Prominent leakers suggest follow-ups to the recently-released Indiana Jones and the Great Circle have been greenlit.

Xbox has ended the year strong with the launch of the Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and amidst all the widespread acclaim for the MachineGames-developed first-person action-adventure title, it seems like there might be yet more Indy on the horizon.

That’s as per prominent leaker Daniel Richtman and Windows Central journalist Jez Corden, with the former taking to Twitter and writing, “Looks like we’re getting more Indy games”, and the latter responding with a gif saying, “It’s true.”

Whether that means Microsoft, Bethesda, and MachineGames are moving forward with sequels to Indiana Jones and the Great Circle or if it’s other Indiana Jones projects that have entered production at some other studio is unclear, but in either case, Lucasfilm Games clearly wants to keep investing in the IP, at least in the video gaming space. Earlier this month, Lucasfilm Games vice president and general manager Douglas Reilly also spoke about the possibility of more games based on the IP.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is available on Xbox Series X/S and PC, and launches for PS5 in spring 2025. Read our review of the game through here.

The game's rumoured title is indicated by a host of domains recently bought by Lucasfilm featuring the potential full name.

While the next title by developer MachineGames has been shrouded in quite a bit of mystery—all we know about it is that it’s based on the Indiana Jones franchise—fans think that they might have discovered the game’s official title. Twitter user Kurakasis seems to have uncovered that the game will be called Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.

Kurakasis talks about how they came to this conclusion, which revolves around the fact that Lucasfilms had registered domains with the title earlier this week. These domains include indianajonesandthegreatcircle.com, and indianajonesandthegreatcirclegame.com, among many other registered domains.

Bethesda, Microsoft, or Lucasfilm haven’t made any sort of official announcement regarding the game’s title or release date. Rumours from earlier this week, however, indicate that the game is set for release some time this year. We also know that it will get its first gameplay trailer and details revealed during the upcoming Xbox Developer_Direct showcase event, which is slated for January 18.

Other games set for the showcase event include Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, Avowed, and Ara: History Untold.

MachineGames' Indiana Jones title will be fully unveiled at the upcoming Xbox Developer_Direct, it was recently confirmed.

First announced three years ago now, MachineGames’ Indiana Jones is one of the biggest first party titles Xbox has in the works right now, and soon, the game is going to be fully unveiled. Microsoft has set a new Xbox Developer_Direct for January 18, where the company has confirmed it will be unveiling Indiana Jones, including its first gameplay trailer and new details coming from MachineGames. In addition to that, it seems like a launch date will also be revealed- and it’s allegedly closer than you think.

Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson has claimed that according to sources close to the project, Indiana Jones is set to launch in 2024 itself. Shortly after the game’s announcement in 2021, Bethesda said it was in the “very, very, very early stages of production”, so the expectation for many may have been that the game was still a ways off from launch, but apparently, MachineGames has made faster progress than most would have thought.

If that does turn out to be accurate, it will make 2024 an even more stacked year for Xbox, with several other titles also set to launch this year, with Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, Avowed, Towerborne, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, and Ara: History Untold.

The upcoming Xbox Developer_Direct will also include new updates on the aforementioned Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, Avowed, and Ara: History Untold.

Players will learn more about the setting and how they'll play as the famed adventurer. The first gameplay trailer will also debut.

Microsoft finally announced a date for its next Xbox Developer_Direct, and it’s a little over a week away. Along with first-party titles like Ara: History Untold, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, and Avowed receiving new details and deep dives, it will feature the first gameplay trailer for MachineGames’ Indiana Jones.

However, that’s not all. It will receive over ten minutes of “game and developer insights” overall. Players will learn about the setting and story (an original tale by Bethesda’s Todd Howard, who is an executive producer on the project), how they’ll control Indy, and other details. The official title will also presumably be revealed.

Rumors indicate that the action-adventure title will have first and third-person gameplay, while Todd Howard called it a “unique mash-up” that does many “different things.” Unlike Marvel’s Blade or The Outer Worlds 2, Indiana Jones is officially confirmed to be exclusive to Xbox Series X/S and PC.

Stay tuned for more details on the title when the Xbox Developer_Direct ’24 airs on January 18th at noon PT.

The showcase will also feature Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2, Avowed and Ara: History Untold, but no updates for Activision Blizzard titles.

The next Xbox Developer_Direct is confirmed for January 18th at 12 PM PT/3 PM ET. As indicated by recent rumors, it will feature an “inside look” at several first-party titles for Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Game Pass.

Among some of the reveals include the first gameplay for Indiana Jones from MachineGames, a behind-the-scenes look at the development of Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, a deep dive into Obsidian Entertainment’s Avowed, and gameplay for Oxide Interactive’s Ara: History Untold. Following the Direct, ZeniMax Online Studios will reveal the next chapter, story, and zone for The Elder Scrolls Online at 1 PM PT/4 PM ET.

Unfortunately, there won’t be any updates for Activision Blizzard titles, but Microsoft has teased news from its teams for later in the year. Additionally, while the Direct’s lineup looks solid as it is, there are also rumors of a shadow-dropped title, not unlike Hi-Fi Rush last year. Time will tell, so stay tuned for more details when it airs

"Xbox still being one of the bigger marketplaces for games, we didn't feel like we were going to be overly exclusionary," says Disney's head of gaming, Sean Shoptaw.

Whether or not MachineGames and Bethesda’s Indiana Jones title would be a multiplatform release was a frequently asked question (to say the very least) for months following its launch. Ordinarily, you would take that for granted for a game carrying a major IP’s license, but this is, of course, being developed by a first party Xbox studio. Earlier this year, however, it was confirmed that Indiana Jones will indeed be skipping PlayStation and releasing only for Xbox and PC, and according to Disney – parent company of Lucasfilm and owner of the Indiana Jones IP – that makes “financial and strategic sense” for the game.

Speaking in a recent interview with Axios, when asked about Indiana Jones’ Xbox console exclusivity, Disney’s head of gaming Sean Shoptaw said that with Xbox having one of the largest userbases in the industry, the game is “still going to reach a broad set of folks”.

“Xbox still being one of the bigger marketplaces for games, we didn’t feel like we were going to be overly exclusionary,” he said. “We felt like it’s still going to reach a broad set of folks, and we felt, financially and strategically for the game, that made sense at the time.”

Earlier this year, it emerged in court documents from the Microsoft vs FTC trial that Microsoft had decided to take Indiana Jones exclusive in spite of the game being internally projected to sell over 10 million units on PlayStation. The company feels it will be able to cover up those losses through the Indiana Jones title driving increased Game Pass subscriptions and Xbox console sales.

There’s no word yet on when the game will launch, but executive producer Todd Howard has suggested that it could be formally unveiled sometime in 2024.

Todd Howard of Starfield, The Elder Scrolls, and Fallout fame is serving as an executive producer on the action-adventure title.

Todd Howard is a busy man. He’s wrapped up the bulk of his work on Starfield, but has also already moved on to the next game he’s directing, which is The Elder Scrolls 6. Beyond that, however, he’s also executive producing MachineGames’ Indiana Jones title. And according to Howard, we’ll be hearing more about it sometime next year.

Speaking in a recent interview with Esquire, briefly touching on the Indiana Jones game, though Howard was reluctant to give out too many details, he suggested that the title could be formally unveiled sometime in 2024, saying, “We’ll talk next year.”

Vaguely, Howard also suggested that MachineGames’ take on the Indiana Jones property will be a “unique” one, something he’s also suggested before, and that something the team has been focused on during development is ensuring that the experience feels separate from an Indiana Jones movie.

“I am a giant Indiana Jones fan,” he said. “It can be brought to video games in a unique way. The game is obviously: you’re exploring stuff. It’s about him. So if you’re playing the game, how do you feel that you are indeed playing versus just watching?”

A little over a couple of years ago, the game was said to be in “very, very early production”, though given the fact that it’s now been over two and a half years since its announcement, one would presume that a full reveal sometime in 2024 wouldn’t be completely out of the question.

Previously, it’s been confirmed that MachineGames’ Indiana Jones title is based on an original story written by Todd Howard, while recent leaks have also claimed that it will feature both first and third person gameplay.

Earlier this year, Bethesda confirmed that Indiana Jones will be exclusive to Xbox and PC.

However, Microsoft believed that it could make up for the losses "through upside to Game Pass and increased console sales."

Though Microsoft has maintained since before its acquisition of ZeniMax was even finalized that it would decide the exclusivity of future Bethesda titles on a case-by-case basis, by now it’s become pretty clear that the vast majority of the company’s flagship releases will indeed be skipping PlayStation releases.

For instance, two major upcoming titles in Bethesda Game Studios’ Starfield and MachineGames’ Indiana Jones were both made exclusive to Xbox and PC after Bethesda’s acquisition by Microsoft was finalized- and as many would have expected, it turns out Microsoft has sacrificed significant unit sales for both games in doing so.

That’s as per court documents from the recent Microsoft vs FTC case (via Stephen Totilo on Twitter), which state that during his testimony, Microsoft Gaming CFO Tim Stuart revealed that both Starfield and Indiana Jones were forecasted to sell over 10 million units on PS5.

According to Stuart, Microsoft decided to cancel PS5 versions for both titles nonetheless, believing that it could “offset losses incurred from taking ZeniMax games exclusive through upside to Game Pass and increased console sales.” As per Stuart, Microsoft “needed fewer dollars in the short term to make up for the financial impact of exclusivity of ZeniMax games.”

The court ruled in Microsoft’s favour at the conclusion of the case earlier this week, though the FTC has now filed an appeal and is hoping once again to be granted a temporary injunction against the finalization of the proposed Activision Blizzard acquisition.

Microsoft is currently also in the process of negotiation new terms for the acquisition with the CMA, though those negotiations are still at an early stage, and could still lead to new investigations, the CMA has said.

The Indiana Jones game pitch by Todd Howard made anyone who heard it want to play it immediately, according to an email by Pete Hines.

Documents revealed through the discovery process of the ongoing trial between the US Federal Trade Commission and Microsoft over the latter’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard have revealed that Todd Howard’s pitch for the in-development Indiana Jones title by MachineGames has been impressive.

“I don’t know, Todd might be the biggest Indiana Jones fan on the planet,” reads an internal email by Pete Hines. “I’m not exaggerating even a little. Anyone who has seen the pitch has immediately said ‘oh my god, I have to play that game right now.'”

In the email, Hines is talking to executives like Xbox boss Phil Spencer, head of Xbox Game Studios Matt Booty, and Xbox chief marketing officer Jerret West. The email also confirms that Howard has been pitching the game, trying to get it made for more than ten years. Howard originally pitched the game to LucasArts all the way back in 2009.

The Indiana Jones game, referred to by its development name Project Relic, doesn’t yet have a release date. The game is seeing being Todd Howard serve as its executive producer, whose involvement won’t affect the release of Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6, according to Pete Hines.

A recent report has indicated that the Indiana Jones game will be released on PC and Xbox. While the game was originally going to be a multiplatform release, plans changed after Microsoft acquired Bethesda and ZeniMax.

Bethesda/Machinegames' Indiana Jones is something Todd Howard had been trying to get made for a decade. "Anyone who has seen the pitch has immediately said, 'oh my god, I have to play that game right now" — Pete Hines email from 2021 (which is now evidence in FTC vs Microsoft) pic.twitter.com/MZi6i0MUL1

A new leak has claimed that the MachineGames-developed title will have both first and third person gameplay sections.

It was announced over a couple of years ago that Wolfenstein developer MachineGames had started development on an Indiana Jones game, with Todd Howard of The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, and Starfield fame serving as executive producer on the project, but with the game having been in the very early stages of production at the time, details on what it will actually take shape as have been scant, if that.

For instance, will it be a first person game, which is what you’d expect from MachineGames, a studio that has been almost exclusively known for first person shooters in the past? Or will it be third person, which is what you’d expect from what will presumably an Uncharted-style action-adventure game and will star a recognizable cross-media character?

Apparently, it’ll be both. That’s according to XboxEra co-founder Nick Baker, who recently said on the XboxEra Podcast that based on what he’s been told, the Indiana Jones title will be a combination of first and third person, with some sections of the game featuring first person gameplay, and some featuring third person gameplay.

Baker says he hasn’t been given the finer details on exactly how this will function, so it remains unknown whether this means the perspective switching will be scripted, or if it will happen based on specific gameplay activities. However, he does say that players won’t have the option to switch from one to the other on their own.

Baker also states that, given the fact that the game is still presumably in the relatively early stages of development, this may not necessarily be set in stone- though a combination of first and third person gameplay does seem to be the plan right now.

Recently, it was confirmed that the Indiana Jones game will be exclusive to Xbox and PC, and launch day one for Game Pass.
