CD Projekt RED, who created the exemplary The Witcher 3 last year, are currently hard at work on Blood and Wine, the final expansion for Witcher 3, as well as the mysterious and elusive CyberPunk 2077. However, at their financial briefing yesterday, the company also revealed that it has plans to launch one more game this year- this game will not be an RPG, as it will be “a new type of video game format previously unexplored by the studio.”

No other details on the project were revealed, but maybe it’s just a mobile game? Especially given CD Projekt RED’s historically glacial pace in developing AAA games, it can’t possibly be a new one, can it?

That apart, in the next five years, CD Projekt RED does intend to release CyberPunk 2077 – which honestly isn’t that assuring – as well as one more AAA RPG, which is.

For now, though, I look forward to Blood and Wine, which will launch in Q2 2016.

Summer is here, and you know what that means- summer sales on all major storefronts for digital games. While the big one is obviously Steam’s Summer Sale, which is coming up in a few days, others are also doing their own summer sales. Take GoG- the CD Projekt RED owned storefront will be kicking off the proceedings on its summer sale with a discount on the just released Witcher 3.

It’s a very small discount – the game’s just been dropped to £45 – but still, it’s a nice incentive, by offering a deal on one of the biggest games of the year. CD Projekt RED have also discounted previous games in the franchise, with Witcher 2 down to £2, and the original Witcher for a shockingly low £1.

The Witcher games aren’t the only games on offer, either- Jade Empire is £2, OlliOlli is £2, Gone Home is down to £3.09, Game of Thrones is £13.79; plus, you get SimCity 2000 free if you spend the equivalent of $1 in the sale. Spend $20, and you get STALKER.

Those all sound like some pretty good deals to me, personally.

GoG Galaxy went live last week, and if you are running the client, it will please you to know that the pre-load for CD Projekt RED’s highly anticipated The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is now live on it. Other platforms, at the very least Steam and Xbox Live, are expected to have their own pre-loads go live soon.

The download of the pre-load comes in at 22GB (the full game will obviously be far bigger than that- probably more than double the size), and also unlocks the full list of achievements for the game, which… is inconvenient since it can potentially spoil the game for you.

So, I guess the smart thing to do is to download the game, but not look at achievements. Or wait for the pre-load to go live on Steam, instead.

Whereas CD Projekt RED’s GoG has been an alternate service to purchase PC games for a very long time now, it has lacked the traction or hold that something like Steam or Origin was immediately able to gain, simply because it only existed as a webstore- there was no client for GoG.

That changes today, as the long awaited, previously announced GoG client, GoG Galaxy, is now available for everyone, right ahead of the launch of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt a few days from now.

GoG Galaxy includes multiple Steam like features, from auto updates for games to social features such as Friends Lists, messaging, and Achievements. Some games will even feature cross platform multiplayer, meaning a GoG version of a game can play multiplayer with a Steam version.

Features like Auto-Update aren’t mandatory, either. Players can choose to turn them off. Making it optional is the best motivation for us to make it better,” says VP of online technologies Piotr Karwowski. “We want it to be so good that you’ll actually want to use it.”

If you have an account on GOG, now’s the time to use it (although of course, you should be using it all the time anyway, since it orders so many amazing games at cheap prices with no DRM)- for a period of 48 hours, GOG is offering the 2000 video game based on the crossover of the two popular franchises, Aliens vs Predator, for free. As long as you have an account, you’re good to go.

What’s the catch, you ask? Well, this is GOG, so really, there isn’t one. GOG is doing this as part of the beta testing phase for its upcoming desktop client for its service, GOG Galaxy (although you don’t need the client or anything to do with it, to redeem this game). As with all games on GOG, this game has been updated for modern drivers and PCs, and will even run with Xbox 360 controllers, so that is great.

What in the world is The Witcher Adventure Game, you ask? It is a tie in to The Witcher Board game, set in the same universe as The Witcher video games, and following the adventures of Geralt of Rivia. And CD Projekt RED have now announced the launch of the closed beta for this game, so if you get invited, you can learn more about it.

“The moment you give people a chance to play a game so dear to you is always exciting,” says Rafał Jaki, The Witcher Adventure Game Executive Producer. “The closed beta is here! Give us your feedback and, most importantly, have fun playing!” 

“We’re really eager to hear your feedback, as the closed beta of The Witcher Adventure Game also serves as the first test of the infrastructure and services of the upcoming GOG Galaxy–GOG.com’s DRM-free online gaming platform,” said Piotr Karwowski, VP of Online Technologies, GOG.com.

The closed beta is first being made available to players who pre-ordered The Witcher 3 on GOG.com, and it will also be used as a testing pad for the upcoming GOG Galaxy client.
