Product development manager Dominic Matthews says the studio "loved making" the original.

<img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" src="https://gamingbolt.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/49.-Nariko-Heavenly-Sword.jpg" alt="49.
Even though Ninja Theory is working on Hellblade, releasing on the PlayStation 4 first in 2015 and developed using Unreal Engine 4, there is still a place for Heavenly Sword in the developer’s heart. However, the stars would really need to align in order for there to be a sequel to Noriko’s quest according to product development manager Dominic Matthews.

If Sony were to go up to Ninja Theory tomorrow and ask to work on Heavenly Sword, would Ninja Theory give it a shot? Matthews replied that, “You know, we loved making Heavenly Sword, it was fantastic. I think the main way to know that is how we still look to that as a benchmark for what the team has achieved.

“That said, it would have to be the right time, the right place, the last situation…all I can say is, we love making Heavenly Sword. It’s their IP, and it would be up to them, but we loved making that game, and we’re very proud of it.

Matthews further affirmed that Heavenly Sword 2 would have to be a game that the studio was motivated to make, give its design process. Would you be interested in a sequel to Heavenly Sword? Let us know in the comments.

Sony was developing Heavenly Sword 2 in 2008 but has canned it according to an ex-Sony employee’s CV. He used to work for Sony Cambridge and has released a video which shows plenty of canned Sony games.

Some of them are intriguing. Earlier it was rumoured that the recent Sony reveal would be Heavenly Sword 2 but it ended but being God of War: Ascension.

Heavenly Sword was supposed to be set in hell following the events of the events of the first game, which was revealed by Ninja Theory’s Tameem Antoniades.

Check out the video below which shows the canned games. It shows some old games like LBP which this specific animator worked on, and also a bunch of other games.

According to the Ninja Theory studio boss Tameem Antoniades, Ninja Theory would’ve done Heavenly Sword 2 instead of Enslave if it wasn’t for Sony, which own the Heavenly Sword IP. Ninja Theory wanted to go multiplatform due to the lack of sales from Heavenly Sword 2.

“I don’t know if Sony made any money on Heavenly Sword but we didn’t,” he said.

“There are pros and cons, if you’re exclusive you get more attention but when you’re multi-platform, at this stage in the cycle, there’s more competition. You’ve got to weigh it against each other,”

“But we couldn’t do Heavenly Sword 2 as a multi-platform because it’s owned by Sony, the tech we developed for that game is also owned by Sony.” he added.

“But there’s a different dynamic with a platform holder. I mean, we signed up and we happy to sign up to it because it allowed our studio to grow and we’re really grateful for that, but it feels like as a studio we need to think about the next few years, the next games we release.

“We want them to be multi-platform so we had to come up with a new idea.”

Well, it doesn’t look like Heavenly Sword 2 will ever be developed.

Enslaved is due for release sometime in October of 2010.
