Amazon has announced that its Lovefilm movie streaming service is now available on Sony’s PlayStation 4 system: users can now access the full catalog of Lovefilm’s movies in glorious 1080p and 5.1 surround sound.

In addition to that, the UI and navigation experience has been streamlined for the PS4’s controller, and it allows users to manage their Watchlists with no issues. The app also supports Whispersync technology, meaning you can pick up your movie or TV show from exactly where you left it off the last time, across devices.

Simon Morris, Chief Marketing Office, at Lovefilm said, “The PS3 is already one of the most popular ways for our members to access the wide range of film and TV shows available on Lovefilm, so we’re really excited to bring our streaming app to the next generation of this great console.”

Lovefilm is already available on Sony’s TVs, Blu Ray players, and PlayStation 3.

LOVEFiLM launches on Xbox LIVE tomorrow. Xbox LIVE members will be able to instantly watch thousands of movies via LOVEFiLM Instant including exclusive content such as Gran Torino and others with forthcoming titles The Dark Knight, The Hangover and Blue Valentine becoming available in time for Holidays.

You can also use the service with voice command via Kinect.

LOVEFiLM Instant is available on packages from £5.99 via devices including PCs, iPad, Internet-connected TV sets, Blu-ray players, tablets and games consoles.

German members of LOVEFiLM, Europe’s largest subscription service, streaming movies and TV episodes over the Internet and sending DVDs by post, will be able to stream Europe’s widest choice of titles directly to their TVs – opening up LOVEFiLM in Germany to millions of homes that are already PS3 connected.

The move to expand the digital service in Europe and introduce the Sony partnership into the German market follows the launch of the PS3™ service in the UK in November of last year.  It is the most significant extension to-date of LOVEFiLM’s direct-to-TV rollout, which began in the UK in March 2010 when LOVEFiLM launched on SONY BRAVIA Internet Video TVs, Blu-ray players and Blu-ray Home Theatre kits.

The LOVEFiLM service will become available from today on the XMB (XrossMediaBar) on all Internet-connected PS3™s, providing German members of LOVEFiLM, on subscription packages, with access to hundreds of film favourites, from major studios and independents alike, such as Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, V For Vendetta, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Batman Begins and Beowulf.

Members will be able to scroll through titles on the page, search through categories including ‘Pick of the Week’, ‘Most Watched’ and ‘Highest Rated’, view ratings and search through the LOVEFiLM instant offering by title, actor and genre.  LOVEFiLM will also offer German PS3 users who are not already LOVEFiLM subscribers, exclusive incentives to join the service including free trials.

The movie rental service LOVEFilm is making its way to the PS3.

The decision was announced by a video on Youtube on the official PS3 channel, but it has since been removed.

The service that will be made accessible via the XMB will be able to stream ‘thousands’ of movies direct to your console, including DVD’s and Blu-rays.

Existing members will be able to start streaming instantly.

The move will come as a huge boost for many UK PS3 owners, who have only been able to look on jealously while the US PS3’s have access to Netflix, another streaming site.

The service could be arriving as early as next month.
