NBA 2K13 Wii U Trailer: Get Your Biometrics Here

NBA 2K13, developed by the kind folks at 2K Sports, finally has it’s launch trailer as it heads to the Wii U with a hefty amount of fan-fare. After all, the game itself is a pretty evolution on the original, with 4000 animations and improved ball control. That’s not included MyCAREER mode which brings forth detailed analysis and stat-tracking.

But like all Wii U adaptations, this one has it’s share of gimmicks. Gimmicks would probably be the wrong word, but it is what it is. How else does one explain the Gatorade Biometrics Scanner with a straight face?

Besides using the Wii U Gamepad to make substitutions and plays on the fly, you can also use the Gamepad as an AR reader to see the various states of exhaustion of the players. It can also be used to detect various hot spots, where the activity of the court is highest, and plan accordingly. It looks weirder than it sounds. Check it out above.

The 2K Sports team talk about the different shoes within NBA 2K13 in their latest developer insight. Yes, shoes. The “sole” of the sport. But hey, Jay-Z ya’ll. Or something.

Much as we protest the pointlessness, sports games, especially the yearly ones, are not only judged by new features they implement but by the realism they instil in the experience. This means, for better or worse, paying extensive attention to brands and player apparel like jerseys and shoes. At times it means extensive attention to the same. Thankfully, there are enough gameplay additions here as well.

Hip-hop score? Check. Emphasis on one sole victor? Check. The will to succeed and beat all odds? Check. If this isn’t executive produced by Jay-Z, nothing is, but then it is NBA 2K13, the latest in 2K Sports’ premier series.

Featuring 30 teams, over 4000 new animations and a wealth of gameplay changes, including improved ball control and AI, NBA 2K13 promises to be 2K Sports most comprehensive and accomplished B-baller to date. It doesn’t hurt that Jay-Z’s behind the soundtrack of the game either.

You may wonder why a 2K Sports title is executively produced by Jay-Z. Perish the thought! For this new developer insight – part 1 of the series – talks about NBA 2K13’s changes and how this is, as the team puts it, “the best one we’ve put out thus far.”

For those who want the Cliff’s Notes, defense if the name of the game now. No more awkward motions and animations this time, and you now use both sticks to for executing complex moves and ball control.

Jay Z becomes executive producer on NBA 2K13

Jay Z today announced he is the Executive Producer on 2K Sports’ forthcoming basketball title NBA 2K13.

Announcing the news on his own website, it’s unknown precisely what Jay Z will be bringing to 2K Sports’ flagship title, other than speculation that his music will feature in some capacity. Executive Producer is often a title that’s more to do with a name than anything else, but for all we know Mr Z might be a dab hand at Basic.

Jay Z is already well versed in basketball, being part-owner of the Brooklyn Nets and all-round media enthusiast.

NBA 2K13 comes to North American on 2nd October for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, PSP, PC and Wii U.
