To bring out more "high quality games".

An erstwhile NeoGAF user Goli translated Square Enix mobile game division’s producer Takehiro Ando’s blog post wherein the latter stated that Square Enix will be releasing more high quality titles this year for “hardcore” gamers.

Essentially, ever since Square Enix’s social game Knights of the Crystals came about, there have been many other identitcal games to be developed for mobiles. These titles were little more than some titles being reskinned versions of other games that involved card collecting or gacha

Fair enough. Everyone wanted to make the next Counter-Strike when Minh Le struck gold as well.

But when Square Enix does the same, that’s a problem. Especially with multiple games like Circle of Mana, Guardian Cross, Million Arthur, etc. And while they appeal to newer gamers, the older ones are feeling shunned. So Square Enix will cater to hardcore gamers by focusing on high-quality releases and not releasing any social games.

Sounds like a plan but the question must be asked: Where does Lightning Returns fall in the grand scheme of things?
