The Lara Croft Collection is a bundle featuring Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light and Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris.

Feral Interactive has announced that The Lara Croft Collection will be released on the Nintendo Switch on June 29. The announcement was made alongside a new trailer, which you can check out below.

Thanks to the official announcement, The Lara Croft Collection is now also available to pre-order through the Nintendo eShop, and is priced at $24.99. The collection is a bundle featuring two games: Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, and Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris.

The Nintendo Switch release of The Lara Croft Collection will feature the same classic co-op centric games, along with the ability to play local multiplayer between up to four players.

A Nintendo Switch release for the two Lara Croft games being this close was first hinted at back in May when an ESRB rating for a bundle with the two titles popped up on the ratings board’s official website. For context, both Crystal Dynamics and Feral Games had first announced plans to bring the two titles on to the Nintendo Switch all the way back in 2021.

The two co-op centric Lara Croft games finally seem to be making their way on to the Nintendo Switch soon.

The Lara Croft Collection has been rated by the ESRB for release on the Nintendo Switch. While it still doesn’t have a release date, the ESRB has given The Lara Croft Collection a rating of T, noting that it features mild blood, mild language, and violence. For context, The Lara Croft Collection will include two spin-offs of Tomb Raider: Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, and Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris.

Both of the Lara Croft games have been out for quite some time on other platforms. Crystal Dynamics and Feral Games had announced plans to bring the two titles to the Nintendo Switch all the way back in 2021. While originally slated for release in 2022, the studios clearly saw some delays. The collection, however, finally seems to be set for a launch soon.

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light and Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris are both isometric adventure games that place a strong emphasis on exploration and puzzle solving. Both games also quite heavily emphasise co-operative play, allowing for up to two players in Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, and for up to four players in Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris.

"But it was a great opportunity to do something a little bit outside of the core."

The Tomb Raider franchise has struggles to maintain its identity in the last decade, up until the reboot. The installments simply did not manage to find solid ground as each subsequent installment tried to imitate elements from other games in order to cater to a wider audience, causing most of the existing fan base to feel alienated. In 2010, Crystal Dynamics took Lara in a whole new direction by switching to an isometric co-operative adventure. While Lara might have jumped genres, all the core staples of the Tomb Raider franchise were all intact, along with surprising new additions. The Guardian of Light was the finest Tomb Raider entry in years, and fans held out hope for a sequel which will now never come to be.

“There are no plans to do anything in that series but it was a great opportunity to do something a little bit outside of the core,” said creative director Noah Hughes in an interview with OXM.

“Guardian was a great opportunity to explore things that we may not have done in the pillar franchise titles, but in that case it was co-op.”

When asked whether the developer had planned to include co-op in the reboot, Noah said that the campaign is simply not appropriate for a co-operative experience, and we couldn’t agree more.

“We looked at the integration of multiplayer in Tomb Raider. We’re anxious to continue to play with ways that people could tomb raid together. With Guardian of Light, the tone and the story supported side-by-side play in the campaign; this time around, it’s less appropriate and we tried to do more of a complementary experience, hoping it would have a lot of replay ability and people can just jump in and have fun.”

“Those are just two of our explorations into multiplayer in the Tomb Raider universe, and we are anxious to see what else we can do in connected play.”

Tomb Raider has just landed on store shelves, and is the breath of fresh air that the franchise was gasping for. You can check out our review of it here if you need further convincing.

The latest to jump aboard the cloud computing and game streaming phenomenon is Square Enix. They’ve recently debuted Core Online, which supports Cloud saves. More importantly though, you can play HD games via your faithful browser for free. No installation, no updates, nothing.

You can access the site here. It’s been developed Hapti Co., based in Denmark and features an interesting system for generating revenue. Supported by ads, you have to click on them to continue the F2P experience. Or you can go for an ad-free version by simply purchasing the level (or game). As the URL indicates, the site is currently in beta phase.

Games currently listed include Hitman: Blood Money and Mini Ninjas. Isometric action-adventure title Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light is scheduled to release in October.

Tomb Raider: Underworld and Gyromancer currently have no release date, but are being advertised as “coming soon”. Wonder how many more titles that will include?

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light has been out for quite a while now for both the PS3 and the 360, and while both games were missing the co-op feature, the Xbox 360 version of the game did get a patch for it in October.

But now PS3 owners will get to play some co-op action as well, because Crystal Dynamics has finally added co-op via a patch.

Go ahead and invite your friend to play with you, I’m sure the game will be even better now.
