Last year brought us a new console generation with the launch of the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. It’s a new and exciting time with lots of new technologies for developers to take advantage of, and we’re sure to be seeing lots of innovations and new game designs as time goes on. First party developers will be on those frontlines, and one of them is seeing the new systems as a big shift to how they do things.

Speaking to GamesRadar, Insomniac’s Marcus Smith, creative director of the upcoming Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, spoke about how Sony’s new system has led to a big shift in how they are looking at development with the platformer. The game was recently confirmed to be a PS5 exclusive, not cross-gen, and Smith said that the SSD, new 3D audio, and the leap in visuals has really jettisoned the studio forward.

“Insomniac is so out of control that several of our designers are wanted across several star clusters,” Smith said. “It has been an incredibly rewarding process of learning to shed outdated ‘best practice’ that has been in place due to constraints of loading times. While so often new hardware feels like an upgrade to visuals alone, working on the PS5 has been a paradigm shift in the way we do all things, from the near-instant level loading to 3D audio design, and yes, an enormous leap in visuals. It’s exciting to think that we’re still so early in the lifecycle and everyone is just scratching the surface of what can be done. So excited to know it’s only going to get crazier!”

Rift Apart was an early showcase title for how the new SSD can change design with its impressive use of portals jumping between various worlds. The game will be out sometime in 2021, and you can see some gameplay footage through here.

There were a lot of games to chose from with the launch of the PS5 this month, but probably the most mainstream appealing one was Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. For one, obviously, it’s Spider-Man, but it also has one of the slickest presentations of the character yet. Just some of the suits you can get alone are worth the price of admission. By and large, the game was also well-received, and Sony has the receipts on that.

The company released an accolades trailer to kind of show off the positive reviews that Miles Morales managed to receive. It’s also set to some nice music that also makes it double as a video about how it’s Miles’ time to shine, similar to the story of the game being about the rookie superhero having to step up on a solo adventure. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is available now on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.

It was quite a time for a Spider-Man fan who happened to get a PS5 over the last two weeks. Not only did we get Miles Morales, we also got a full remaster of the 2018 title, which was just as good as the original game. But it wasn’t without some issues technically (and no, I’m not talking about the new Peter Parker face)- but Insomniac seems to have fixed many of those issues.

An issue has somewhat plagued the game since its initial launch where trying to resume the game from the PS5’s rest mode was causing issues that included hard crashes. The newest update, 1.001, is now live and addresses that. It’s the same update that allows you to transfer your PS4 save of the original game, too. Alongside all that is also some fixes to animations, accessibility and ray tracing. You can see the full patch notes below or via the official support site through here.

Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered is available now on PlayStation 5 via purchasing the Ultimate Edition of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. As of now, there’s no announced way to get the game standalone. The original title is available on PS4.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales launched earlier this month alongside the PS5, and it was a solid follow up to the 2018 take on the iconic webslinger. It takes place in New York, as most Spider-Man related media does, but those with a keen eye may have noticed that one big building was missing. No, I’m not talking about the Baxter Building, I’m talking about the Chrysler Building. However, it was no mistake, it was all due to rights issues.  

In a Game Informer interview with James Stevenson, the Community Director for Insomniac Games, he confirmed that the building was not included due to copyright problems. There was a change in ownership in 2019, which voided the previous agreement they had to portray the build. He didn’t get into specifics, but did say there were negotiations between them and the current owners, but it was not to be. 

“When creating our representation of the city we wanted to include as many landmarks as we could to add to the sense of immersion. Sometimes negotiations to use those locations didn’t work out, which was the case with the Chrysler Building in Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.”

It may seem strange, but it’s actually not that uncommon. The iconic Hollywood Sign, for instance, has similar issues with being portrayed in media. Well, either way, with or without the Chrysler, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is available now on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.

For the launch of the PS5 there’s a lot to pick and chose from, but probably the biggest is Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. The attention has been on that game, as it should be since Miles is the best Spider-Man (I said it, send tweets). However, we can’t forget the original 2018 title is getting quite the remaster to come alongside those who get the Ultimate Edition of Miles Morales. Today, we got a look at two new suits ol’ Pete can swing around in.

Miles has had his share of slick alternate suits shown off, but the new two for Parker aren’t too shabby. They are the Armored Advanced Suit and the Arachnid Rider, which you can see below. The armored suit looks very much in line with the game’s style with Rider giving a more anime-like edge to things.

Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered will be available at the PS5 launch on November 12th for those who buy Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition. The original title is now available for PS4, and these suits will apparently also come to that version at some point.

In a week’s time we will once again be able to swing across the skies with one of the most popular superhero of all time, Spider-Man. This time around it won’t be Peter Parker, but a newer hero under the mask, Miles Morales. The game promises lots of action, alternate skins to wear and a lot of very neat optimizations for Sony’s upcoming PS5. Now we got a TV commercial that implores you to be yourself.

The spot is very brief one, only 30 seconds. It shows Miles getting knocked down for a bit before rising back up to take on the baddies. No gameplay, all CG, and not really sure what the Be Yourself thing is about, but hey, it’s good advice if you’re not a trash bag of a person.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Mile Morales will launch on November 12th for both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, but beware, the game has been confirmed to have gone out early and spoilers are corrupting the net as we speak.

Next week will see the launch of Sony’s PS5, and alongside it is one of the bigger launch titles in recent memory, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. While the game is going to be cross-gen, it will be optimized in multiple different ways for the PS5. Unfortunately, you may have to also be dodging spoilers yourself like the titular webslinger.

Insomniac Games’ James Stevenson, who is the Community Director, took to Twitter to warn people that spoilers were out there. As is sometime the case, some people do get the game early, review copies are out and about, and some regions are also quite loose with how they allow copies to be sold. We have seen some of the story, but it largely remains unrevealed, and there are probably some other unlocked suits besides the ones we’ve seen. If you want to avoid all that, be careful.

From the beginning of the upcoming next generation console marketing cycles, probably the biggest new feature that was hyped up was the SSDs the new systems would have. Sony, especially, seemed to design their PS5 around SSD capabilities. We’ve seen some examples of just how incredibly fast loading can be on the system, and now we have another one from the upcoming Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

A leaked video, which has since been taken down, seems to show someone who is in possession of a PS5 and has a copy of Miles Morales. He boots up the game, which only takes about 2 seconds to get to the main menu and then from there gets into the game in roughly 7 seconds. While it’s not explicitly made clear this is a cold boot, considering how it goes directly into the main menu, it most likely is. But even if this is coming from suspend it’s still incredibly fast. Loading was one of the many ways in which the PS5 version of Miles Morales was said to be optimized.

This holiday season will see Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales launch alongside the PS5. It’s a solo adventure all about Miles as he struggles as a rookie hero. While the game is cross-gen, the developers at Insomniac Games are looking to utilize the power of the PS5 with the game.

Via Game Informer, there were five ways outlined that the game will be optimized for the next gen console. First will be a lack of loading with instant or near-instant load times (though the beloved subway transitions can be turned on if you wish). They also talk about the improved graphics, something touched upon in the past when the game’s performance options were detailed.

They also point to how the performances will be better from the motion capture and voice actors due to access to new technology like 4D scans for more complex rigging, which will also go into the next point that the action is able to be more explosive and dynamic. And finally, the PS5’s DualSense will help bring more immersion with its haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, which has been touched on in the past. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales will release on November 12th at the PS5’s launch. The game will also come to the PlayStation 4 on the same day.

With Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales coming next month, Game Informer has quite a lot of new details and footage as part of its coverage. We’ve seen the game’s first boss fight but how about seeing Peter Parker and Miles Morales just swinging around? There’s some of that as well – check it out below.

Though it’s short, the initial scene provides a look at Miles’s unique movement (including the nifty reverse dive). It definitely portrays him as still fairly new at the Spider-Man gig, even though it doesn’t affect gameplay. Eventually, Miles rendezvouses with Peter to escort a major villain to the Raft.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is out on November 10th for PS4 and PS5 with cross-gen saves and a free upgrade for those who buy the current-gen version. Purchasing the Ultimate Edition for $70 also provides Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered which features improved visuals, 60 FPS performance mode and ray-tracing.
