Sony’s Jack Buser didn’t waste time in belittling their competitors’ conferences at E3 this year, and said that their main objective at this year’s E3 was to showcase content for gamers and only gamers. But not for Vita owners, though, they are not gamers obviously.

“I think we’ve had a fantastic E3,” Buser said in an interview with Venturebeat. He is currently the head of digital platforms at SCEA. “I’ve watched all of our competitors very closely. And I think we did a very good job of drawing a solid line in the sand here at E3, and standing up with our back straight as PlayStation and saying, we’re for gamers.”

He revealed that the feedback for their conference was incredibly positive, and it really drove the point home that PlaySation was all about games. When you actually count the amount of games Microsoft showed, it was actually slightly more than Sony, so I’m not really sure how Buser came to this conclusion.

“The reaction to the press conference has been just amazingly positive. While some of our competitors, seemingly, are losing the plot, forgetting what built this industry.”

He also praised the games Sony showed at their conference and mentioned that the company had strong ties with the third-parties.

“We showed amazing partnerships with our third parties. We showed incredible titles from our first parties,” he said.

“Last of Us, you saw that? Beyond: Two Souls. You see these titles and they represent some of the…. I’m biased, but these are the best games I’ve ever seen, and they’re exclusive to our platform. These are the types of games that gamers want, and they’re pushing what a console game can be to the next level.”

Sometimes reading things like these makes my head hurt, but I guess it’s the nature of their job.

Jack Buser, who works at Sony Computer Entertainment, revealed how much Sony spends on their first-party speaking to IndustryGamers at CES this year.

“We have a 15 year heritage of investing very, very heavily in the PlayStation platform. We have actually invested more in our first-party studios than Nintendo and Microsoft combined,” he bragged.

“We have a tremendous catalog of game titles that are second to none out there, and now with PlayStation Suite and PlayStation Network the ability to deliver those experiences across so many devices and even potentially across third-party devices is an incredible competitive advantage.”

He also had a lot to say about the their third-party relationships, although, he did mock Apple as well.

“The PlayStation philosophy has always been about our third-party partners and our ability as a games industry to raise all boats together as partners. We’re not like some other game platforms that say ‘Hey! Put your game out here on the App Store and maybe you’ll be one of these 10 featured apps if we feel like it right now, and then the rest of you guys can all go out of business.

“Or some other platform owners who are saying, ‘Look, we’re gonna make all the great games and if you guys can maybe make a great game on our platform, good luck but we’re not going to help you much.’ Or some other guys who say ‘Hey, we hand-picked you and we’re gonna shove a bunch of money in your pocket and the rest of you guys can all dial the 800 number and try to dial through to the front desk.

“We’re all about our partners, our publishing partners, we always have been. If you talk to any game publisher out there, and you mention the word PlayStation, they are going to be very, very loyal to our brand.”

Of course, he is a Sony employee, so he is going to say all these things. But Sony’s output this gen for the PS3 has been impressive to say the least.
