The game that brought us YPR is also receiving the HD treatment.

At first it seemed to be a rumour but a recent scan from Jump Magazine confirms it. Along with the upcoming Final Fantasy X HD releasing on PlayStation Vita, Square Enix will also be releasing Final Fantasy X-2 HD separately. The two games will be collected together for release on the PlayStation 3.

On one hand, it’s quite the deal. If a case couldn’t be made earlier for shipping FFX HD alone for the PS3, one could certainly be made now with the addition of FFX-2 HD. On the other hand, the latter isn’t exactly the most revered game in the franchise. Taking a more light-hearted and raunchy approach, FFX-2 would be the first real sequel that Square Enix would produce for its Final Fantasy line.

Several years later and the trend sadly continues with Final Fantasy XIII. Regardless, Final Fantasy X and X-2 HD, for PS Vita and PS3, are expected to launch sometime this year.

Plus new information on Lightning's Overclock ability.

Keeping up its practice for bestowing odd names onto environments, Square Enix has revealed, via Jump Magazine, a new area in the upcoming Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. Called “The Dead Dune”, the area is just that – a large desert with clay brick houses and palm trees. Of course the word ‘dead’ could imply that this is some kind of zombie infested region.

It could but we won’t hold Square Enix accountable for such creativity.

Speaking of monsters though, it’s also been revealed that Lightning will have a new power to help her fend off enemies. Since she’ll be fighting alone (sans annoying cast), the new Overclock ability will help even the odds. Enemies are frozen whenever it’s activated and this consumes GP, something which is tied to magic in the FFXIII universe.

We would assume it has to do with the Countdown Clock. After all, wouldn’t it make sense to give yourself an advantage but think twice since it could reduce the time you have to save the world?

We’ll find out when Lightning Returns: FFXIII releases this year for Xbox 360 and PS3.
