On October 15, PlayStation Plus Game Catalog – available to all PS Plus Extra and Premium members – will add ten new titles to its library, including Dambuster Studios’ zombie-slaying action RPG Dead Island 2, Terrible Toybox’s acclaimed point-and-click throwback Return to Monkey Island, Supermassive’s interactive horror adventure The Dark Pictures Anthology: The Devil in Me, Two Point Studios’ sophomore business simulation outing Two Point Campus, Nomada Studio’s narrative platforming adventure Gris, and IllFonic’s asymmetrical multiplayer title Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed, among others.

On the same day, those subscribed to PlayStation Plus Premium will also get access to a couple of survival horror classics in Capcom’s Dino Crisis and PlayStation’s own Siren, while PlayStation VR2’s The Last Clockwinder will also become playable for subscribers.

For starters, today, Everspace 2 has launched for Xbox Series X/S, and the open world spaceflight action RPG is also available via Game Pass on cloud and console. August 17 will bring Campo Santo’s acclaimed first person adventure title Firewatch for subscribers on console, cloud, and PC, while the day after that, August 18, will also see the launch of asymmetrical horror title The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. 

Another major day one release for Game Pass will arrive at the tail end of the month with Sabotage Studio’s highly-anticipated retro RPG Sea of Stars. Meanwhile, September 5 will see Nomada Studio’s adventure platformer Gris added to the service’s catalog.

Of course, on September 1, Game Pass subscribers will also be able to dive into the vast expanses of Starfield, provided you’ve bought the Premium Edition (which you can a 10% discount on if you’re a subscriber). For everyone else, the game launches on September 6.

Studio co-founder Adrian Cuevas took to the PlayStation Blog to talk more about Neva, calling it a “love song dedicated to our children, our parents, and our planet.” The game is set to tell the story of a young woman and her bond with a wolf.

According to Cuevas, the studio was influenced and inspired by the state of the world after development on Gris was finished, with events like the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the general problems of climate change and social unrest helping create the idea for Neva‘s setting.

Neva is set to explore the relationship people have with their children as well as their parents, and if Gris is any indication, the studio will likely execute on its emotional themes quite well.

Neva will be coming to PC and PS5, and is set for release some time next year.

Starring a young woman who has lost her voice, GRIS sees the player exploring various surreal worlds that mark different stages of grief. As she gains different abilities like flying, she collects lights that return color to the world, expanding throughout in vivid ways. Though there are some optional platforming challenges, GRIS is a story-driven title without any fail states.

It’s sold over one million copies as of April 2020. On Xbox Series X, GRIS runs at 4K/60 FPS or 2K/120 FPS, while the Xbox Series S version runs at 2K/120 FPS. The PS5 runs at 4K/120 FPS and supports the DualSense’s haptic feedback and speakers.

The Xbox Series X and PS5 versions run at 4K, but there are significant differences. The former can run at 4K/60 FPS or 2K resolution and 120 FPS. Meanwhile, Sony’s console offers 4K at 120 FPS, along with support for the DualSense’s haptics, speaker, and so on. The Xbox Series S version runs at 2K/120 FPS.

GRIS is about a girl of the same name exploring various surreal environments. The wordless narrative sees her attempting to regain her singing voice and restore color to the world. Though it offers platforming and puzzles, players can’t die or fail. Stay tuned for more details when GRIS launches next week for Xbox and PS5.

So this essentially means there will be a sale for Devolver’s titles today. The publisher has had some rather big releases lately like WolfEye’s Weird West and Flying Wild Hog’s own Shadow Warrior 3 so it should be interesting to see if they’re on sale. Either way, with big-name games like Inscryption, Gris, Death’s Door and Loop Hero to more niche titles like Disc Room and Boomerang X, there should be something worth picking up.

As for Trek to Yomi, it’s out today on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS4, PS5 and PC. It will also be available for Xbox Game Pass. Check out its launch trailer here and some “facts” about its setting and gameplay features here.

Update: With the announcement of its next wave of Xbox Game Pass titles, Microsoft has confirmed that the below games will be leaving on January 29th.

Microsoft hasn’t announced the next slate of titles that will be coming soon to Xbox Game Pass (aside from Remedy’s Control releasing for PC subscribers this week). However, some of the titles that will be leaving in February have been revealed. A quick look at the “Leaving Soon” section of the Xbox Game Pass Library page confirms that Final Fantasy 15 Royal Edition on Xbox One will be gone soon.

Final Fantasy 15 Windows Edition is also on the way out along with Gris, Death’s Gambit and Reigns: Game of Thrones on PC. Both platforms will be losing out on Sea Salt, Indivisible and Fishing Sim World: Pro Tour as well. So if you’re looking to try out any of these games soon, they’ll be exiting the Game Pass library “in the next two weeks.”

As for what can be expected this year, Microsoft has confirmed that more Final Fantasy titles will be coming to Game Pass this year. While it didn’t explicitly outline which ones, specific launch dates are on the cards at the very least. In the meantime, stay tuned for more details on Xbox Game Pass’s offerings for February 2021 in the coming days.

Mortal Kombat 11

Despite how motion capture is utilized when quicker attacks start flying, there’s no denying how good the overall animation work is here. Facial expressions are on point throughout, comparing favorably to Injustice 2. Even in terms of attack animations, seeing each character’s unique stances and abilities flowing into one another, creating a gorgeous rhythm during fights is mesmerizing. That’s even with some of the more exaggerated actions taking place with Fatal Blows and Fatalities.

Nomada Studios’ beautiful 2D platformer GRIS has hit a new sales milestone since launching in December 2018. According to the developer on Twitter, over one million copies have been sold. It went on to thank “our team, families, Devolver Digital and specially to all of you who made this possible.”

GRIS is the tale of a young woman who’s lost her voice and battling against sorrow. As she explores the world, opening up new paths and gaining new abilities, the color eventually starts coming back into her life. However, it isn’t long before a dangerous darkness begins stalking her.

Though renowned initially for its visuals, GRIS has also been appreciated for its soundtrack and environmental story-telling. It launched first for PC and Nintendo Switch, became profitable in the first week or so, and sold 300,000 copies as of March 2019. GRIS has since come to iOS and PS4. You can also play the game on Xbox Game Pass for PC if you have a subscription.

GRIS is also currently discounted by 50 percent on Steam for PC as part of Devolver Digital’s weekend sale. The sale ends today though so grab it while you can.

Microsoft’s expansion of Xbox Game Pass to PC has been progressing rather well, and the service’s catalog of games has been growing on a steady basis- just recently having added Frostpunk and FTL: Faster Than Light. Now, three more indie hits will be coming to the service.

Microsoft have announced that “in the next few weeks”, Xbox Game Pass on PC will be getting Asobo Studio’s incredible narrative-driven action-adventure title A Plague Tale: Innocence; Dead Mage’s roguelike action RPG Children of Morta; and Nomada Studio’s blissful platforming adventure title Gris. 

Those are three excellent games, each a worthy addition to the Game Pass’ library. For those who haven’t tried out these titles, this is a great opportunity to do so.
