Nintendo continues to struggle with home console sales.

While the PS4 and Xbox One have had an excellent March, according to the latest NPD Report, with the former being the highest selling console in the US for the third month in a row.

But what about the Nintendo Wii U and 3DS?

According to analyst David Gibson, while Nintendo’s handheld is still going great guns, sales of its home consoles is dismal at best.

“Wii was 28k, Wii U just over 70k, PSP around 5k, PSV little over 10k, 3DS 159k. No Nintendo press release that I can find.”

So there’s no official confirmation from Nintendo but NeoGAF user creamsugar provided NPD sales figures which have been accurate in the past. Nintendo has been struggling to meet sales targets for the Wii U for a good year now. What’s the plan now, especially with major titles like Super Smash Bros. out by year end for the console and heading to the Wii U first? We’ll find out in the coming months.

Total industry sales came to $1.03 billion, despite a 28 percent decrease in software sales.

The NPD Group has revealed its March 2014 report with total software sales totaled $432 million with hardware at $395 million. This meant a 28 percent decrease and a 78 percent increase respectively, with total industry sales increasing to $1.03 billion over the previous month, marking a 3 percent increase.

NPD analyst Liam Callahan stated that, “Software declines in March 2014 stemmed from poor comparisons to new launches from last March. Collectively, March 2014 launches sold 42 percent less than March 2013 launches.

“PS4 and Xbox One continue to see success with cumulative sales of the two consoles through the first five months currently totaling more than double that of their predecessors, the PS3 and Xbox 360.”

In software sales, it was Titanfall that was the highest selling game for March, releasing on Xbox One and PC, beating out inFamous: Second Son which only released on the PS4. This was followed by Call of Duty: Ghosts and Dark Souls II.
