Most excellent.

There haven’t been a whole lot of 1080p/60FPS games on the PlayStation 4, even with all the power that it affords- usually, developers hit that resolution, by taking a hit on the frame rate (amusingly enough, even the Wii U has a major exclusive running at 60FPS/1080p, with Super Smash Bros.), but it appears we will finally be getting a 1080p/60FPS game on the system that doesn’t compromise on visual fidelity either. It’s the upcoming Primal Carnage: Extinction.

“For the time being we’re going to stay digital. Support from the games industry and our key partners is strong enough that a retail push isn’t really necessary. And the size of the game won’t scare anyone off from downloading this to their console.

“Yes. We feel we’re on track to hit 1080p/60FPS,” they said. They also mentioned about the possibility of the game coming to the Xbox One in the future. “Nothing’s impossible. I think we want to see how Extinction fares with the PC and PS4 platforms first.”

That sounds like a fairly standard answer. The game looks great, and hopefully it can deliver on its promise. Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more coverage.

From Genesis to Extinction.

Primal Carnage: Extinction will be bringing some massive, gigantic dinosaur action to the PlayStation 4 when it releases early next year, the developer announced on the PlayStation Blog.

‘Primal Carnage: Extinction is a class-based, online multiplayer shooter unlike any other on the PS4 platform, featuring fast-paced combat, diverse environments, and over-the-top action,’ they said. ‘On a mysterious island overrun with prehistoric monsters, players can choose to fight as a variety of legendary dinosaurs or to join the human mercenary team armed with a unique, distinctive, and destructive arsenal aimed at making these bloodthirsty beasts extinct once and for all.’

Of course, alert and astute fans have probably already noticed that Primal Rage: Extinction just seems to be Primal Rage: Genesis, that was already announced for PlayStation a while back. So what happened to it, and what caused the morph to Extinction from Genesis?

‘Primal Carnage: Genesis began development at a time when the Primal Carnage brand and Lukewarm Media were being pulled in different directions, and forces within the company could not completely agree on which project to pursue. There was a strong concept for single-player narrative-driven Primal Carnage game, and there was an exciting opportunity to develop a game for the PS4, built on the brand new Unreal Engine 4, but ultimately the project was too large in scope for Lukewarm Media to pursue, and the project was unofficially put on hold at the end of Summer 2013,’ the developers said, before adding that if Extinction does well enough, they would definitely like to return to do Genesis one day.

Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more coverage.

New dinosaur skins, a new game mode and much more on sale.

Lukewarm Media may be focused on bringing the Unreal Engine 4-powered Primal Carnage: Genesis to the PlayStation 4 and PC, but it hasn’t forgotten about its predecessor. The developer announced that players can pick up Primal Carnage at 50 percent off on Steam’s weekly sale. But that’s not all – there will also be a ton of new content launching this week, including a new game mode in “Capture the Egg”, three new Dino Skin Packs and a new map.

Capture the Egg is essentially a variant of Capture the Flag in which humans will need to sneak and steal the dinosaur’s eggs before returning to base. The mode will be playable via free patch, and is currently in beta stage along with the new map Forgotten Outpost. There will be more maps designed for Capture the Egg depending on player feedback so stay tuned.

Three new Premium Skin DLC Packs will include new dinosaurs, namely the Cryolophosaurus, Tupandactylus and Oviraptor. Each pack will have two variants of each and will retail for $2.49. Lukewarm Media is also aiming at improving all aspects of the game with class and functionality changes planned.

Dinosaurs come to frightening life in another trailer from Lukewarm Media.

Lukewarm Media’s upcoming Primal Carnage: Genesis, which a sequel to their original indie PC title, has received a new trailer showing off the massive hulking dinosaurs that inhabit the game. And thanks to the power of Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 4, they look simply terrifying.

And pretty. Pretty terrifying. Get it?

As of now, there isn’t a lot of information available on Primal Carnage: Genesis, other than the fact that it’s got dinosaurs and shows off the power of the PlayStation 4 (thought it’s also heading to PC. The first game was a class based multiplayer shooter that had players squaring off against each other in teams, as one side chose to play as heavily armed humans while the other could choose flesh eating dinosaurs.

Given all the dinosaurs, probably a step in that direction? We do know that the game will have a single-player campaign. We’ll learn more in the coming months – maybe even at E3 2013.

Unleash the terror. Bathe in bloody awesomeness. Also, dinosaurs!

Lukewarm Media must be quite proud of its game about murderous, awesome dinosaurs. So proud that they thought it’d be a great idea to bring the series to PlayStation 4. Hence, Primal Carnage: Genesis.

A new trailer has been released at GDC 2013, though a post on the official PlayStation Blog describes the game as “a story driven, episodic single player adventure that takes place in a world where dinosaurs have been brought back to life.” And no, this is a brand new game. Not a port of the PC version.

As further evidence, Primal Carnage: Genesis will also be seemingly making its way to PC. To make the deal sweeter, Lukewarm Media has announced that the game will be running on Epic’s sweet new Unreal Engine 4.

Check out the new trailer and decide if they nailed the rampaging monstrosity bits accurately enough.

As of now, Primal Carnage: Genesis has no release date.

Humans fight dinosaurs, much in the way Jurassic Park intended.

Primal Carnage is the latest release to Steam by Lukewarm Media. This team based player versus player pits teams of mercenaries against dinosaurs. Think of it as Team Fortress 2 meets Jurassic Park. Both teams have five classes to choose from. As Humans, you can be the Commando, Path Finder, Pyro, Scientist or Trapper. All classes have special secondary weapons. For example, the Path Finder can throw an ultra bright flare that can blind dinosaurs.

On the dino side your classes are broken down to Pteranodo, Novaraptor, Dilophosaurus, T-Rex, and Carnataurus. I’m not into dinosaurs so I’m going to assume those names aren’t made up. The Dilo is a very small dino that can spit purple goop at humans and the first time I thought my video card crashed on me. It was pretty messy and you can’t see for a few seconds. The Pteranodo is very effective in the sky, if you can master the flying, and can swoop down and snatch up humans. The raptor is the most balanced and strongest. Their secondary attack allows them to leap a great distance to land on a human to tear them to shreds. The T-Rex is big and can just eat people. The Carnataurus is humongous and you really should get extra points for taking one down all by yourself, they are just massive.

As mentioned the game play is just PVP. The environments are lush with heavy brush and vegetation. This works to the favor of both sides. Being much smaller, humans can easily hide in the brushes. This also means the visibility is extremely low for humans too. As dinosaurs you can hide in the bigger brush, and use it to move around faster without being seen. Your team is highlighted so you can keep tabs on everyone close to coordinate attacks. It’s also good to stick together as humans cause in the cases where a raptor pins you down, or a Pteranodo snaps you up into the sky, you are completely incapacitated and must rely on someone else to shoot the dino to free you.

There’s also team chat but I highly suggest you keep the chat minimal. As a human I ran across two dino’s actually talking to each other on a bridge. They learned their lesson quickly with a double kill and why not to talk about how cool the bridge was and how to get to it.

In early review testing I had a hard time finding anyone online, and for the most part didn’t find anything worth noting except that the environments looks pretty good. After some time though I came across some full servers and the games really came to life. With full teams of dinosaurs rampaging through human nests, it stays chaotic throughout and gives you the feeling of a balanced game. Although the dinos should have the advantage due to speed and size, I found many humans to hold their own and gain victory in their rounds. That’s not to say the humans are going to win every time. If your Pternanodo are skilled they can scoop up people and either drop them to their death, or in my case, they dropped me on the top of scaffolding. There was no easy way down, and although I spent time looking for a way down, in the end I wasted time and fell to my death, which shaved off time from winning.

Although game play was solid, at times it felt like I was fighting the heavy brush just to get a glimpse of a dinosaur. In the jungle areas it made more sense, but in cargo freight shipping yards, it seemed fairly obvious that the brush was there only to obscure your view.

Once the servers get full, Primal Carnage can be an exciting game to play. It’s almost like being in the middle of the Jurassic Park movie, however in here, it’s okay that there isn’t a real plot. In the end the game is really just Team Fortress 2 meets Jurassic Park. This could be a good thing for people who pretend the movie had a plot, and are a little tired of Team Fortress 2 and need something new in their team death matches. However if you aren’t into dinosaurs, think Jurassic Park was completely stupid, even though the effects were amazing, and you just played another free round of Team Fortress 2, you could easily skip this game and not even feel like there’s a plot hole in your life. Really, they spent the entire movie getting the power back on, just to leave in a gas powered helicopter.

This game was reviewed on the PC.
