Remember how Sony reset PlayStation Network passwords last week, following reports of “irregular activity”? It seems that those activities are still going on, as many users on Reddit have complained about charges being attributed to their accounts without their knowledge. One such user talked about receiving notices about transactions being made through his PSN account while his PS4 was switched.

Many users have complained about the same thing, especially with regards to trading cards for FIFA 14. One user stated that, “Yeah looks like someone got a hold of your password. This happened to me on my 360. And of course it was also because of FIFA. That game is behind a large quantity of these unauthorized charges. All because of the trading cards or whatever it is in the game that you can buy with real money. Change password to something really complex, don’t use it anywhere else and maybe even change the email associated if you can.”

Another user stated that, “Something similar happened to me on Xbox 360, was charged $135 and they bought FIFA and season pass and crap. Microsoft cleared it all but it took 3 weeks and they temporarily closed my account during their investigation.”

As for the person in question, he contacted PSN Support. “Just got off the phone with a PSN rep. He basically said that my money will be refunded with 5-7 business days but it does work on a case-by-case basis. I asked if they’ve experienced a lot of compromised accounts and he said that they’ve had a few of these happen recently. Let’s hope it’s not a widespread issue.

“Maybe it was my fault for not having a stronger password to begin with. You can imagine the shock as I’m lying in bed and see 4 emails pop up that funds are being added while my PS4 is off.”

Several users on Twitter also reported the same issue. We have some of the them noted below:

Someone charged $150 on my @PlayStation account. They told me "all sales final" now I find out PSN was hacked 6 days ago...
— little buster (@little_busterOL) December 4, 2013

That's cool, someone hacked my PSN account and added $150 to my wallet. Thanks douche, I barely even use that thing.
— John Z (@JohnZSays) December 3, 2013

If you are on the PSN, change your password ASAP. They got hacked again. CC #’s compromised again. Shouts to @BasedLaRock for the info.
— Jcenky (@Jcenky) November 27, 2013

According to Nintendo’s Japanese official website, Nintendo Club has gotten hacked. Nintendo has warned their reward members of Club Nintendo to change their passwords and log-in information as soon as possible due to a recent hack that has happened at Club Nintendo Japan.

Polygon has stated that a number of access errors started to pop out of nowhere since July 2nd and Kotaku has reported that there was 23-thousand unauthorized log-ins between June 9th and July 4th. Thankfully, you don’t need a credit card to join Club Nintendo, so no money was stolen from any of the customers.

Things have been going quite bad for Nintendo for quite a while now, what can happen next?

Let us know what you think of this situation in the comments below.

Earlier today Ubisoft sent out emails to users who are registered with Uplay warning them that their information might have been stolen due to a recent hack that occurred earlier today on the publisher’s website. Thankfully, no credit card information has been compromised.

Here is the official statement regarding the hacking:

“Data was illegally accessed from our account database, including user names, email addresses and encrypted passwords,” said Ubisoft. “No personal payment information is stored with Ubisoft, meaning your debit/credit card information was safe from this intrusion.”

There are a lot of confirmed reports of the PS3 being hacked again. This time, it’s a lot more worrisome for Sony as you can play games via burned Blu-Ray discs. These are the games that are currently working.

What this does is allows installation of unsigned code on the PS3. You can bypass any Sony created code through it. This is truly bad news for Sony, as they have been fighting hard to prevent piracy. They even sued a lot of hackers for hacking the PS3 before, and it remains to be seen as to what they do now.

You cannot access the PSN while using the dongle so it is only for single player games. It will be interesting to see what Sony does now. The dongle is confirmed to be working at many places, and they have already started taking orders for $45 per each piece.

The dongle is from Indonesia, so Sony’s hands are tied when it comes to the law. We do not condone piracy but is this the final blow to the security of the PS3?

Looks like times are going to be tough for Sony in coming days.

With the PS3’s inner working laid bare, the system could face greater levels of piracy than those seen on handheld systems.

Martin Walfisz, one of the founders of Ubi Massive, told GI.Biz that without needing a specific mod-chip to run homebrew and pirated software, it’ll be very tough to detect which consoles have been compromised.

“If that hack works as reported, I don’t believe that Sony can regain any control,” Walfisz said. “They could try to employ a similar system to Xbox Live, so that people running hacked systems won’t have access to PSN. But Sony won’t be able to stop people from running pirated game copies as long as the machines are not hooked up online.

“And given that it seems that users won’t even need a hardware mod-chip to play pirated games, I don’t believe that Sony can even detect which users to lock out from PSN.”

He also warned that piracy levels on the PS3 are likely to climb to those seen on the PSP, if not further, considering the large install base of the system.

“They way the PS3 seems to have been hacked, it is now completely open. The hackers can create pirated copies that completely mimic the official Sony digital signature, making it extremely easy to use pirated copies of games, without the need for any hardware chip modifications.

“I would assume that pirated copies can be stored on the HDD as well, making it so easy to use that PS3 piracy, given time, might even surpass the handhelds.”

Sadly, he also informed that the only way for Sony to tackle this threat is to release new hardware, which he thinks won’t be happening anytime soon:

“I don’t think that they can do much. Once a console is hacked this completely, the hardware manufacturer can’t really do anything. They could maybe update their hardware for new console sales, which would be a long and expensive process, but that won’t stop users from running pirated copies on the current hardware. And updating the hardware needs to be done in a way that doesn’t prevent users from running already-released games. I doubt that can be done.”

He echoed that games console must constantly be connected to the internet if they wanted to remain secure and free from hacks.

There’s a lot more that he spoke about and Gamingbolt will be bringing you more on this soon.
