into for so long was really difficult.

Finally our frustration was at an end. But ends also herald beginnings, and Rime being presented to the world amongst so many other unique and creative games was the best platform for an announcement we could have hoped for.

For us, it’s not just about technology (although that’s important too!), it’s about how you create an experience – how you breathe life into your creation and set it free. Rime is a very personal project and, together with Sony, we have high hopes for our offspring!

We are happy. We create things with gusto.”

Rime has a beautiful art style and will be available exclusively on the PS4.

An in depth look at Naval and Fort game play

Earlier today, Ubisoft released a new Gamescom 2013 video, which provides us with some more insight into their upcoming release, Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag.

In this video, the Game’s director, Ashraf Ismail provides us with commentary on the game play, providing details on ships, combat tactics, and world details as he walks us through the early stages of the game. He speaks to the variance that players will experience in the naval aspect of the game. Gamers will encounter advanced military forces and will have to deal with natural disasters such as hurricanes and intense storms.

We then transition from Naval to land-based fort infiltration, giving us a glimpse of the ground combat, and of the physical capabilities of our protagonist. Once a fort is yours in-game–achieved by taking out the fort’s commander, it becomes yours, defending you from enemy attacks and opening to you the spoils contained within.

Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag releases in North America on October 29th, 2013 for Windows, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Wii U.

All 14 studios are focused on PS4, but that doesn't mean current-gen is being left behind.

It was recently announced at this year’s Gamescom in Cologne that all 14 studios under the Sony Computer Entertainment banner were working on PS4 games. However, speaking to IGN, president of Sony’s Worldwide Studios for SCE Shuhei Yoshida confirmed that there will be plenty of support for the PS3 and PS Vita.

“So what we have made the statement about PS4 is, actually, all of our studios are working on some PS4 titles. But that doesn’t mean that they are all exclusively working on PS4 titles. Many of them work on PS3 titles as well as PS Vita titles.”

This can be seen in games like Gran Turismo 6 being developed by Polyphony Digital for the PS3 while Media Molecule works on Tearaway for the PlayStation Vita. But will we be seeing any as-of-yet unannounced titles in the coming months? One would hope – after all, given that there are reportedly more than 70 million PS3 units worldwide, it only makes sense to continue supporting the platform.

Or not, according to Polyphony Digital head Kazunori Yamauchi.

Rumours had been running rampant when Polyphony Digital announced Gran Turismo 6 that it might end up hitting the PlayStation 4 after launching on the PlayStation 3. Polyphony itself didn’t really confirm the rumours, instead stating that it was open to bringing the racing simulation over to PS4 in the future perhaps.

At a recent Gamescom panel, head of Polyphony Kazunori Yamauchi remarked that if Gran Turismo 6 did ever come on to the PlayStation 4 at some point in the future, it would “evolve” into Gran Turismo 7.

Of course, he didn’t think the “vision” of GT6 would carry over into the seventh game, so it’s extremely likely that if Gran Turismo 7 did happen for the PS4, it would feature most of the content of its predecessor along with a ton of new additions. Regardless, Gran Turismo on the PS4 is being planned. When it will come out is anyone’s guess.

On the other hand, Gran Turismo 6 will be releasing on December 6th for the PlayStation 3.

Xbox 360 players won't be teaming with Xbox One or PC players any time soon (or ever).

During Gamescom 2013, Respawn Entertainment community manager Abbie Heppe has recently confirmed to Videogamer that the developer’s upcoming online multiplayer shooter Titanfall will not be supporting cross-platform play. This means Xbox 360 users won’t be able to engage Xbox One or PC players in combat.

“We will be able to offer dedicated servers on Xbox 360. Obviously…Xbox 360 players are not going to be playing with Xbox One players, they’re not going to be playing with PC; those will be separated groups.”

Heppe also talked about the Xbox 360 version, being handled by another studio and which Respawn is ensuring is “as good as it can be. We haven’t said [who is developing the 360 port yet] and I don’t think I can say right now because I would be worried that now they’re going to get inundated and I haven’t prepared them. I should probably talk to them first! But we’re working really closely with them. “Obviously we want the Xbox 360 version to be as good as it can be so our producer works with them constantly and is making sure that it definitely has our oversight.

“But since we’re still working on the [Xbox 360] port and all the feature sets for it, I honestly don’t know [how different it will be] yet. Once we reach the end of that we’ll be able to more specifically lay out what the differences between the two will be. Obviously there will be some, but we don’t even know. It’s one of those, like, ‘How much can we fit in before we have to go to cert’?”

Does this mean the Xbox 360 and Xbox One versions will differ greatly in terms of gameplay options? We’ll find out when Titanfall releases on Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC in Spring 2014.

Bungie Studios’ Destiny was at Gamescom 2013 in Cologne, and while it wasn’t featured as prominently as at E3, there was still a new video documentary and screenshots to be head. The vidoc, which can be viewed above, talks about the game’s development and how one can become a legend in the upcoming online sci-fi shooter.

The new screenshots feature a combination of the E3 demo shots and shots of spaceships, both big and small.
Destiny will be published by Activision and despite being a persistent online shooter, will be the first in a series as part of a 10 year deal Bungie has with the publisher. It features a heavy emphasis on loot gathering and guns, cooperative play and multiplayer, and public events and huge open world settings with varying races and species. Destiny will be releasing next year for PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3, most likely in the Spring.

Also due to release "soon".

The upcoming Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director’s Cut, which features new content and game tweaks that allows players who didn’t spend all their points on making unstoppable killing machines actually stand a chance against bosses, apparently retail for the full price of $60.

This was according to a Square Enix representative that spoke to Joystiq and stated that “it won’t be $60.” Of course, in terms of a release, the rep also said that it would be out “soon” so details are a little sketchy on just how much it will cost.

However, listings on Amazon have showcased that while the Wii U version could retail for $49.99, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions will retail for $29.99. Just like in the world of Deus Ex, it’s hard to know just who one can trust. Nonetheless, we’ll see if the final product justifies the price when Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director’s Cut releases for Mac, PC, PS3, Wii U and Xbox 360.

Will the Vita see a turn-around before year-end?

Though the PlayStation Vita has seen a tough time since its release with a high price tag, limited range of exclusives and competition from the Nintendo 3DS, President of SCE Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida stated to CVG that the company is still going to continue pursuing the handheld market. ”Yeah I think we can still pursue it, and I don’t think we have to make that decision now.

“Also, the distinction between the portables and mobile is [blurring], because there are all kinds of hybrids, different form factors and operating systems can still be conceived, in terms of how we characterize portable and mobile. We still like PS Vita and we know people who buy it really like it.”

This was exemplified in the Vita’s Remote Play feature, which uses the power of the Cloud to play PS4 games on the device. Gamescom 2013 was also devoted the Vita, debuting exclusives, indie titles, a price drop and much, much more. Will the device see a turn-around? Time will tell.
