Could the classic hack and slash series be making a comeback?

Capcom remarked earlier this year that it would be looking into remastering more of its classic titles following the success of Resident Evil HD Remaster and it seems like Onimusha could be next on the list. NeoGAF spotted a new trademark registration for the game, as opposed to a renewal, which could hint at a brand new game in the franchise.

It may not necessarily be a triple-A release for consoles and PC, or anything more than a remastered collection, so temper your expectations for now.

Onimusha had a pretty good following ever since the introduction of the first game in 2001 for the PlayStation 2. The series evolved from its survival horror roots to incorporate more hack and slash elements. Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams (2006) even sported co-op mechanics and leveling systems with its campaign.

Would you like to see a sequel to Onimusha or remasters of the classic games in the series? Let us know in the comments.

"We're a company that just likes to push forward."

If you were holding out for a Mass Effect HD Remaster Collection, then EA COO Peter Moore has some bad news for you. Though various publishers like Microsoft, Capcom, Sony, etc. have taken to releasing HD remasters and ports of past games, Moore told IGN that it’s not something that EA is interested in.

“We’re a company that just likes to push forward. For a lot of companies, remakes are a way to drive revenue. It’s sub-cost, it’s an IP that’s there, you can remaster, and that’s great. We don’t do that here. I don’t think that’s ever been in our culture.” Moore also pointed out that EA doesn’t really have time to work on HD remasters.

There have been instances of EA compiling games into collection and releasing them on other platforms like the Mass Effect Trilogy but its games were available separately on the same console generation and not remastered. It doesn’t seem that remasters of past hits will be happening anytime soon either, though games like Mass Effect will be available on Xbox One through the upcoming backwards compatibility update.
