As per Xbox boss Phil Spencer, this is "more than we've ever had in the show."

If you were worried about Microsoft not bringing their first party titles to E3 2019, don’t be. Xbox boss Phil Spencer revealed on Twitter that there will be 14 games developed by Xbox Game Studios at the show. As per Spencer, these are more first party titles “than we’ve ever had in the show”.

While it’s a given that games like Halo Infinite, Gears 5, and Ori and the Will of the Wisps will appear, the number is significant, given the companies that Microsoft acquired last year. These include Ninja Theory, Obsidian Entertainment, Playground Games, inXile, and Compulsion Games. What titles these studios could potentially showcase has us most excited.

Microsoft’s E3 2019 presser will take place on June 9th at 1 PM PDT and will last for two hours. It’s worth noting that a number of third party titles like CD Projekt RED’s Cyberpunk 2077 could appear, just like last year. With Sony skipping E3 this year, the stage is set for Microsoft to make an impact. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.

Just finishing our final E3 rehearsal here with the team in Redmond. Feel really good about the briefing. Lots to show.
The fan favourite RPG has been confirmed for Nintendo's hybrid system.

Wasteland 2 was actually teased for the Switch a while back, but now, it has been officially announced for Nintendo’s platform with a new announcement trailer that you can see for yourself below. Wasteland 2 is a sequel to the original Wasteland, which launched all the way back in the 1980s, and served as the inspiration for Fallout, and was inXile’s attempt to make a modern CRPG without any concessions made to streamlining.

It turned out to be a good effort, especially after the “director’s cut” (which went on to launch on PS4 and Xbox One to boot). Now, it will also be coming to the Switch. Which is excellent news- the prospect of playing a round based CRPG like this on the go sounds incredible.

I have to admit that between Wasteland 2, Pillars of Eternity 2, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Ys 8, Shining Resonance: Refrain, as well as the upcoming Dark Souls Remastered, The World Ends With You, Octopath Traveler, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu/Eevee, and Shin Megami Tensei V, the Switch is starting to rapidly become a hub for RPGs- and I love it.

Brian Fargo 'teases' the Switch version.

Wasteland 2, inXile and Brian Fargo’s excellent sequel to the classic cRPG that would go on to inspire Fallout, is already available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One- but now, it will also be coming to the Nintendo Switch. Posting on Twitter, Brian Fargo shared a picture of the game running on the Nintendo Switch, with the caption ‘how about a little tease.’

Given that Wasteland 2 is a fantastic and expansive round based cRPG, it would be uniquely suited to the Switch, and it would benefit greatly from its portability. Concerns about how it might run abound, however- the game runs on Unity, which as an engine is not the most optimized in the world, and the game already chugs on PS4 and Xbox One. We can only hope that it is optimized for the hybrid system before it is released on it.

For now, Wasteland 2 is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. More details about the Nintendo Switch version will presumably follow.

'VR has the passion,' Fargo says.

We have been hearing that VR will be the next big step for gaming for a while now- but until recently, when the VR market finally started showing some signs of life, we haven’t seen anything tangible to warrant that kind of optimism or confidence. The market isn’t aware or interested, software support does not seem to be there, and actual applications of the tech seem to be hard to envision for now.

However, creator Brian Fargo, best known for games like Fallout and Wasteland, thinks that VR is the real deal- and that unlike something like Kinect, it’s here to stay.

“When you play virtual reality games – and I play them all practically – it’s some of the most fun I’ve had in years,” he said. “So I’m taking my lessons from, ‘OK, where there’s passion, there’s going to be an industry.’ On the converse, you think about something like the Kinect, for example, which saw all this hype behind it, but it felt forced. You sort of play it and you’re grimacing through it and you’re trying to think, ‘How could this apply to real games more than the casual rafting or playing with pets?’ I never quite saw that. In that regard, we look at that and say, we shouldn’t have been surprised it didn’t work because there wasn’t the kind of passion you’d like to see with a new piece of hardware and new medium. That’s what VR has.”

He may be right- and I am not saying VR won’t be big in the future. I am just saying that from where we stand at the moment, VR has done very little to warrant the kind of hype that it has.

[GamesIndustry]

Plus, the first (prototype) screenshots inside.

Looks like Wasteland 2 was a pretty successful revival of the classic RPG series, and a successful venture for developer inXile. inXile today announced Wasteland 3, the next entry in the original post apocalyptic nuclear wasteland RPG series, due to hit PC, Mac, and Linux alongside – and this here is the kicker – PS4 and Xbox One, also making this the first game in the franchise that hits consoles at the same time as it hits PC.

The new game will be the first game in the franchise that includes co-op, allowing up to two players to play through the entire campaign together. It will also feature a revamped action system, more environmental hazards, the addition of vehicles to the game, and the return of ranger bases. All in all, it looks to be a mix of the familiar with some genuinely new features- just the kind of sequel we need.

Wasteland 3 will be crowdfunded on Fig, where inXile are attempting to raise $2.75 million. No release date has been shared for the game yet. You can check out the first set of prototype screenshots below.

The console release of last year’s PC exclusive classic RPG revival Wasteland 2 is now available on the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4. The sequel to the original post apocalyptic RPG on PC, the console release features multiple console specific enhancements and improvements to ensure that the game can be adapted to a console controller.

The original Wasteland was a special game- it led to over two decades of cult following (the original Fallout game was designed as a spiritual sequel to the first Wasteland game, back when its rights and IP ownership were still in limbo). Wasteland 2 is not as special, but for fans of the genre on PC, it still remains a must play.

The game costs just $40, and is available on PS4 and Xbox One, in addition to coming to PC (of course) as well. Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more coverage and information, and check out the launch trailer below.

Strength in numbers.

Wasteland 2: Director’s Cut, the enhanced re-release of the sequel to the spiritual precursor to the Fallout games, which launched exclusively on PC last year, has just received a brand new developer’s diary. The new video shows off some of the squad strategies that you can employ in this game, and how they work with a controller based interface. The Ranger class gets a lot of screentime in this video, to demonstrate how its gear and traits can be tweaked to gain an advantage of numbers.

Wasteland 2: Director’s Cut will be releasing on the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One; the original Wasteland released more than 20 years ago, and is widely regarded as one of the greatest cRPGs of all time. Wasteland 2 was one of the first Kickstarter based crowdfunding successes in the video game industry.

Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more coverage and information. Also check out the video for yourself, and tell us what you think in the comments:

With a release of last year’s critically acclaimed PC exclusive hit revival, Wasteland 2, impending for consoles, publisher Deep Silver and developer inXile have been trying to get console gamers on board with the idea of a classic, straight up cRPG.
"Wasteland 2 is in the final stages of development."

After adding support for Mac OS in late February, inXile have not delivered on their promise during their Kickstarter campaign to release Wasteland 2 on all three major computer platforms. They’ve released a major update for the game which also adds support for Linux to the early access stage that the game is currently in.

The patch now supports Titans, revamped vendor screen and many optimization fixes. If you want to take a look at the full list of upgrades for the patch, by the way, here’re the patch notes. There’s about 400 changes to the game, including a new vendor screen and the addition of another major area to the game’s map.

“With these major systems implemented, Wasteland 2 is in the final stages of development,” said inXile. The devs also said that the game’s early access now represents about 40 per cent of what the final version of the game will be.

A final release date for Wasteland 2 has not yet been set. Stay tuned for more updates.
