Your chance to see whether or not the upcoming Gran Turismo game is up your alley.

Polyphony Digital will be releasing a new demo for Gran Turismo Sport ahead of its launch on October 9. This demo should help those on the fence about the new game, and the eSports inspired online game direction that it seems to be taking, make their minds up about whether or not the title is going to be worth their time.

The demo will be available for only a limited time- four days, to be specific. The demo will be made available on October 9th at 6:00pm PT and will be taken offline on October 12th at 8:00am PT; Sony has announced that your personalized garage cars and in game credits will carry over into the full game, which is further incentive to check it out.

It also sounds like the demo itself will be reasonably full featured- the campaign, sport, and arcade modes will all be playable, as well as the Scapes Photography mode and Custom Livery Editor. Gran Turismo Sport launches on October 17 for PS4 exclusively.

This game sounds less and less appealing the more we learn about it.

When Gran Turismo Sport was announced, I was actually pretty damn pumped for it- it looked like it was going to be a genuinely progressive entry in the formerly pioneering franchise that had become too unfocused in recent years. But the more I hear of the game, the more I lose excitement for it- for instance, the game will have less than 200 cars. Graphically, it looks pretty damn lacking. It will be lacking basic features like dynamic time of the day and weather transitions. And, it looks like it may be lacking the most basic requirement of them all- an offline single player career mode.

According to an analysis of the game’s modes on the GTPlanet forums, it seems as though the campaign will be broken down into Beginner’s School made up of driving lessons, Circuit Experience which appears to be a mode for familiarizing yourself with the tracks, Mission Challenge that requires you to meet the goal of whatever the specific challenge is, and Racing Etiquette that bestows the valuable teachings of sportsmanship- this, and there is Sports Mode, which is the online component of the game.

Where is the single player Career Mode? It doesn’t look like it exists. Which… man, this game is sounding more and more like Street Fighter 5, something that might play well, but is going to be lacking in some very basic modes and features. What a disappointment.

The radio silence broken, at least.

We haven’t seen much of Gran Turismo Sport ever since it was announced at Sony’s Paris Games Week conference last year- that, plus a history of horrific delays for previous games in the franchise, made a lot of people think that this game might miss its announced 2016 release window, too. However, it seems as though the game is coming along well, and that it is getting ready to break its radio silence next week.

“We’re thrilled to announce that on 19th May we’ll be streaming brand-new GT Sport footage from an exclusive London event, and sharing new details about the latest entry in Polyphony Digital‘s acclaimed racing series,” said producer Kazunori Yamauchi. “Not only that, but we’ll also be streaming Pre-Season Test of FIA Gran Turismo Championship Cups – the Nations Cup Pre-Season Test and the Manufacturer Fan Cup Pre-Season Test. We’re also lucky enough to have nine full-scale Vision GT Cars and two quarter-size models present at the event, which is a world first!”

So, new footage and a pre-E3 blowout next week. Hopefully followed by a release later this year.

GT Sport is due to launch in 2016 exclusively for the PS4.
