Sony has announced via Official PlayStation Blog that a playable demo of Gran Turismo 6 is on the way this July 2nd. On July 2nd, users can go to the PlayStation Store to download a playable demo version of the upcoming Gran Turismo 6.

Gran Turismo 6 was announced on May 15th during it’s 15th anniversary reveal for the PlayStation 3. The creator of Gran Turismo is also not ruling out the possibility of a PlayStation 4 version later down the line sometime in the future.

The interesting part about the Gran Turismo 6 demo is that it will also be another way for the fans to gain entry to Gran Turismo Academy where they can join up for real racing with the Nissan. For more information about this please check out the Official PlayStation Blog.

Many fans must have observed that Gran Turismo 6 is actually coming out after only 3 years since GT 5 came out in 2009. Yamauchi believes the PlayStation 3 was really hard to develop for (initially) but it became easier as time progressed.

“GT5 was really hard to develop, because the PS3 is a really complex piece of hardware, and it was the first time we built anything with an extensive online component,” he said in the interview.

He also shared his thoughts on the evolution of the Gran Turismo franchise as a whole. “I think the hardest part of GT1 was to make something out of nothing, and to shape it and figure out exactly what a Gran Turismo game was going to be.”

“The main difference between GT1 and GT6 is the scale of the game, it’s about 100 times bigger in scale. Initially we had 15 people working on the game and now we have 150 working on the game. But i think the one thing that hasn’t changed is that everyone working on it really enjoys the hard work, he said.”

Gran Turismo 6 also features a brand new lightning engine and according to Yamauchi, pixels will be represented more accurately in GT 6.

“It basically means the energy expressed in each one of the pixels is going to be represented more accurately. When the focus on the camera is on a certain item, the blurring and brightness of the area around it and how lights affect the environment will be rendered with more accuracy,” he said.

Sony has officially announced an event for Gran Turismo’s 15th Anniversary which will occur on May 15th 2013. This event will be supported by car companies such as Mercedes-Benz, Tesla, Toyota, KTM, Audi, Honda, Ford and Jaguar. The car manufactures will also show off numerous vehicles that are new and old.

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe president Jim Ryan has told CVG that  “it will be a pleasure to see Yamauchi-san and hear what’s next for Gran Turismo.”

He stated: “The Gran Turismo franchise continues to be extremely important to PlayStation.

“We felt that 15 years of GT was an event worth celebrating along with our colleagues from the Americas, Asia and Japan. We are very grateful to our manufacturer partners for helping us to bring together a fantastic event.

“As well as experiencing the development of the franchise and comparing the virtual and real, it will be a pleasure to see Yamauchi-san and hear what’s next for Gran Turismo.”
