There are countless heroes in the gaming wolrd, but some stick with us more than others. Some are appointed as the mascot by a company while other's are picked by the community itself.

We all have our favorite characters in video games. These characters may be an official representative of a developer, or a hardware manufacturer. Our favorite characters are powerful, yet exposed and vulnerable and can sometimes feel as human as you or anyone else.

A good character can represent an entire generation or just a game genre that is powerful. No matter how far back we may go in gaming there is always a connection to be found and an experience that others can share with you. These mascots of the gaming world are much more than a person in a rubber suit representing our colleges or favorite sports teams. They represent a feeling, an idea and most importantly the power of the human mind.

1. The Mario Brothers:

Well this one is obvious, they’re basically the little Italian men that started it all. Hell, Mario is the guywho is dodging barrels and saving the damsel in distress before he even had a game himself. His nemesis is a guerrilla with an identity crisis who thought he was a donkey and there were more ladders than most of us would care to ever actually climb.

Then he met up with his brother and they went on to fight Bowser and save the Princess as well as the Mushroom kingdom. Mario and his brother Luigi are the most iconic characters in video game history and probably the most popular plumbers to never actually unclog a pipe. They’ve had cartoons, a movie and merchandise named after them. The Mario Brothers are where many of us started as gamers. We will always have fond memories of these brothers no matter what platform we’ve chosen as our favorite.

According to Gamasutra, Beiswenger has chosen to voluntarily drop his lawsuit due to “unrelated business matters”.

Beiswenger has originally claimed that the Assassin’s Creed storyline lifted several major plot points from his 2002 novel ‘Link’.

In dropping the case against Ubisoft at this point, according to legal representative Kelley Clements Keller, Beiswenger is free to re-open the case at any point in the future should he desire to do so.

“My client’s decision to exercise his right to voluntarily dismiss the action, without prejudice, in no way diminishes his stalwart conviction in the merit of his claims against Ubisoft. He is unwavering in his belief that many key components of the Assassin’s Creed video game franchise infringe on many key components of his novel, Link,” said Keller.

“We believe Ubisoft has engaged in egregious acts of copyright infringement and, should he choose to seek redress through the courts in the future, we remain confident that a trier of fact would agree.”

Beiswenger had also filed a lawsuit against GameTrailers, which was settled out of court on 18 May.

Earlier today at Nintendo’s E3 showing, Miyamoto announced that the much hyped Zelda title, slated to be a “re-boot”, will be releasing in 2011 for the Wii. The game is titled Skyward Sword.

A teaser trailer, an announcement trailer and lots of gameplay footage was shown as well. The trailers were pretty good- the art style is spectacular, the visuals very appealing, and FINALLY Zelda has full orchestrated sound, as opposed to MIDI. But the gameplay footage was a bit disappointing. Apparently, the game features nothing that we haven’t seen in the past Zelda games. But Link looks more mature now, and sounds the same.

The demo didn’t go off too well because of some wireless interferance in the hall, but what we saw appeared decent, though nothing really special. Though Link has a whip, which looked real kickass. Anyway, let’s wait and watch.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword will be released for the Wii next year. The E3 videos regarding LoZ:SS can be found below.
