First available for Nintendo Switch in August 2019 – with the individual titles available for PC shortly after – Grandia HD Collection features an “enhanced” UI, sprites, texture art and cinematics alongside widescreen support. There are also Japanese and English voice options, with other languages like French, German, Korean and Chinese (simplified and traditional) also supported.

Those seeking new challenges can try Hard Mode in Grandia 2 HD Remaster. It adds more health, damage and attack frequency to enemies. Even the bosses are less vulnerable to some attacks. Stay tuned for more details about the Collection before its Xbox/PlayStation launch.

After a short delay, Grandia HD Remaster is available now for PC via Steam. A remaster of GamesArts’ classic RPG, it retails for $19.99. Along with the first game being available for PC, Grandia 2 Anniversary Edition has been updated to the Grandia 2 HD Remaster, which is a free update for current owners.

Of course, they also have the option of switching back to the Anniversary Edition. Regarding Grandia HD Remaster, GungHo Online Entertainment America president and CEO Jun Iwasaki stated, “We are thrilled PC fans are now able play and enjoy Grandia HD Remaster. Grandia is the perfect fit for RPG fans and newcomers wanting wonderful and charming characters, a beautiful soundtrack, and a grand adventurous story.”

The first Grandia is noteworthy for its battle system – a combination of real-time and turn-based that encourages interrupting enemy attacks and seizing the initiative. Players can also use magic via Mana Eggs and explore classic locations like Parm in all their revamped glory. Then there’s the music, composed by Noriyuki Iwadare that remains excellent to this day.

Along with improved sprites and textures, Grandia HD Remaster features an enhanced UI and enhancements to the original cinematics. PC players also get the benefit of widescreen support and higher resolutions along with remappable controls on mouse and keyboard. The Grandia HD Collection is also available for Nintendo Switch.

Though it’s already available for Nintendo Switch along with Grandia 2 HD Remaster, Grandia HD Remaster has been delayed on PC. It will now launch on October 15th for Steam. Coincidentally, this is the same day that Grandia 2 Anniversary Edition will be updated to the HD Remaster version.

On November 12th, the Grandia HD Collection on Switch will receive an update to address feedback and fix issues. The delay is due to incorporating this feedback in the PC version to “replicate this same experience” as per GungHo Online Entertainment America. “We offer our sincerest apologies for those who have been looking forward to the the PC remasters, and know that we are working as quickly and carefully as possible to resolve these issues. We thank you for your patience, and hope you continue to look forward to its release.” More information on the update will be offered in the coming days.

Grandia HD Remaster is essentially an updated version of the original Sega Saturn/PlayStation One RPG with improved visuals. Sprites, texture art and the user interface have been updated along with the original cinematics. On Steam, there will be widescreen support and support for higher resolutions.

Keyboard support with remappable controls is available but dual language fans should take note – the game will have Japanese and English audio but only support English language with translations for French and German. A Japanese language option will be added later.

In August, GungHo Online Entertainment announced Grandia 1 +2 HD remasters for Nintendo Switch. The publisher has now revealed that the bundle has been renamed to Grandia HD Collection. Coming soon for the Switch, it seems that Grandia HD Remaster will launch on PC the same day as the Switch bundle. Grandia 2 Anniversary Edition will also be retitled to Grandia 2 HD Remaster.

Some of the new features that can be expected in both include enhanced details for the UI, sprites, and texture art. The original cinematics will be receiving some “enhancements” and PC users will benefit from widescreen support and customizable resolutions. Steam Cards and Achievements will also be supported on PC.

Japanese and English audio is also confirmed with both languages also supported (along with French and German translations). If that weren’t enough, both the gamepad and keyboard will be supported on PC with key rebindings.
