After launching a mysterious teaser site with copyrights from major map data and satellite image sources like Google Maps, Acquire’s upcoming PS Vita game has finally been revealed: a dungeon RPG called Mind 0.

According to Famitsu, Mind 0 is apparently about alternate worlds. There is the real world and the spirit or “insane” world, and you can use a special ability called MIND throughout the game. Perhaps to shift back and forth between these worlds?

Interestingly, the game will have full 3D battles and cutscenes with full voice acting. Zerodiv will be the primary studio developing the game for Acquire while Zizz Studio handles the sound.

Mind 0 will be released this Summer in Japan for 6,279 yen. It’s currently unknown just how the map data comes into play but hopefully it will be some clever twist or the other. Of course, it could just be so that Mind 0’s real world is as close to our own as possible. Stay tuned.

Tenchu Developer Teasing New Map Data Based Game?

Acquire's teaser page shows copyrights for several map data and satellite image companies.

The developer of Tenchu and Way of the Samurai, Acquire, has a new project on the way for the PlayStation Vita. As of now, it’s unknown what the game is called – a teaser site has been established with the words “Are you alive” and some strange numbers. Beyond that, nothing.

However, a quick look at the bottom of the site shows copyrights to Digital Earth Technology, Digital Globe, TerraMatrics, Zenrin, and Google Maps. These companies are in charge of map data and satellite images – can it be that Acquire’s new game will have these come into play somehow? Maybe they’ll involve the images themselves rather than using map navigation as a gameplay feature.

Honestly, anything is possible. Maybe a survival horror game? We’ll wait till we get more news – particularly from the weekly Famitsu. We do know they have enough experience on the PS Vita with Shinobido 2, Sumioni: Demon Arts and Orgarhythm released for the handheld already.

Wikipedia has ditched Google Maps in favour of OpenStreetMap, and it’s not the first one to do so; Foursquare has its reasons and so does Apple for switching to OpenStreetMap, and here’s what Wikipedia’s Yuvi Panda wrote in a blogpost.

“Previous versions of our application used Google Maps for the nearby view. This has now been replaced with OpenStreetMap — an open and free source of Map Data that has been referred to as “Wikipedia for Maps.” This closely aligns with our goal of making knowledge available in a free and open manner to everyone.

“This also means we no longer have to use proprietary Google APIs in our code, which helps it run on the millions of cheap Android handsets that are purely open source and do not have the proprietary Google applications.”

Google charges around $4 to $10 for any website having more than 10,000 daily views over 25,000, and this could be the main reason for the switch.
