Safiya Llewellyn-Fayyad, or Safi, is touted as a poet and a people person keen on helping Max open up. Things take a turn for the worst, however, when she’s murdered one night out of the blue, causing Max to reawaken her time-bending powers. However, instead of rewinding, she enters a parallel timeline.

In this timeline, Safi is still alive (alongside other changes), which would be good news if her killer wasn’t still on the loose. Max hopes to solve the mystery of her friend’s death by jumping between timelines. Interestingly enough, Safi is confirmed to be the daughter of Caledon’s president, Yasmin, though how that will factor into the proceedings remains to be seen.

Life is Strange: Double Exposure launches on October 29th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC, with the Nintendo Switch version arriving later. It doesn’t support save transfer but respects the first game’s endings, allowing players to choose their desired outcome when starting.

Life is Strange offered two very different outcomes when all was said and done. However, the developer confirmed that it’s not taking a single one as canon, choosing to honor both endings instead. The events of the entire game are reflected in Double Exposure. Those new to the series can also rest assured that they won’t have to play the previous games to enjoy the story.

While there won’t be any save transfer for the first game, a conversation early in the game allows Max to make choices based on one’s experience (including Chloe’s status). If you want to see how things could be different and go with other choices, that’s also an option.

Developed by DON’T NOD, the first game centers on Max Caulfield, a photography student at Blackwell Academy in Arcadia Bay. After witnessing the murder of her best friend, Chloe Price, she suddenly gains the power to rewind time. Saving Chloe and reuniting with her leads to a long journey with enormous consequences.

Sony has announced the titles joining the Game Catalog for PlayStation Extra and Premium this month. Starting January 17th, subscribers will have access to Back 4 Blood on PS4 and PS5, Dragon Ball FighterZ on PS4, and Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition on PS5 (along with Devil May Cry 5 on PS4).

But that’s not all. Life is Strange and Life is Strange: Before the Storm on PS4 is coming along with Sayonara Wild Hearts. Jett: The Far Shore, which receives a free campaign in “Given Time” this year, will be playable on PS4 and PS5. Those seeking open-world chaos can check out Just Cause 4 on PS4 and Just Cause 4: Reloaded on PS4 and PS5.

Emotional adventure game Omno and FMV thriller Erica round out the remaining PS4 titles. As for PlayStation Plus Premium Classics, there’s the addition of Syphon Filter 3, Star Wars Demolition and Hot Shots Golf 2 on PlayStation One. As spotted by Veryaligaming, a couple of recent job listings published by Deck Nine (that have since been taken down) seemed to strongly suggest that the studio has started working on the next Life is Strange game.

A listing for the Lead Designer position mentioned that Deck Nine was ramping up recruitment for the development of “an unannounced AAA single-player adventure game”, while elsewhere in the listing, the project is also referred to as the studio’s “next narrative adventure title”.

There was also mention of “non-linear narrative systems and structure”, which fits very well with what you’d expect from a Life is Strange game. Interestingly, the job ad also suggested that the game is being built for PC and current-gen consoles using Unreal Engine. In an ad for the Senior Animator position, meanwhile, Deck Nine described the title as a “AAA single player adventure game”.

Deck Nine is currently also working with Telltale Games, with the two co-developing the upcoming The Expanse: A Telltale Series. 

Amnesia: The Dark Descent

Initially, you pity Daniel – he’s trapped in a strange castle with no memories of how he got there and with a murderous Shadow that’s out to get him. Nothing can stop the Shadow and it becomes more commonplace as time goes on. However, it’s revealed that Daniel accidentally unleashed the Shadow upon discovering a strange orb during an archaeological dig. With no other options, he would eventually be contacted by Alexander, a mysterious being who says he can help repel the creature.

Doing this requires gathering vitae from people suffering from immense pain. And so Daniel helped Alexander to capture and torture people (whom the latter claimed to be criminals but were in fact not), using amnesia potion to ensure they remain terrified throughout. Eventually, however, it’s revealed that Alexander is harvesting the vitae to return to his own dimension using the orb. Daniel is betrayed in the process and seeks revenge, using the amnesia potion on himself to push past his guilt.

Upon venturing into the inner reaches of the castle, where Alexander is conducting a ceremony to open a portal, the player can either let him continue and thus be killed by the Shadow, or disrupt it, causing the Shadow to only kill Alexander. The latter seems pretty good but given Daniel’s hand in the torture of innocents, it’s hardly all sunshine and rainbows by the end.

Another choice is to throw the head of Agrippa, a prisoner with knowledge of the orb, into the portal. Both Daniel and Alexander then die to the Shadow but the former won’t descend into darkness because Agrippa will help him…or something. Even if you were being kind and felt Daniel deserved to be saved, there’s no guarantee that the Shadow wouldn’t still be pursuing him.

Life is Strange: Remastered Collection includes Life is Strange Remastered and Life is Strange: Before the Storm Remastered. Each game has touched-up visuals along with engine and lighting upgrades. Though full facial motion-capture is a selling point, it’s worth noting that this applies only to the first game and not Before the Storm Remastered.

Both remasters will be rendered in native 4K with updated 4K-ready character models, all of whom have increased polycounts, improved hair physics, a new lighting system, and more expressive animations for characters (which also includes motion capture for facial animations and improved lip sync).

Life is Strange: Before the Storm Remastered is included with Life is Strange: Remastered Collection along with the first game’s remaster. Among the improvements are updates to the engine and lighting along with more refined puzzles. Unfortunately, the new full facial motion capture only applies to Life is Strange Remastered and not the prequel.

Life is Strange: Remastered Collection releases on February 1st. It will be available for PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Google Stadia (with the Nintendo Switch version out later this year). Pre-ordering the collection nets the Zombie Crypt Outfit for Chloe to use in Life is Strange: Before the Storm Remastered.

The collection features Life is Strange Remastered and Life is Strange: Before the Storm Remastered in one package. Along with remastered graphics for its characters and environments, it also improves character animations and implements full facial motion-capture. The engine and lighting has also seen some upgrades (though we’re yet to see the “updated and refined” puzzles).

Life is Strange: Remastered Collection is out on February 1st for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, PC and Google Stadia. The Nintendo Switch version has been delayed and will now release later this year. Stay tuned for more details in the coming week.
