Arkane Studios’ Prey becomes more and more enticing with each gameplay reveal and we’re really starting to enjoy its System Shock-like trappings. A new gameplay trailer was released during Gamescom and this one offers a look at a new weapon and ability that protagonist Morgan Yu will employ.

The GLOO Cannon is fairly straightforward – it emits an adhesive layer on to Mimics, the game’s aliens, that can stop them in their tracks. It’s one of the abilities, Mimic Matter, which is all the cooler since it allows Morgan to take the shape of inanimate matter. This may sound useless but it’s good for getting into hard to reach places like the window sill of a security office. We also get our first gameplay look of the station’s exterior.

Prey is currently in development and planned to release in 2017 for Xbox One, PS4 and PC. What are your thoughts on the snatches of gameplay shown thus far? Let us know in the comments below.

Team Ninja and Koei Tecmo’s upcoming action RPG, NIOH, just received a new and exciting gameplay trailer, taken straight from the game’s beta demo, which will soon be available to the public. The second beta phase starts on August 23rd and ends on September 6th, and it will offer a new set of weapons, ranging from hand cannon rifles and spears to dual-wielded Katanas and battle axes.

Players who participate and are able to defeat the Nakatsu stage, will be awarded “with the Mark of the Strong DLC, which will be available when the game launches.” As far as content goes, we don’t know what it will contain. The beta will also feature the Twilight mission, which will be “even more challenging.”

You will be able to re-visit the Usuki or Nakatsu stages, to try and get higher-valued loot by challenging new and more difficult enemies. Check out NIOH’s Gamescom gameplay trailer below:

Ubisoft recently announced at Gamescom that For Honor will be receiving a closed alpha test from September 15th to 18th with sign-ups currently available on the official site.

The publisher noted that, “For Honor embarks players in the chaos, fury and brutality of ruthless, visceral close-quarter combat featuring the brutal Vikings, the deadly Knights and the cold-blooded Samurai. In each faction, players will be able to choose among four different types of Heroes.”

Apparently, each faction’s heroes are “capable of making a major difference on the battlefield.” We’ll see for ourselves how well that works when For Honor’s alpha actually arrives.

If you haven’t seen it by now, For Honor is an third person hack and slash/MOBA esque game wherein players lead attacks on other factions. Each faction has NPCs and other players mixed in with fights devolving into nuanced duels dependent on sword positioning and striking. For Honor is currently slated to release on February 14th 2017 for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

EA is currently focused on its holiday 2016 line-up.

Bioware promised some new information about Mass Effect Andromeda in the Fall to make up for the relatively short presentation at E3 2016. When it was announced to be skipping Gamescom, many were skeptical about whether anything would be revealed anytime soon.

As it turns out though, holding back information on Mass Effect Andromeda was intentional. EA Studios head Patrick Soderlund told Game Informer that it’s currently focused on its holiday 2016 line-up after which it will shift its focus to Mass Effect.

“Right now we’re focused on our big titles for [October through December], and when that’s done, we’ll shift to Mass Effect. You’ll see a lot more very shortly.”

And no, it’s not like the game is in dire straits. As per Soderlund, “I just came back from a short vacation and I played through the first three hours of the game. It’s very playable, and there is no alarm about, ‘Why aren’t they showing it?’ It’s strictly that the game will get the right type of exposure at the right time.”

Soderlund also hinted at a possible remaster of the Mass Effect Trilogy. It’s not confirmation by any means but it seems to indicate EA being a lot more open to the idea than before. Mass Effect Andromeda is currently slated to release in Q1 2017 for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

Another heart-breaking teaser.

The amount of times there have been alleged leaks and screenshots regarding Half-Life 3 is absurd. This didn’t stop the folks over at the Gamescom 2016 convention from putting up an eye-grabbing poster.

At first glance, it may seem like a legit and true Half-Life 3 poster, since it’s hung up alongside the likes of Watch Dogs 2, Titanfall 2 and Sniper Ghost Warrior 3, which are officially announced games. However, if you look closely, it actually reads, Half-Life: 3, with the entire advert reading “Half-Life: 3 editors who played it back then.”

This is similar to the NeoGAF thread constructed a couple of years ago, with the deceiving title of first Half-Life, 3 screenshots, which included exactly what it said in the title, three random screenshots taken from the original Half-Life. This time, Valve itself is the one starting to see amusement in toying with their fans’ hearts when it comes to Half-Life 3. Will this game ever see the light?

Thanks, EuroGamer.

Stunningly gory.

Gears of War 4 continues to look great – at least if you are a series fan – in this brand new trailer that Microsoft released for it at Gamescom this year. The video debuts gameplay for Gears of War 4 in glorious and stunning 4K- available only to PC players now, though the game will probably get a patch to run in 4K once the Scorpio launches next year, too.

Microsoft also released the requirements for the PC version of the game, and they were actually pretty thorough with these this time around- the table includes minimum, recommended, and ideal specs for Gears 4, and separates all three by GPU vendor (Nvidia or AMD). It gives me hope that they are taking the PC release a bit more seriously this time around, and that it will not be as much of a disaster as some of Microsoft’s other PC releases have been.

You can check out the PC version requirements below (click on the image to enlarge it). Gears of War 4 launches on Windows 10 PCs and Xbox One on October 13.

Earn new cosmetics and PvP abilities.

World of Warcraft’s Legion expansion will be pretty massive. On top of introducing specific Artifacts for characters which morph and become stronger as you level up, the expansion will bring a new class with the Demon Hunter, the Broken Isles to explore and much, much more.

One such interesting addition, however, is being made to the PvP. Blizzard is introducing a new Honor system which allows you to level up and unlock PvP-specific powers. It’s also possible to earn titles and in an interesting twist, you can prestige your character for other cosmetics and rewards. Considering how PvP didn’t quite gel with players in Warlords of Draenor, these new additions are looking like a step in the right direction.

World of Warcraft: Legion is out on August 30th for PC, though players who pre-ordered can receive early access to the new Demon Hunter class early and also take part in a Legion-specific event that’s currently on-going. What are your thoughts on the new additions? Let us know below.

Eichenwalde welcomes you.

Overwatch, Blizzard’s team-based multiplayer shooter, has been receiving a fairly good amount of regular updates since launch. We’ve seen Competitive Play, the introduction of Ana, balance changes for heroes and the Summer Games event which added Lucioball and a bunch of new skins, emotes and highlight intros. However, this September, it will be receiving its very first new map with Eichenwalde.

This is essentially a German castle with varying levels of verticality in the middle of the map and will encourage different strategies from players. It will be playable at Gamescom for attendees, which is when we’ll find out what kind of mode it’s meant for (signs currently point to King of the Hill). If that weren’t enough, it even ties into the upcoming short “The Last Bastion” since it’s the place Bastion was found.

What are your thoughts on Eichenwalde as the first new map for Overwatch? Let us know in the comments below.

Update: Eichenwalde will actually be an Assault/Hybrid map. Check out gameplay footage from the same below.

Promises to detail the "entire player experience".

Bungie will be heading to Gamescom next week to showcase Destiny: Rise of Iron. In fact, it has an entire live-stream on August 16th showcasing the new Crucible mode, Supremacy, and the new maps coming in the expansion.

That’s not all though. Along with offering attendees a chance to play Destiny at Gamescom (though it’s undecided what exactly will be available), Bungie will also release a new ViDoc next week to showcase the “entire Rise of Iron player experience.” Felwinter Peak and the Plaguelands will be shown along with some insight on the various steps in your journey. Count on the new raid Wrath of the Machine being teased as well.

Destiny: Rise of Iron will be releasing on September 20th for Xbox One and PS4. It adds quite the amount of new content including a new zone, a revamped Cosmodrome, new bounties, new story missions, a new raid and lots of new gear. Other new additions include Radiant Treasures which can carry gun ornaments, Iron Engrams containing Year 1 and 2 Iron Banner gear and Archon’s Forge, a Court of Oryx-like activity.

Phil Spencer says "we'll have things to say this Fall."

Microsoft won’t be holding a conference at this year’s Gamescom like it did in 2015, which means we probably won’t have any high profile reveals like that time. Nonetheless, Xbox boss Phil Spencer isn’t discounting the fact that the company has things to say before the year.

Spencer told a fan on Twitter that, “I’ll miss Gamescom but @aarongreenberg will be there. We will have things to say this Fall, we’ll find the right times.”

This seems to indicate a fan event of sorts, perhaps like Sony’s PlayStation Experience. Spencer also said that, “I want to visit some fans I haven’t visited before and we have some things to say before end of 2016 so we’ll find the times.”

It’s possible that the event takes place after the biggest exclusives drop by October, thus allowing the company to hype up what’s coming next year (like Halo Wars 2 in February 2017). Would you like to see a Microsoft fan event before the year closes out? Let us know in the comments.
