The expansion is set to hit Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft on December 6, and will feature 203 new cards. This number includes the 32 core cards for the Death Knight.

As should be obvious for anyone familiar with the Warcraft setting, the starting character for the Death Knight is Arthas Menethil. The class makes use of runic alignments in its cards. The use of runes also defines the type of decks that can be constructed for the new class, needing a balance between the three runic colours.

The Death Knight is the second addition to Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft‘s core cast of 9 classes, following the Demon Hunter. This brings the total number of playable classes in the game up to 11.

Blizzard’s Heasrthstone, their Warcraft based collectible card game, has been a tremendous success. How tremendous? Well, according to an update shared by the developers of the game, the game has now hit 100 million players worldwide, across all the platforms that it is available on.

To celebrate the milestone, Blizzard is giving away six card packs to every player who logs in between November 7 to November 11. Everyone will also get access to a quest they can repeat up to five times, with a yield of 100 gold each time for a total of 500 gold. Given that Hearthstone is free, and there’s no actual caveat associated to the age of your account, it is in fact entirely possible for you to simply make an account right now and log in for these bonuses, and get started on your Hearthstone journey that way.

Blizzard’s Hearthstone is one of the most popular games in the world, with its deceptively simple seeming surface masking a deep and competitive eSports scene. It also continues to be one of the most successful examples of a AAA free to play game we have seen so far.

A lot of this has to do with just how excellent Blizzard’s support for the title has been- whether it be balance fixes or new content, they have been very receptive to the community so far. The newest expansion for the game, which was just announced today, will hopefully continue that trend.

Hearthstone is one of the most popular games in the world, with Blizzard’s free to play card game standing out due to its deviously addictive design, marrying accessibility with a shocking level of depth and nuance. It could also one day come to the Nintendo Switch.

While that is not something that has been confirmed, or even hinted at, it is something that Blizzard’s Mike Donais, who is a senior designer on the game, seems to like the idea of. Speaking to Express UK about the subject, Donais said, “I personally haven’t talked about it but I’m more focused on card design. Hearthstone is available on iPads and phones, so it’s a good discussion worth having.” Donais goes on to note, along with Blizzard’s Matt Place, that a Switch port would not require any reworking of the interface, unlike a port to the Xbox One or PS4 would- that alone gives it an advantage.

This is not the first time Blizzard has discussed bringing its games over to Nintendo’s new console- they have previously discussed Overwatch on the Switch, too. Given just how popular these games are, and just how well Blizzard’s design philosophy meshes with Nintendo’s own, these would all be a great fit for the Switch- let’s hope Nintendo and Blizzard can work together to make this a reality.

Here’s some great news for Hearthstone players. The One Night in Karazhan adventure is set to go live on August 12th. You can pick it up for $19.99, for the whole lot, or $6.99 per wing. The new adventure features four wings, so paying upfront for the whole set makes a lot of sense.

Incidentally, this is the same day No Man’s Sky launches on PC. so you’re going to be pretty spoiled for choice. Buying the entire adventure before August 19th makes you eligible for a special Karazhan-themed card back.

One Night in Karazhan is a fairly hefty adventure, offering 45 new cards. New cards include the (in)appropriately named Kindly Grandmother, The Curator, and others. If you’re interested in the lore, Karazhan featured way back in the day in Warcraft: Orcs and Humans, as the castle home of the rather hard to pronounce Medivh, who’s responsible for going mad and opening a portal to Azeroth for the orcs, among other things.

Blizzard Entertainment is prepping for its next big IP with Overwatch (the open beta arrives next week) but in the meantime, it announced that Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft, its free-to-play collectible card game, has passed 50 million registered players. That’s up from 40 million players in November 2015.

The announcement came in the midst of the release of Whispers of the Old Gods, the new expansion which brings 134 new cards and a bunch of other new additions to the game. Blizzard co-founder and CEO Mike Morhaime noted that, “Whispers of the Old Gods adds an exciting new set of creepy, corrupted cards to Hearthstone. We can’t wait to see how creative players are with the ancient evil of the Old Gods in their hands.”

Hearthstone’s biggest benefit is its microtransactions – picking up card packs and the like bring in quite the revenue. How much was earned so far hasn’t been revealed thus far but with Activision Blizzard’s earnings report for the quarter happening next week, we could learn more.

It seems like it will be a fairly extensive expansion pack, too- it will add 132 all new cards to the game, as well as introduce some brand new gameplay mechanics. To prep the game for the upcoming expansion, Update 3.0 was released for Hearthstone today.

Hearthstone is available right now on PCs running Windows and Mac OSX, in addition to also being available on iOS and Android smartphones and tablets. The game is a World of Warcraft themed collectible card game, and has managed to garner a whole lot of success for Blizzard, keeping their revenues propped up, even as other, former premier properties like World of Warcraft continue to dry up.

You know how we reported recently that World of Warcraft had seen its lowest ever quarter since the game’s launch, but that Blizzard’s revenues had somehow gone up? Well, a lot of that has to do with just how well Blizzard’s other games are performing. And sure, we talked about Diablo III’s sales then, but what is being overlooked here is Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft, the card game that Blizzard launched last year.

According to SuperData, Hearthstone makes a staggering $20 million per month- that makes it not only far more successful than any other card game (such as Heroes of Might and Magic or Pokemon), but it also makes it one of the most successful games on the market period. Hearthstone’s success is owed to not only its vibrant PC base of 8 million players a month, but also the smart devices- more than 9 million players play the game regularly that way.

So, basically, World of Warcraft may be on the way out, but Hearthstone is definitely in.

Blizzard Entertainment held a media briefing today before its official livestream tomorrow and discussed new details for several of its top titles, both currently released and coming soon.

It first talked about StarCraft 2: Legacy of the Void and how it would have a new co-op mode called Allied Commanders that allows players to control heroes like Jim Raynor, Kerrigan and Artanis in order to defeat enemies in a series of missions. Commanders will have their own special abilities and level up throughout a mission. A demonstration of this new mode will be done on August 8th, 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM and August 9th, 1 PM to 2 PM.

Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft will see its next expansion in The Grand Tournament and 11 new cards and a jousting mechanic were revealed to players. The expansion releases later this month.

Heroes of the Storm’s Eternal Conflict event continues with Kharazim, the Monk, joining the Hero roster alongside Rexxar of Warcraft fame and Artanis of StarCraft. A new three-lane battleground was also showcased in the Infernal Shrines wherein players will use a Punisher demon to beat down the opposing team.

Finally, there’s Overwatch which received a new hero in Lúcio, a Brazilian musician with roller skates who can grind on walls and use his music to support his team, and two new maps, namely Numbani and Volskaya Industries. Lúcio will be playable on the show floor along with McCree, Soldier 76 and Zarya who were announced earlier this year.

Blizzard’s free to play, collectible card game is getting even bigger with The Grand Tournament. It will bring a new minion ability with Inspire which can trigger each time you use a hero power. Packing a total of 132 new cards, players will have a chance to pre-purchase a card pack bundle for $49.99. This contains a bundle of 50 packs which nets you another card in return. The Grand Tournament will be Hearthstone’s second major expansion since its launch and will release some time next month.

Other new features include a new festive gameboard and a reward update for the Arena, which will now dole out more than just Goblins vs. Gnomes card packs when The Grand Tournament launches. Instead, It will offer the chance to win Goblins vs. Gnomes card packs, classic card packs and Grand Tournament card packs as rewards.
