The live streaming service is now available after Sony's Vue collapsed.

For years, Sony has blocked live TV streaming apps or restricted apps that have had some type of live element on PS4. Things like YouTube TV and Sling TV have never been accessible on the PS4, and apps like Hulu had their live elements gutted in favor of PlayStation Vue, Sony’s own attempt at OTT internet television. The beginning of this year saw the service collapse, however, and it looks like Sony may be loosening their grip on that policy a little.

As announced by Hulu, Sony will now allow player to use Hulu + Live TV. That means those who are subscribed to the Live TV part can now finally watch the live television channels on their console. You’ve been able to do that on virtually any other device with the app before now, showing how limiting Sony has been in the past toward this sort of thing.

This will hopefully open the doors to other OTT services, like the aforementioned Sling TV and YouTube TV. Those and other similar apps have been pretty lacking on Sony’s system, but with them walking back on that, hopefully more players can be allowed on the court.

It’s taken almost nine months since its initial launch, but the Switch will finally begin getting media apps from today. The very first one of these will be, surprisingly enough, not Netflix or YouTube- which are two of the most popular media services in the world. Instead, it seems like the first one will be Hulu.

Hulu is admittedly very popular in the United States, where it has made some impressive strides in market share growth- but it is popular only in the United States, because that is the only place it is available. Nonetheless, this bodes well, because it indicates that media apps will be coming to the system after all- hopefully, these include Netflix, YouTube, CrunchyRoll, Spotify, and Twitch, among others, in the future.

The Switch has, until now, not had any media app whatsoever (outside of NicoNico in Japan)- but as the system finally finds its footing, hopefully Nintendo is getting ready to expand its functionality a bit, too.

Hulu Plus has already been made available on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, but now Nintendo is right behind them. Nintendo has not given a solid date on when Hulu Plus will be arriving on the Wii and 3DS but it will be made available “soon” and indefinitely by the end of this year. There will be a small subscription fee, like other platforms at $7.99 per month.

This price is really not all that bad if you have television shows you watch, need to catch up on or want to get into a new series and take advantage of many shows offered by Networks such as ABC, MTV, Comedy Central, FOX, NBC just to name a few. There are TONS of shows as well as movies, but just to name a few hit TV Series, there is Glee, House, Grey’s Anatomy, Lost, Battlestar Galactica, The Hills and many, many more.

Nintendo 3DS owners can expect this to come from a firmware update which couldn’t be easier. In addition to this there will be 3D video recording and updates to the Mii Plaza as well as new games for it.

Hulu is launching its own premium service that will cost $9.99 a month. For those of you who live under a rock and are unfamiliar with Hulu, it is currently a free service that lets you watch your favorite TV shows and some pretty bad movies in HD for free online. This premium service will make Hulu available for other platforms other than your computer such as the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, iPhone and iPad as well as adding full seasons of TV shows (over 120+) in high definition.

The premium service will be coming to the Playstation 3 this July. Xbox 360 users will have to wait until early 2011 to get Hulu Plus on their console, however, it will be fully supported by the new Kinect controller free feature on the new Xbox 360. That’s right soon you will be able to watch TV with out ever touching a remote on the Xbox 360. Finally don’t have to worry about picking up that pesky remote to watch TV, even with voice activated power controls.

Additional info on the service can be found here.

Although it is still just a rumor, Gear Live has told Engadget that Hulu has been spotted in internal Xbox 360 dashboard builds, not only that, they have also said that Microsoft will be showing Hulu as part of their Xbox LIVE experience at E3 2010.

Although it looks legit it still might be just a rumor, and we have to ask how much will it cost, as we hear there’s going to be some sort of fee.
