But has literally no idea what it will be like.

Hironobu Sakaguchi, the creator of Final Fantasy who later left Square to start MIstwalker, and work on acclaimed JRPG projects such as Lost Odyssey and The Last Battle, released Terra Battle for smartphones in Japan. When he did, he also promised that once the game hit 2 million downloads, Mistwalker would work on bringing the world of Terra Battle to consoles.

Terra Battle hit 2 million downloads. Unfortunately, it seems the console game hasn’t actually been given any thought yet.

“When we first began planning the Download Starter and setting our goals, I never thought we’d reach two million downloads,” Sakaguchi said to Famitsu (as translated by Gematsu). “Or rather, it was a far away goal. But meeting this feeling, it is expected we keep our promise of ‘starting development on a consumer version,’ but I didn’t think that day would really come. We didn’t actually have anything planned for it, so I’m starting to feel the heat now that it’s happening.”

“We really don’t have any plans right now. I’m in so much trouble now,” he laughed. “Still, however we end up doing it, I want the characters and atmosphere of the game world to be in line with what we’ve done for the smartphone game. I plan on doing a lot of experimenting to see whether we otherwise actually take the game in any new directions. Virtual reality could be an interesting direction to take, as could having some sort of connectivity with next-gen if we could pull that off.”

So, while it seems that he has committed to doing a high end console JRPG, it might be a while before we do end up seeing it. So sure, there is something from him to look forward to. It’s just that no one, not even Sakaguchi himself, quite knows what that is yet.

Mistwalker founder Hironobu Sakaguchi talks about only making stand-alone games now.

Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi is one of the more understated legends in the industry. While he’s responsible for arguably the biggest JRPG franchise in history, he’s had a hard time replicating that success outside of Square Enix. However, in speaking to IGN, Sakaguchi revealed that he was never a fan of sequels in the first place.

“I don’t like sequels. I hate them.” Sounds odd? Not really. “That’s why every single Final Fantasy had a new cast of characters, a brand new story, [and] a different system,” he stated.

Sakaguchi departed from Square Enix shortly after the release of Final Fantasy 9 and from there, numerous sequels within the same game’s universe and spin-offs took shape. While his reasons for leaving have been discussed endlessly, Sakaguchi does have a strong goal with Mistwalker.

“Every single game that we make, we are going to give it our all, and then we finish it, we’ll end it in such a way that there is no to be continued checklist.”

Mistwalker’s next game is Terra Battle for mobiles and tablets. What are your thoughts on Sakaguchi’s views? Let us know in the comments.

Hironobu Sakaguchi will finally reveal what he's been up to all these years.

Remember all those rumours about Final Fantasy creator (and former executive producer for the series) Hironobu Sakaguchi’s next big RPG coming to the Xbox One and being revealed at E3? While those rumours never came to fruition, it seems that Sakaguchi will be revealing about his next project at the Japan Expo on Wednesday, July 2nd.

Apparently the project has been a secret for a long time, and for those who attend, Sakaguchi will also be discussing his career along with signing autographs and shooting photos with fans.

After leaving Square Enix, Sakaguchi went on to found Mistwalker. He created many other RPGs in the interim, including Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey. His last big game was The Last Story, which released for the Wii and received critical acclaim. Will Sakaguchi be able to recreate that magic on a bigger scale for the newest generation? We’ll find out this Wednesday.

Sadly, it seems Phil Spencer was "kidding" about the Sakaguchi JRPG.

Microsoft Games Studios corporate VP Phil Spencer answered a fair number of questions on Twitter regarding the Xbox One. These ranged from why most Xbox One games didn’t run at 1080p resolution and whether Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi’s next game would be announced for the next gen console.

When asked about the JRPG that Sakaguchi was working on for Xbox One – which a marvelous example of a leading question – Spencer said “Tuesday.” He later clarified that he was only joking about the same. Make of that what you will.

Spencer then stated that though Microsoft would be at GDC 2013, there will be more news as E3 2014 approaches. “I’ll be at GDC but we won’t have a big show, most news will be coming nearer to E3.”

Finally, on being asked whether most games running at 900p on the console was due to the lack of time for developers to optimize for 1080p, he said, “NO, I think you’ll find over this generation games will use a variety of rez and framerates.”

More updates will be incoming, but for now it seems that Microsoft hasn’t conceded defeat in the resolution debate.

The father of Final Fantasy and creator of The Last Story for the Wii has revealed that the game was affected negatively by the limited graphical capabilities of the Wii.

It seems a little weird to complain about it now, and it’s also something that’s pretty obvious, however Sakaguchi said that they created a good looking game despite these bottlenecks they had to face.

“It’s unfortunate, but the final issue that always seemed to deny certain ideas was the SD resolution limitation” he revealed to IGN.

“Within those parameters we aimed to create a title with beautiful graphics that can compete with modern day specs. And though the resolution may be SD, I think players will really enjoy the sophisticated world.

“I would be pleased if people would view our efforts to their best by switching their cables to advanced connection cables or by playing it in the best environment possible,” he added.

I’m not really sure what cable he means? If it’s component ones instead of the default composite ones the Wii comes with, then I agree.

Tell us what you think in the comments section below.
