If there’s one combination in gaming that just feels so perfect, it’s the storied Gundam series and shooters. While the series hasn’t been on consoles for a long time now, we’re finally on the cusp of at least one major announcement.

Bandai Namco has set the date for the “Gundam Game New Year Festival 2018” for January 16th at 9pm Japan Time. The livesteam has been explicitly said to include “Home Gundam Games”, which at least outlines that it’s not just yet another mobile title which nobody will end up caring for.

Of course, what exactly we can expect from the livestream is unknown beyond that it will include talk of games for home use. The specific Japanese term does not exclude handhelds, such as the PlayStation Vita or Nintendo 3DS, which have a huge user base in Japan. Perhaps we’ll hear about the rumoured Gundam Battle Operation 2 for PlayStation 4.
