Magicka: Wizard Wars, the riff on Paradox’s popular series which sees players duel each other, will be leaving Steam: Early Access for an official release later this month, Paradox has confirmed.

The full version of the game will be far more full featured than what we have right now in Early Access- will have a new Soul Harvest game mode with new maps, longer rounds and more potential spell-based accidents, among other things. There will be an update to the Early Access version on April 14th that adds a few new things, including a new progression system, a revamped in-game economy and a new spell trial system.

The game itself is free to play, and will remain free to play, so you can go on and check it out right now, if you wanted to, without giving up a dime.

Magicka: Wizard Wars is not Magicka 2- that game is a more traditional sequel to the original, and it will be launching on May 26 on PC and PlayStation 4. Stay tuned.

Paradox Interactive also details pre-order bonuses.

When Magicka first arrived on the scene in 2011, I don’t think anybody would have expected it to become as popular as it did. Now Paradox Interactive have announced the launch date and the pre-order details for the next instalment in the Magicka series.

Set to launch on PC and the PlayStation 4 on May 26th of this year, the latest iteration of the popular magic mixing game will be available for pre-order on the PlayStation 4 soon. PC players however can get their pre-order in now. The announcement of this was accompanied by a nice little 60FPS trailer which you can watch above.

Going on sale at the low price of $14.99 across both platforms, players that pre-order the game will be granted access to the game a little bit earlier than others. You and three of your friends will get into a sneak peek version of the game on May 5th on both PS4 and PC. For European gamers on PlayStation, that will be set for May 6th.

Players that pre-order the game will also be given a unique in game robe as part of the “Game of Robes” which will be available in both Magicka 2 and Magicka Wizard Wars, the PvP counterpart of Magicka.

Duke it out in intense four vs four online battles fraught with destructive spells.

Paradox Interactive has taken the wraps off the Magicka: Wizard Wars, which brings the mages of Magicka to player-versus-player (PvP) online battle arenas. It’s neither an expansion or DLC, but its own beast. Wizard Wars blends elements of the MOBA genre by pitting two teams of four mages against each other, with the dynamic spell-casting mechanics Magicka has become synonymous with.

The game is entirely team based and demands utmost coordination and cooperation from each player in the team. Another twist to the MOBA formula will be the introduction of friendly fire. Though the battles will be short, persistent character progression ensures that each one will take you one step further.

“Magicka has always allowed for some unique gameplay and, with Wizard Wars, we’ve really captured the true experience of PvP wizardry,” said executive VP John Hargelid in a prepared statement.

“When you put the team — focused, hardcore competition of online games together with characters whose attacks are fluid and dynamic — and then give teammates the ability to implode, freeze, and fling each other by accident — it’s really something special to watch, and to play, and to yell at your friends about afterwards.”

The game is being developed by the brand new studio Paradox North, which comprises of former members of Avalanche Studios and DICE . And according to the publisher, “they all look really nice in robes” and come in pretty handy when there’s staffs that need to be repaired.

Magicka: Wizard wards is currently slated to ship this winter. Have a look at the debut trailer below.

Plus a free to play weekend.

Magicka has sold 1.8 million copies, two years after it’s release. In order to celebrate the occasion, Paradox are giving away a free downloadable content to all players who have a copy of the game. The DLC is titled: “Free Jólnir’s Workshop”.

Furthermore, the game will be free 2 play this weekend.

The official press release described this DLC as:

In the new free DLC, players must liberate the wintry workshop of Jólnir, the Crimson King, from a horde of goblins. Jólnir, having let his guard down following a harsh holiday work season, has been forcibly evicted by greedy beasts, and needs the help of Magicka’s well-meaning wizards to resolve this little labor dispute. New monsters, including Goblin Snow Troopers and Autonomous Cannons, will defend their new holdings in the middle of a hazardous blizzard, while wizards take cover behind enormous piles of leftover presents and packages. Free Jólnir’s Workshop and discover what the real magic of the season is.

Overall, this a pretty good gesture by Paradox. What about you? Have you played the game? Let us know in the comments section below.

Stay tuned to GamingBolt.com for more news and updates.

Paradox takes a jab at Diablo

Paradox Interactive has announced that a new expansion to Magicka, titled Dungeons and Daemons has now been released for the PC. You can buy the DLC here for $3.99.

Dungeons and Daemons includes an all new campaign, new co-op missions, new dungeons, “a super-secret hard mode” which Paradox is very tight-lipped about and more.

Paradox also released a trailer for the expansion. It shows plenty of gameplay from the expansion, so you might want to have a look, but the best part is their clever and extremely funny jab at Diablo. You should have a look:

A massive patch for the game has also been released today. Some of the changes and fixes it makes are:

Fixed a pathfinding crash.

Fixed disappearing boss Vlad.

Fixed a crash when killing frozen Khan (and possibly other bosses).

Fixed camera issue when being revived by the fairy.

Fixed NPC spellcaster AI sometimes freezing up.

Mobs are now able to spawn their own kind upon death.

Added some new functionality to scene scripts.

Reduced the physical damage resistance of Enraged Goblin Warlocks.

Fixed a localization crash.

Paradox Interactive have released a new DLC called Magicka Woot, which adds quite a bit of content to the game. You don’t have to pay any money for it, how cool is that!

Magicka: WOOT allows players to join their favorite robed rapscallions as they make their way to a wizarding competition, only held once every few centuries in the land of Midgard. Aspiring sorcery athletes can face each other in the “Olympus Onslaught” PvP maps, trying to out-survive one another in the ever-changing Elemental Roulette arena, or try to stave off trench-foot in the Pool of Undeniable Moisture.

Once those grudges are settled, wizards of all nations can band together for the Triathlon of Terror, skating across a strangely fiery patch of ice and dodging bottomless pits. We should probably mention that nobody told the monsters the Triathlon was in progress, so your chances of survival are pretty slim.

The DLC will be added to any Magicka owners.

The DLC includes:

4 new PvP maps

3 new Challenge maps

10 new Sporting Goods items, including dumbbells, water bottles, and the Elevennis Racket

New “Athletic Techniques” magick, including Performance Enchantment and the crowd-pleasing Wave

Waves upon waves of nasty creatures who hate teamwork, wizards, and robes

The satisfaction of not having spent any money

Paradox Interactive successfully wrapped up its annual two day convention last weekby showcasing a slew of titles slated for release in 2012, as well as unveiling three previously unannounced projects.

Taking place inside Häringe Palace, Sweden’s most haunted castle, the independent publisher demonstrated that it’s not afraid of any ghosts, or embracing change, as it plans to release more titles outside of the strategy genre. Citing 75% growth in 2011 over 2010, Paradox Interactive is gearing up for yet another successful year.

The complete list is as below:

Magicka: The Other Side of the Coin

A Game of Dwarves

Napoleon´s Campaigns II

Paradox Interactive and Arrowhead Studios have announced that the new expansion pack for their game Magicka, titled “The Stars are Left” is now out, and on sale online.

Entitled Magicka: The Stars are Left, Paradox and Arrowhead crafted a horror-mystery campaign that will send players into the “chilling depths of insanity”. The expansion is available now on popular digital distribution platforms for $5.99.

Here’s some info on the expansion pack as given by the devs:

Magicka: The Stars are Left comes hot on the heels of an overhauled game engine for the overall title. Thus ensuring that players’ descent into madness is the result of unholy terrors from beyond time and space, and not because you had to start the entire level over because you died. And let’s face it, there will be lots of death, most of which will be caused by your own actions.

As with all add-on content for Magicka, the new expansion can be played by anybody who purchases it, or anybody playing with someone who has purchased it.
