Legendary Pictures apparently working on deal for film rights.

The sterling success of Pokemon GO has apparently prompted Hollywood to look into a live action Pokemon film. There was interest before but nothing says revenue like a hit mobile game that garnered $14.04 million in four days without a full-scale global launch and has everyone and their grandmother playing it.

As per Deadline, apparently Legendary Pictures is close to acquiring the rights for making films based on the franchise.

The company has been pursuing the same for some time and have been competing with Sony and Warner Bros. which both entered the fray in April. A rumour states that Chronicle writer and professional wrestling nerd Max Landis was being considered to write the screenplay.

Legendary has a bit of an odd track record when it comes to video game adaptations (see the recent Warcraft flick…or actually don’t) but a live action film would still be a major development for the franchise. Would you like to see it happen? Let us know in the comments.

Based on World of Warcraft, the film will go up against Sony's Inferno.

Just when you thought it was but another abandoned video game film, Universal and Legendary Pictures have announced that Warcraft has been officially dated according to Deadline. It will be releasing on December 18th 2015, and will be the first film to be released under the new partnership between the studios.

Directed by Duncan Joines, who also co-wrote the screenplay along with Charles Leavitt, the movie will be based on Blizzard Entertainment’s successful MMORPG World of Warcraft. It will also apparently be releasing on the same day as Sony’s Inferno.

Other credits include Charles Roven and Alex Gartner who are producing the film for Atlas Entertainment, Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni for Legendary Pictures and Stuart Fenegan, Jillian Share and Brent O’Connor serving on the project as executive producers. Blizzard Entertainment’s own Chris Metzen will co-produce the film. Now the question remains: Who’s looking forward to this? Let us know in the comments below.
