Riot officially reveals League of Legends' upcoming support role champion, the Chem-Baroness from Zaun, Renata Glasc.

This has been a busy year for Riot Games when it comes to League of Legends. With the new ADC champion Zeri releasing a couple of weeks back, things have been shaken up in the world of Runeterra. It seems the developers are not yet done shaking things and metas up though, as they recently officially unveiled their next champion for the MOBA.

Called Renata Glasc, she hails from Zaun, just like Zeri. However, Renata is a Chem-Baroness, and her abilities revolve around her status in the world of Runeterra. The new character was unveiled through a new champion trailer showcasing her gameplay kit in action against opponents in various lanes.

The upcoming champion is going to belong primarily to the support role if the abilities showcased in the trailer are anything to go by. In one scenario, Renata is shown to resurrect one of the champions for a while, where said champion deals damage to an opponent, which also heals up a revived ally completely if they can take down an opponent in that state. Similarly, Renata can shield allies and slow down opponents, and her ultimate sends the enemy team into a frenzy.

Renata is planned to be added with patch 12.4, which is scheduled to release on February 14. Riot Games have also revealed Renata’s ability kit through their official website. Clearly, she is shaping up to be a game-changing support character for League of Legends, at least if proper co-ordination is maintained between players.

Check out the new trailer introducing Renata for League of Legends down below.

Riot finally reveals League of Legends' upcoming bot lane AD Carry, the Zaun-based vigilante Zeri, through a new Champion trailer.

Riot Games has finally revealed the trailer for their upcoming League of Legends champion Zeri, after announcing that the upcoming champion would get delayed to 2022. The trailer shows her fending off the Chem-Baron thugs who have been harassing an individual, making it pretty obvious that she is a vigilante character in Zaun, just like the champion Ekko.

As previously mentioned in the September 2021 roadmap by Riot Games, Zeri was meant to release at the end of 2021, tying up to an event, which seemed to be the Riot X Arcane event. Unfortunately, the release was delayed and pushed into 2022 along with an upcoming support character, which is yet to be revealed.

The upcoming champion for League of Legends will be a bot lane character of the AD Carry classification and her toolset looks pretty similar to existing champions in the roster, such as a dash, which seems to be pretty similar to the League of Legends champion Vayne, and the ability to jump over the wall, which is similar to the champion Talon.

Riot Games had a great year with the League of Legends universe, as the company revealed last year that the playerbase for the game reached a collective of 180 million active userbase.

Check the trailer for the upcoming League of Legends champion Zeri down below.

Riot has officially announced that the League of Legends games have collectively reached a total of 180 million active players.

Riot Games has recently revealed that it has reached a total of 180 million active players across all games set in the League of Legends universe. The company announced this via a Twitter post, which you can check out below. For context, Steam has a 120 million monthly active user base.

Riot Games has confirmed in a statement to PC Gamer that these figures are the collective sum of monthly active players League of Legends, League of Legends: Wild Rift, Legends of Runeterra, Teamfight Tactics, and Fight for the Golden Spatula. The terminology implies active monthly users who have played at least one of the aforementioned games in the calendar month of October. If one user players two games, they’ll be counted as two users.

Riot explains: “Monthly active users (‘MAUs’) are defined as the number of players who accessed a game, and in this case, the calendar month of October. A player who accesses two of our games would be counted as two users.”

While Riot’s League of Legends games have been a massive success for a number of years, the total userbase is still surprisingly large for just a handful of games. With Riot continuing to update its games in a timely fashion, it seems that the publisher will keep its momentum going forward.

Thank you to our global community for helping Runeterra reach new heights! 180 million players in October and still growing! pic.twitter.com/7w9goYBeBM

Post-launch features include ARAM mode, ranked seasons and two new Champions each month.

Riot Games’ open beta for League of Legends: Wild Rift will release this March in North America, as announced in the Season 2021 Opening Day livestream. The mobile MOBA will see the addition of ARAM (All Random All Mid) mode along with ranked seasons and events. Despite having a smaller roster at launch, each month will see two new Champions added.

League of Legends: Wild Rift isn’t a direct port of the popular free to play PC MOBA. As detailed in the May 2020 dev diary, the gameplay has been re-imagined for mobile devices with touchscreen controls, a smaller map and more buffs. Matches are also meant to last for a shorter amount of time, especially with changes like the Nexus not having turrets.

Though “new” Champions will be added, many will likely be based on their PC versions (at least in the beginning of the game’s life-cycle). Their abilities will be tweaked to play differently and adjust to the mobile version’s pace. League of Legends: Wild Rift will also be coming to consoles but no release window has been announced.

Riot Games talks about paring down the MOBA experience for mobiles.

With Legends of Runeterra launching in late April and Valorant out tomorrow, Riot Games is currently on fire with the number of new releases. Add another one to the pile with League of Legends: Wild Rift, a mobile version of the MOBA which aims to streamline things while maintaining the core gameplay. Check out the developer diary below which outlines exactly how the team is achieving that.

Like Mobile Legends and Arena of Valor, the control scheme sees players using a joystick on the touchscreen to move their character. Match times are also significantly reduced thanks to a smaller map, faster purchasing of items for one’s Champion, additional buffs courtesy of new drakes and much more. Even the Nexus won’t have turrets around it, which means you can’t delay the inevitable like in the PC version.

The roster of Champions will also be significantly smaller at launch and some have seen changes to their abilities to fit the controls and pacing. Additional Champions will be added post-launch but again, don’t expect them to be 1:1 copies of their PC counterparts. The first phase of the game’s alpha will on June 5th and run for two weeks in Brazil and the Philippines. You can sign up for the test here.

The popular game gets a revised version for consoles and mobile.

League of Legends has been one of the longest running and most successful MOBA titles. It still pulls in a ton of players and viewers on Twitch as people have come back, being a pioneer of the genre. The game has been a PC only title for its entire existence and now that is changing, at least somewhat, with the announcement of League of Legends: Wild Rift.

There have been rumors of a mobile version of the game coming for some time, and now we’ve got confirmation of it along with console versions of the game. It’s not entirely a 1:1 conversion, however. The matches will be reduced in time from the usual 45+ minutes to around 20, and will only launch with 40 of the current Legends.

League of Legends: Wild Rift will launch for consoles and mobile devices in 2020. No specific platforms are given, but presumably the game will be available for most modern platforms and iOS and Android devices. We’ll keep you updated as more information comes out.
