More copies sold on just one platform than many franchises manage put together.

Minecraft is one of the most successful games ever made. It’s so successful that it has sold more on one platform alone than many games manage to sell across every single system they release on. For instance, the official Minecraft website tracks the total sales of the game on PC so far—and that number has officially crossed 30 million.

For context, that would mean more than almost every Call of Duty game, more than the pre-Grand Theft Auto 5 games in that series, more than either Red Dead Redemption or Red Dead Redemption 2, more than Fallout 4, more than any Pokemon game except for Red/Blue, more than any Mario Kart game except for Mario Kart Wii, and… I could go on, but I think you get the point. This was achieved on just one platform alone, while most games I named are multiplatform.

Minecraft should only continue to move from strength to strength going forward, especially with the game hitting Game Pass, and divesting itself of its controversial creator.

Skylanders fans should be excited.

Skylanders is such an unlikely success. But a success is what it is, to the extent that it caused the creation of a brand new genre, and imitators such as Disney and even Nintendo to follow in its footsteps. The newest game, Skyanders: Trap Team, appears to be every bit the success that the previous games in the franchise have been, and Activision announced that they will be making the new game even more desirable by introducing two new elements to the game for the first time in the franchise’s history. Two new Trap Masters – Knight Mare and Knight Light, will hit store shelves nationwide this festive season, via special Light and Dark Elemental Quest Packs. Each Elemental Quest Pack contains a Trap Master, a special Trap capable of capturing either Light or Dark villains, as well as a location piece that unlocks a special level in the game. The Light and Dark Elemental Quest Packs will be available at all major retailers nationwide.

“It’s amazing to see how deeply engrossed and fascinated our fans have been with the Skylanders franchise,” said John Coyne, vice president of Consumer Marketing at Activision Publishing, Inc. “By unveiling new Light and Dark elements and heroes to the Skylanders universe, our fans around the world will have new ways of exploring all the magic, excitement and fun of Skylands.”

Skylanders: Trap Team is the fourth game in the franchise and compatible with every single Skylanders toy released so far (so over 175 of them). It is available for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Wii, Wii U, Nintendo 3DS, Kindle OS, Android, and iPad.
