The showcase will take place at 4:30 PM PT on June 10th.

Among the many pressers taking place at E3 2019, the Kinda Funny Games Showcase stands out. Hosted by Kinda Funny’s Greg Miller, the presentation will focus on indie games- and there’s no short supply of them. According to Miller on Twitter, there will be over 60 indie titles at the showcase.

This is pretty much in line with last year’s Kinda Funny Games Showcase, which showcased The Messenger’s new content, Desert Child, Ape Out, and so on. We even received an announcement about Sega’s Western release for Judgment (which isn’t exactly an indie game, but still). With all the triple-A announcements, the showcase might be a nice break between the action.

The Kinda Funny Games Showcase will take place on June 10th at 4:30 PM PT. E3 2019 will start on June 11th, but several major publishers will have events and pressers before that. Electronic Arts is up first with its EA Play event, premiering gameplay footage for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Microsoft will be next up on June 9th at 1 PM PT with a two hour show that might feature reveals for titles like the rumoured Fable 4.

Each year, the Electronic Entertainment Expo sees its fair share of showcases and pressers. The Kinda Funny Games Showcase, which first debuted last year in December, will be joining the roster. It’s confirmed to take place on June 10th at 4:30 PM PT/7:30 PM ET and can be viewed live on YouTube.

Last year saw a fair number of titles showcased, including DLC for The Messenger, Lapis x Labyrinth being localized for the Nintendo Switch, and a release window for Sega’s Judgment. We even got to see the debut of Conan Unconquered, which releases later this month. Indie titles are a given, and we can’t wait to see what this event holds.

The usual suspects will otherwise be attending this year’s expo. Microsoft, Ubisoft, Square Enix, and Bethesda are all confirmed to appear. Sony won’t have a press conference, and neither will EA, but the latter will still host its EA Play event. Nintendo has also confirmed a Nintendo Direct presentation too, along with tournaments for Splatoon 2 and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Creator Tommy Refenes says the end result "will mean better games for people".

Team Meat’s Super Meat Boy Forever re-emerged during the Kinda Funny Games Showcase and has a release date… sort of. It actually has a release month of April 2019. There’s a nifty trailer to check out, which showcases all kinds of gameplay, from bosses and platforming to level design. A lot of the more torturous elements should be familiar to veterans of the first game.

During The Game Awards, we learned that the auto-running platformer will be available on the newly launched Epic Games Store. So what gives? According to creator Tommy Refenes on the game’s official Discord (as per PC Gamer), “Super Meat Boy [Forever] is coming to Steam April 2020, a year after it launches.” Refenes feels it was “desperately needed to get Steam to give a s**t.”

“I understand people don’t like change but… the end result of this will mean better games for people,” he said. “It may be more launchers [for players], sure, but a small price to play for a developer community that doesn’t feel like they have one choice on PC. I would have put it on [the Epic Store] eventually anyway and I’m glad to make it exclusive.”

As such, it’s easy to see why the Epic Games Store is appealing to developers, since they pocket 88 percent of the revenue. While the store suffers from a currently limited selection and lack of region pricing, the backing of Epic Games and appealing terms for developers could lead to quick improvements.

Along with PC, Super Meat Boy Forever is also coming to Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android.

"It's not over yet", proclaims the latest teaser from Skybound Games.

At the Kinda Funny Games Showcase, Skybound Games announced that the third episode of The Walking Dead: The Final Season will release on January 15th, 2019. Titled “Broken Toys”, it will launch for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Check out the teaser trailer below, which aptly proclaims “It’s not over yet”.

It’s quite fitting, considering the events surrounding Telltale Games. After the developer announced a majority studio closure and began liquidating its assets, the task of developing the rest of The Final Season was passed off to Skybound Games. About 40 of Telltale’s developers, dubbed Still Not Bitten, are helping with the development.

Episode 3: Broken Toys will continue with the trials of Clementine and AJ as they discover a home to hopefully settle down. Things are never that easy though, and it’s not too long before sacrifice, decisions, and relationships play a key role in the conclusion. Will Clementine suffer the same fate as Lee Everett from the first season- or worse? We’ll find out in the coming months.

Will be launching with both English and Japanese voices.

During the Kinda Funny Games Showcase, Sega announced that Project Judge/Judge Eyes (the Yakuza-like title that’s out in Japan this month) would be coming to the West in Summer 2019. Not only that, but it would renamed to Judgment instead. Check out the announcement trailer below.

Though an explicit release date wasn’t given, Sega did share more information on the star-studded English voice cast. Protagonist Takayuki Yagami will be played by Greg Chun (Nier Automata), while other big names like Crispin Freeman (Overwatch), Matthew Mercer (Overwatch, Pillars of Eternity 2) and Yuri Lowenthal (Spider-Man, Saints Row) will be in supporting roles. You can also expect guest appearances from the likes of SungWon Cho and Cristina Vee, among other actors.

The good news is that even if you don’t like the English voice acting, Judgment will have dual-audio options when it launches in the West. Though the game’s Yakuza inspiration can’t be denied, Judgment also features plenty of gameplay centered around investigation and courtroom drama. It’s currently slated to release for PS4 and will arrive in Japan on December 13th, just days from now.

New teaser images suggest that Barma Thazël is up to no good.

Sabotage Studio’s retro action platformer The Messenger recently received a new update, which, most notably, included an endless New Game Plus mode. Even more new content seems to be in the works though. A recent tweet from the game’s official Twitter page has confirmed its appearance at the Kinda Funny Games Showcase, along with featuring four teasing images.

These images see Barma Thazël, the meddlesome servant to the Demon King, kidnapping some Phobekin on a tropical island. Whether this will be a new storyline or even a new area to explore remains to be seen. If the base game is any indication, we can expect the same signature humour and wit that The Messenger is known for.

Currently available on PC and Nintendo Switch, The Messenger pays homage to classics like Ninja Gaiden and Super Metroid. It’s difficulty can be rather intense at times, but the game has been praised for its old-school aesthetic and unique time travel mechanics. What new content could be coming? Tune into the Kinda Funny Games Showcase on December 8th to find out.

Sega looks to be gearing up to make an announcement at the event this December.

There might not be a PSX event this year, but the Kinda Funny Games Showcase is looking to fill in the void somewhat. The event will present a showcase for nearly fifty games that will be shown off, and as it turns out, a new Yakuza announcement by Sega might also be among those games.

Recently, Greg Miller of Kinda Funny Games tweeted at Sega’s official account, egging them on to make a Yakuza announcement at the showcase next month, to which Sega responded, “You know what. You’ve convinced us. Sure!” That is definitely cause for excitement for Yakuza fans.

The announcement could be any number of things- Yakuza 3 Remaster is already out in Japan, while Yakuza 4 Remaster launches in the country next month, but Sega have suggested that they could launch in the west as well. Another possibility is a PC announcement for Yakuza 6, or a release date announcement for the PC version of Yakuza Kiwami. Less likely (but not completely out of the question) is an announcement relating to Shin Yakuza.

We’ll find out either way when the Kinda Funny Games Showcase takes place on December 8.

Taking place on the morning after The Game Awards.

It wasn’t too long ago that Sony announced they wouldn’t be holding a PSX event this year, like they have been doing for a few years running now. Soon after, Greg Miller of Kinda Funny Games confirmed that Kinda Funny would instead be holding their own event, one that would look to fill the void and, unlike PSX, wouldn’t be exclusive to just PlayStation.

Miller has now confirmed via Twitter that the Kinda Funny Games Showcase will be held on the morning after The Game Awards, similar to the time slot PSX usually fills, on December 8, 2018, at 10:00 AM PST (1:00 PM EST). Miller also stated that the event will be attended by nearly 50 developers who “have something exciting to say.”

So far, several developers of indie titles, such as Wraith Games and Turbolance Games, have confirmed that they’ll be part of the showcase, and games such as Aftercharge, Anew: The Distant Light, and Long Gone Days have also been confirmed to be part of the showcase.
