So let’s take a look at 15 big games rumored to be in development. Remember to take all of these with a grain of salt, even if they’re from respectable sources, sit back and have fun.

Silent Hill Reboots

The Silent Hill reboot saga has only gotten stranger in the past year or so. Originally, rumors claimed that Konami was working with SIE Japan Studio on a reboot that would be exclusive to the PS5. With the lack of announcements or updates, however, it felt like a pipe dream. This past February, developer Bloober Team spoke about how they’d been developing a horror game for more than a year “with a very famous gaming publisher.” VideoGamesChronicle reported that Konami had been shopping the franchise around over the years and that a prominent Japanese developer is currently working on a reboot. This doesn’t mean Bloober Team isn’t working on its own Silent Hill but having two reboots isn’t entirely out of the question. As for the first title, a reveal is apparently coming this Summer so there’s that to look forward to.

Later this week we will get the unveiling of the next Life is Strange game. The anthology franchise has now seen two mainline entries and a spin-off that followed a cast of young characters who have superpowers unexpectedly thrust on them. We know that the new game will have a new main character, which has been teased above, and rumors have come out about the new cast of characters and story, as well as potentially being named Life is Strange: True Colors. Now more rumors are out there that potentially details a lot more.

On a post at the ResetEra gaming forums, a poster by the name of Meelow posted several new details about the game. They reinforce some of the previous leaks, such as the main character being a girl named Alex and having the ability to read minds. But they go into more details, saying that the location will be a Midwestern town similar to the setting of the first game, that Alex is a bisexual Asian-American, will have two romance options, and that part of her backstory will be that she comes from foster care. They also state something about controlling someone with Dementia to gain information, but it’s not entirely clear what is meant there, or what the context would be for the situation.

As always with leaks, take things of this nature with a grain of salt, but this largely matches up with a lot of previous things we’ve heard and seems like it’d fit the tone the series has gone for in previous titles. The game is set to be unveiled on March 18th at the Square Enix Presents showcase. We’ll probably know how accurate this is then.

Square Enix will be announcing the next Life is Strange title on March 18th at its digital showcase. In the meantime, the Steam pages for Life is Strange 1 and 2, and Life is Strange: Before the Storm released a “glimpse” at the next protagonist (see above). A new cast, new story and new power were also promised.

Rumors about the next Life is Strange have been circulated since this past January. Insider Emily Rogers reported that Deck Nine of Before the Storm fame would be working on the sequels since Dontnod and Square Enix parted ways “a long, long time ago.” A more recent rumor on ResetEra revealed that the next title would be called Life is Strange: True Colors and that the new protagonist’s name is Alex.

Alex’s power is apparently about reading minds with characters having different colors showcasing their emotions. It also seems there will be a heavier focus on music than the first game. While the rumor should be taken with a grain of salt, it did note that the sequel would be announced “pretty soon.”

With Life is Strange 2 now having been out for over a year (longer, if you consider when the season’s first episode released), fans of the series have been wondering what the future holds. Dontnod Entertainment kicked the series off and then continued it with its numbered sequel, but it seems Life is Strange won’t be in their hands going forward.

Taking to Twitter, insider Emily Rogers stated that all future Life is Strange projects will be handled by Deck Nine, the studio that developed Life is Strange: Before the Storm, the prequel to the first game. According to Rogers, Square Enix and Dontnod Entertainment “parted ways a long, long time ago.”

Given the fact that Dontnod Entertainment have their eyes set on self-publishing and growing as a developer, it isn’t that surprising to hear that they don’t have plans to continue working with Square Enix. Besides, series fans can rest easy with Deck Nine’s stewardship, since Before the Storm was a legitimately great game in its own right.

Last year saw the release of several hotly anticipated games, one of which was the beginning of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake project that seems to have been a massive hit for the company. The game is exclusive to PS4 for now, and is said to be so for up until April 2021, though it seems a new version of it and another Square property may be showing up in some degree soon.

Insider/leaker Navtra, who leaked Final Fantasy 16 and other titles last year, posted on the popular ResetERA forums to say that they were expecting to see the PS5 version of Final Fantasy 7 Remake being unveiled soon, as early as next month. They also say they think it and the next Life is Strange game, which they refer to as Life is Strange 3 but later say they think it will not have the 3 in the title and opt for a subtitle instead, will be revealed at around the same time.

“Square announcements are piling up. We’re getting XIV‘s next expansion’s reveal next month and VIIR PS5 & Life is Strange 3 should be soon after.

“Thing is, talking “when” is tricky due to the current circumstances. Games that were targeting this quarter for release as late as last summer didn’t even get trailers since. So I can never be too sure about when something is announced/released.

“With that said, I believe we’re getting these announcement sometime in February. I just can’t be 100% sure about it.”

It’s a given that 7 Remake would go to other platforms when the exclusive deal was up, at least a PC edition is expected, though the PS5 version may not be set to those rules and could come before the April 2021 cut off date. Life is Strange hasn’t been talked about much since the second game wrapped up, but it was said back in 2019 that the series looked to continue its anthology nature of following different characters.
