Infinite Crisis is an upcoming Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (commonly abbreviated to MOBA) that is based on the DC Multiverse which appears in their popular Comic Books.

The game is currently in development at Turbine and is in its open beta testing stages. Turbine is perhaps best known as being the developers who previously developed The Lord of the Rings Online.

The game was published by Turbine’s parent company Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment and the title is currently exclusive to Microsoft Windows supported PC’s. Infinite Crisis is a free to play game that makes use of in-game micro transactions via an in game store.

At the time of writing Infinite Crisis has no definitive launch date outside of a vague 2015 release window. The game will not be receiving a retail release and will be available instead exclusively via digital download on the official Infinite Crisis Website.

Development

Infinite Crisis is the very first game that Turbine has developed since they were purchased by Warner Brothers in 2010. This game also marks a change in development for Turbine as Infinite Crisis is the first game that the studio has developed that isn’t an MMORPG.

However, like The Lord of the Rings before it, Infinite Crisis will be a free to play title that’s accessible to all. The microtransactions in-game has seen claims of a pay-to-win business model being leveled at the game.

Infinite Crisis’ development has been ongoing presumably since sometime between 2010 and 2013. On May 8th of 2013 the game entered its closed beta testing stages before finally entering into its open beta testing stages in March 14th of 2014.

Given that the game receives somewhat regular updates from the publisher and developer, they have announced plans to introduce a number of new heroes and villains from throughout the DC multiverse continuity of comic books.

When the game finally leaves its open beta testing stages and is released as a full product, the game will retain its free to play business model but it will also include more game modes, playable characters and more maps and stages.

Story

Infinite Crisis has a story that covers a threat to the DC Multiverse in its entirety.

Now standing upon the cusp of destruction, the combat prowess of the Multiverse’s numerous Heroes and Villains is all that can save it from certain destruction.

Gameplay

Given that Infinite Crisis falls within the MOBA category, it does of course have a number of elements that are going to be inherently similar to other, more popular, MOBA titles such as League of Legends and Defence of the Ancients 2 (Dota 2).

When players enter the battle arena they will be taking control of their chosen Champion, so long as that character is available to them, as they move forward into the game world and combat the enemy team.

Players can progress further and level up to become stronger by defeating the enemy team’s mobs or can instead gain much more experience to help speed them along the way by destroying enemy champions in combat and destroying their turrets.

Players can progress down various “lanes” when playing in the classic game mode. These three lanes are commonly referred to as Top, Mid (middle) and Bottom. The middle lane is of course still the shortest path to the enemy base but is enveloped on either side by urban jungle, which is where most ambush attacks happen

The game features a few game modes that are all played in brief sessions of 20 to 40 minutes depending on match settings and player skills and abilities. Thus far, the game is split into the following maps:

Crime Alley – This is a private map for 1 Vs AI gameplay that allows players at a new to intermediate level where they can get used to playing with their chosen champion. This map however only features one lane which keeps the practice somewhat focused and doesn’t allow for team based tactics experimentation.

Gotham Divided – This is your basic 5 Vs 5 three lane map that serves as Infinite Crises’ main and most popular map as this is perhaps its most MOBA-esque map.

Gotham Heights – This map differs a little from Gotham Divided. It retains the 5 Vs 5 combat but replaces the typical lane and destroy gameplay with that of a capture and hold ground mechanic. The map is circular in design and has 5 control points scattered across it. Standing on these points will begin the capture process which can be hurried along by having more team members standing on the point. The downside to this of course is that other spots are left vulnerable whilst your team gathers in one place.

Coast City – Coast City too retains the 5 Vs 5 gameplay of previous modes but restricts the game to two lanes with a large Urban Jungle portion that houses elite drones and a doomsday device. Players must outmaneuver the enemy team in an attempt to destroy their bases power core. The doomsday device activates a guardian that will attack the closest champion, regardless of team, who will drop a ranged weapon that can be used as an emp when destroyed.

Characters

A new challenger has appeared!

Blue Beetle is the latest character to join Warner Bros.’ Infinite Crisis, their DC universe themed MOBA by Turbine Games. He will go live on April 30, and players will be able to take advantage of the unique strengths and capabilities the character has to offer, including his super assassin skills, and his full body armor.

What you see above is the character profile video Warner Bros. and Turbine have prepared for the character, in context of the Infinite Crisis storyline and universe. He sounds like he would be an interesting character to use- it is also heartening to see the developers tap into some of the lesser known DC properties, instead of relying on reskins of the more popular characters.

Infinite Crisis is currently still in beta, with a slated launch date for some time later this year. The game looks pretty damn awesome, and should be a good addition to the MOBA genre, which is currently dominated by Riot’s League of Legends, and Valve’s DOTA 2.

The Phantom King debuts in Turbine's free to play MOBA.

The once noble hero, now horrific Phantom King hybrid Nightmare Superman is now available for play in Turbine’s free to play massive online battle arena title Infinite Crisis. Check out the trailer above to learn more about his abilities.

Nightmare Superman is essentially the Kryptonian hero possessed by the energies of the Phantom Zone, which served to destroy any sanity he may have had left. Metropolis was in a bad way afterwards as well, and now Nightmare Superman just roams the landscape as the new Phantom King.

He has a few awesome abilities at his disposal though: Phantom Collector summons a phantom to deal power damage and steal power armour while Phantom Possession allows Nightmare Superman to possess a Champion that slays him, eventually coming back to life with some health when said Champion is down.

What do you think of Nightmare Superman and how are you finding Infinite Crisis thus far? Let us know in the comments.

Infinite Crisis, the DC Comics themed MOBA that stars DC superstars such as Batman, Superman, Wonderwoman, Aquaman, Green Lantern, The Joker, and more, has now entered open beta; with this open beta phase, players can now download the game and get access to all of it as it stands right now.

Specifically, in the open beta, players will have access to three different maps including the recently announced “Gotham Divided,” a tri-lane map where two universes collide and players can battle across Gotham City and its Multiverse variant, Gotham by Gaslight.

Infinite Crisis entered a close beta phase last year, and gained a cult following, especially as more and more popular characters were added to it with time- this open beta phase should ensure an even wider popularity for Warner Bros. and Turbine’s free to play MOBA effort, although it remains to be seen how well it goes against genre heavyweights League of Legends and DOTA 2.

Infinite Crisis, Warner Bros.’ MOBA based on DC comic book characters, will finally be entering open beta on Friday, March 14. To celebrate, Warner Bros. are releasing three never before seen heroes.

Green Arrow, Aquaman, and Mecha-Superman are all joining the fight; while Aquaman might make it seem like they are now plumbing the depths of the DC pantheon, because lolAquaman, Mecha-Superman is great, and Greenn Arrow, especially after his newfound popularity thanks to the hit TV show Arrow, is sure to be a popular choice.

In the upcoming open beta, players will be able to test their skills on Infinite Crisis’ exciting new tri-lane map, “Gotham Divided,” where two universes collide and players can battle across Gotham City and its Multiverse variant Gotham by Gaslight.

It will be interesting to see how much of an impact Infinite Crisis can make in a genre which is dominated not by one, but by two unassailable heavyweight behemoths- Riot Games’ League of Legends, and Valve’s DOTA 2.

Telepathic Poison Ivy arrives.

A video was uploaded which showcases the upcoming Infinite Crisis character of Atomic Poison Ivy. Infinite Crisis is a soon-to-be released free-to-play MOBA from developers, Turbine. It is based on the DC universe and features several versions of favorite DC characters. Atomic Poison Ivy is essentially regular Poison Ivy with the added ability of telepathy, which she gained from being too close to nuclear fallout.

In this video we get to see Atomic Poison Ivy in actual in-game combat, where she utilizes roots and thorns to tank her way through hordes of enemies. After some generic combat, the video gives us a look at some of Poison Ivy’s unique skills, like her passive skill, Toxic Growth which grants her a shield if she goes long enough without taking damage.

Another skill, Poisoned Earth, deals area of effect power damage and can link up with Toxic Growth to do extra damage to enemies that have come into contact with the shield.

From the looks of things, playing as Atomic Poison Ivy (and every other character we’ve seen thus far) looks to be a fun and dynamic gaming experience.

Turbine and Warner Brothers Interactive have released a new Infinite Crisis gameplay video which showcases the newest entrant into the game’s roster: Harleen Quinzel.

If you are aware of the Batman franchise then we are sure you are also aware of the fact that Harley Quinn is a former therapist fascinated by psychosis. Her love for madness drove her mad with love for the Joker. She will be added to the roster on November 18th.

Infinite Crisis is an upcoming multiplayer online battle arena and is under development at Turbine. Co-incidentally, this will be Turbine’s first ever game that will not be a massively multiplayer online role-playing game. It will also be their first independent title ever since they were purchased by Warner Brothers Interactive in 2010. The game will be released on the PC later this year.

An all new look at Infinite Crisis.

Warner Brothers have released the latest behind the scenes trailer for their upcoming free to play online DC Comics based battle arena game, Infinite Crisis.

Infinite Crisis will feature all of our favorite DC Universe superheroes facing off against one another in an all out combat glory. In the video, we hear from the creative director of the game about how, in the Infinite Crisis Universe, the world will always be aware of and reacting to the existence of these superheroes. The environments will be fully destructible; in an attempt to make things as realistic as possible. It makes sense, really. If they punch cars, they will go flying.

With fully destructible environments comes another level of gameplay. The map will sometimes change due to a catastrophic event, blocking off your path to a certain goal and forcing you to find an alternative route.

What do you think about the latest video? Let us know in the comments section below.
