The mind behind experimental horror games like Immortality and Silent Hill: Shattered Memories has announced two new games.

Sam Barlow, known for his work on experimental video games like Her Story, Telling Lies, and more recently, Immortality, has announced that he is working on two new games. Currently titled Project C and Project D, both games are going to be distinctly different from each other, with one title being similar to Barlow’s more recent work, while the other would be more reminiscent of older titles that Barlow has worked on, like Silent Hill: Shattered Memories.

“One of them is in the tradition of Immortality, building on some of that tech but going in a cool direction,” said Barlow describing Project C in an interview with Kinda Funny Games. “I think, you look at the Steam tags, you can see that it’s horror, sci-fi horror, it’s a very cool premise. It might be like the chunkiest mechanic we’ve come up with within this kind of non-linear space, it’s a cool little puzzle box.”

Barlow goes on to describe Project D as being for fans of his older works, since it will be a third-person survival horror game. Barlow refers to it as what you would get if you fused the talent behind Immortality with a third-person survival horror game.

Both Project C and Project D have gotten short teaser trailers, which feature heavily distorted imagery. You can check out the teasers for both titles below. Interestingly, both games have also gotten Steam pages. Details, however, are sparse, as just about anything that would describe the titles has been heavily redacted.

The critically acclaimed narrative title is free for Netflix subscribers. It is also playable on Apple iPhone and iOS devices.

Half Mermaid Productions’ full-motion video adventure title Immortality is now available for iOS and Netflix. Subscribers of the latter can access it for free, though this may vary based on the region.

First available on Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Game Pass, Immortality is the story of fictional actor Marissa Marcel. She mysteriously disappeared after filming three movies which never released. Several years later, the films re-emerge, and the player must match clips from each one to eventually unravel Marcel’s fate.

In addition to movie scenes, there’s behind-the-scenes footage and interviews, providing even more clues about the people in Marcel’s life. Immortality has received strong critical acclaim since its release. It was also nominated for The Game Awards 2022, including Best Game Direction and Best Performance (for Manon Gage, who plays Marcel).

Though also in development for Android, Immortality hasn’t been made available for the platform yet. Stay tuned for more details on the same.

The narrative title is coming "very soon" for Apple and Android on Netflix, with the developer taking extra time to ensure "the best possible experience."

Half Mermaid Productions’ narrative title Immortality is now available for Xbox Series X/S and PC, along with launching on Game Pass. Directed by Sam Barlow of Her Story and Telling Lies fame, it offers a mystery centered on three unreleased fictional films and the disappearance of their star, Marissa Marcel. Check out the launch trailer below.

As “Barlow,” players essentially sift through clips of three films – The Monk (1968), Minksy (1970) and Two of Everything (1999). Closely examining each clip will unveil more footage, interviews, behind-the-scenes footage and more. What are the connections between each, and how do they pertain to Marcel’s disappearance? It’s ultimately up to the player to find out.

Though Immortality is exclusive to Xbox and PC at launch, it will release “very soon” on Apple and Android on Netflix. In a press release, producer Natalie Watson said the team is taking “some extra time on our mobile release to ensure it’s the best possible experience for Netflix members around the world.” Stay tuned for more details on other platforms in the coming months.

Creator Sam Barlow says the developer is "happy to spend a month more to ensure the experience is as polished as possible."

Half Mermaid Productions’ Immortality has faced a delay. Instead of releasing on July 26th, it will now launch on August 30th for Xbox Series X/S, PC, iOS and Android (along with launching day one on Game Pass). Director Sam Barlow noted in a recent tweet, “It has taken decades for Marissa Marcel’s work to find the light of day, so we’re happy to spend a month more to ensure the experience is as polished as possible.

“We hope everyone anticipating the game will understand this necessary evil and continue to prepare to dig into the most complex mystery I have tried to answer yet: what happened to Marissa Marcel?”

Who is Marissa Marcel though? In Immortality, she’s the lead actor in three fictional films – The Monk (1968), Minsky (1970) and Two of Everything (1999). The crazy part is that none of these films has ever been released and Marcel would eventually go missing. It’s up to an individual named “Barlow” in the present year to unravel the mystery and piece together Marcel’s fate.

To do this, players will need to examine each film, matching together different shots and discovering the various connections between them. Despite being an Xbox console exclusive at launch, Immortality is coming to additional platforms later. Stay tuned for more details on in the coming days.

Her Story director Sam Barlow's next FMV adventure is an interactive movie trilogy about the disappearance of actor Marissa Marcel.

During the PC Gaming Show, Half Mermaid Productions’ narrative FMV title Immortality has finally received a release date. It’s out on July 26th for Xbox Series X/S (as a timed console exclusive) and PC via Steam and GOG along with launching day one on Game Pass. Check out the latest trailer below.

As an interactive movie trilogy, Immortality focuses on three fictional films with actor Marissa Marcel. Within the game’s story, none of these movies has ever been released while Marcel herself went missing. As a result, a character named “Barlow” (no doubt referencing director Sam Barlow) must attempt to solve this mystery.

This involves examining each film, matching different characters and shots together. Whether it approaches the brilliance of Barlow’s first game, Her Story, remains to be seen. Immortality will also be coming to additional platforms in the future so stay tuned for more details on the same in the coming months.

The latest full-motion tale from Her Story creator Sam Barlow is also coming to Xbox Game Pass. Other platforms will be announced later.

Half Mermaid Productions released a new trailer for Immortality, the upcoming full-motion adventure centered on fictional actor Marissa Marcel. Developed by Her Story and Telling Lies creator Sam Barlow, the title is confirmed to be coming to Xbox Series X/S and PC in Summer 2022. It will also launch day one on Xbox Game Pass.

The story touts itself as an “interactive movie trilogy.” Ambrosio is directed by Alan Fischer in 1968 and features Marcel as Matilda; Minsky is written by John Durick in 1970 and sees Marcel being suspected of the death of an artist; and Two of Everything in 1999 is also by Durick, seeking to explore “the duality between a successful pop star and her body double.”

The kicker is that in-game, none of these movies has ever released and Marcel has gone missing. In 2022, a “Barlow” seeming becomes involved in the mystery surrounding them. Soon enough, the player will also have to unravel the mystery.

Immortality will be a timed console exclusive for Xbox Series X/S with additional platforms to be announced later. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.

The title features a who's who of horror/thriller writers and focuses on actress Marissa Marcel, who featured in three unreleased films.

Sam Barlow isn’t your typical game creator – titles like Her Story and Telling Lies have been more like interactive movies with real-life actors and complex, rich narratives. His next title Immortality appears to be going down the same path. It’s currently set to release in 2022 for PC and focuses on fictional actress Marissa Marcel.

Marcel made three movies but for some reason, none of them were ever released. By the trailer’s end, we learn that it was her “dream” to be an actress (which feels like some kind of grim foreshadowing). Along with Barlow as director, the title features writing from Allan Scott (Queen’s Gambit), Amelia Gray (Mr. Robot, Maniac) and Barry Gifford (Wild at Heart, Lost Highway).

You’ve probably noticed that each writer has a penchant for psychological thriller/horror films so it should be interesting to see how Immortality progresses. Stay tuned for more details and updates in the coming months.
