CRONOS (GOD OF WAR 3)

The bigger they are, the harder they fall- this is something that’s doubly true for anyone squaring off against Kratos. Cronos is by far the biggest monstrosity Kratos has ever come up against, but he wrecked the Titan like it was nothing. As Cronos swallowed Kratos, he told him that it was going to be more unpleasant for him than for Kratos- little did he know just how right he was.

Without a doubt, one of the best games on the Nintendo DS, and one of the best RPGs starring Mario and Luigi, is Mario and Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story. It was a fantastic game that was the zenith of the Mario and Luigi formula, featuring some extremely sharp writing and full usage of all the unique features the Nintendo DS had to offer.

So I am actually legitimately very excited for Mario and Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story + Bowser Jr.’s Journey, the upcoming 3DS remake of the game, which adds some new content into the mix to boot. With the release of the game approaching, Nintendo have shared a brand new commercial for the game, featuring Bowser getting some rather terrible news from his doctor. It’s such a shame.

Nintendo has been making some rather interesting trademark moves lately. According to Japanese Nintendo on Twitter, the company recently secured trademarks for Kirby’s Dream Land, Art Academy, and Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story. That doesn’t sound too strange on its own, right?

However, each trademark references “program for home video game machine”, “downloadable video game program” and “program for smartphone”. While this could be Nintendo simply renewing old trademarks as any company would, it may also mean that it’s preparing these titles for additional purposes. Perhaps as downloadable titles on the Switch or ports for smartphones? It’s too early to say at this point. We do know that Mario and Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story + Bowser Jr.’s Journey, a remake of the original game, will be coming to the Nintendo 3DS in January 2019.

As such, Nintendo has been doing very well with original mobile titles based on its established properties. Fire Emblem Heroes earned $452 million in revenue as of November 13^th. Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp had earned less than $10 million just two weeks after launch. Even new properties like Dragalia Lost performed pretty decently, earning $16 million in two weeks. Could there be something bigger in the works down the line? Time will certainly tell.

The Nintendo 3DS will never die- now in its eighth year on the market, Nintendo has made it clear that it intends on keeping the system around for the next year at the very least; today, it showed exactly how it plans to do that.

In addition to Detective Pikachu, which was already announced for a 3DS release later this month, Nintendo revealed three major games for the 3DS at their just concluded Nintendo Direct presentation- the first is WarioWare Gold, which brings the largest collection of WarioWare microgames ever to the 3DS, and utilizes the touch screen, gyro controls, 3D effect, microphone, and buttons. Next up is a port of the GameCube classic Luigi’s Mansion (which incidentally got a sequel on 3DS); both these games are due out this year.

The final big 3DS game announcement is Mario and Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story. Arguably the greatest Mario RPG this side of SuperStar Saga, this game was an absolute riot on the DS, and will now be available on 3DS too. This game launches on 3DS next year, because the 3DS will truly never die.
