With this feature, we will be taking a look at 20 of the best PS4 games of all time in no particular order.

With more than 117 million units sold, it’s clear that Sony’s PS4 was a very successful console. It has naturally amassed a vast wealth of both first-party and third-party releases, and this list runs down 20 of the best games it has to offer in no particular order.

God of War

There aren’t many games that are able to deliver a stunning experience in such a smooth manner as Sony Santa Monica was able to do with the 2018 reboot. This story sets the protagonist in a new setting; new boss fights and outstanding level design. It’s both fresh and recognizable at the same time, and the new combat and the camera on offer also embodies the spirit of modern third person game while making it more intentional. The 2018 reboot is definitely one of the best games on the PS4, and is a great starting point for newcomers.

"He will be a part of the next game, and he won't be relegated to the couch, I promise," says Yuri Lowenthal, the actor behind Peter Parker.

NOTE: There are spoilers ahead for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

Shortly after Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s launch in 2023, Insomniac Games confirmed that Miles Morales would take up the mantle as the series’ primary wallcrawler going forward. With Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 ending with Peter Parker deciding to retire, some wondered whether that meant he would have no role to play in the next instalment. That, however, won’t be the case.

The same has been confirmed by Yuri Lowenthal, the actor who plays Peter Parker in the Insomniac series. Speaking in an interview with The Direct, Lowenthal confirmed that his character will still have a role to play in Marvel’s Spider-Man 3, and that he “won’t be relegated to the couch”.

“There are very few things that I can say about this game, but you have somehow landed on the one thing that I can answer, and that’s that, yes, Peter is not gone. He will be a part of the next game, and he won’t be relegated to the couch, I promise,” he said.

What exactly that means remains to be seen, though it probably doesn’t come as a surprise that the next Spider-Man game is still going to feature, well, Spider-Man. Whether Peter Parker will still be playable is the big question.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 has yet to be officially announced. As per a large-scale leak following a ransomware attack against Insomniac in December 2023, the game is targeting a 2028 release.

Ahead of the highly anticipated Spidey sequel's launch, Insomniac has released a brief recap of the previous two games.

We’re hours away from the launch of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and with excitement surrounding the superhero sequel hitting a fever pitch, Insomniac Games and Sony have released a new video to help you prepare for its release, recapping the events of the previous two Spider-Man games developed by Insomniac.

Though it’s obviously not a comprehensive recap, it does serve as a solid refresher of the events of Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales (in very broad strokes, if nothing else), while also setting up the sequel by being framed as Miles and Peter trying to get his college essay started, which is something he’s struggling with as the game begins.

You can view the video below, or for a much more detailed and comprehensive summary, you can check out our own recap of the previous two games through here.

In our review of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, we awarded it a score of 9/10, saying, “Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is exactly the sort of sequel you’d want it to be, and though it stumbles here and there, ultimately, it improves on its predecessors in almost every way that matters most.” Read the full review through here.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will launch on October 20 for PS5.

We present 15 more games that make excellent use of ray tracing in their visual presentation.

Technology evolves at a rapid pace in the games industry, and each new generation of games brings plenty of new rendering techniques that result in some breathtaking experiences. Ray tracing is undoubtedly one of the hottest things in game tech right now, and for good reason. Games are able to produce markedly better shadows and reflections with ray tracing, and when used correctly – it can elevate the visual presentation to another level. We have already covered some of the best games that feature ray tracing in previous videos, and here are a few more games that belong to this category.

Ghostwire: Tokyo

Ghostwire: Tokyo might not be developer Tango Gameworks’ best work to date, but it certainly impresses with its rendition of modern day Tokyo. Everything from the dark alleys to the weirdly empty roads and neon lit shops lining the streets feature striking amounts of detail, which is further helped by generous use of ray tracing in the lighting department. Turning it on immediately increases the accuracy and resolution of reflections, and indirect lighting is also simulated more effectively than before – making for an even more immersive experience all around.

Marvel's Spider-Man also so a massive boost thanks to its PC release, while on the hardware front, the PS5 was the best-performing platform.

The NPD Group has revealed the hardware and software sales data in the United States for the month of August, and where the latter is concerned, Madden NFL 23 is, unsurprisingly, on top of the charts. As per NPD analyst Mat Piscatella, it has instantly become the fifth best-selling game of the year. This is the 23rd consecutive year that a Madden game has been the best-selling game in the United States in its launch month.

In second place is fellow new release Saints Row, in spite of its less-than-stellar critical reception. Another new release, Soul Hackers 2, has debuted in 15th place. MultiVersus and Xenoblade Chronicles 3, which debuted at No. 1 and No. 4 the previous month, have dropped down to No. 5 and No. 10 respectively.

Meanwhile, Marvel’s Spider-Man has seen a massive jump in sales thanks to the launch of its PC version, going from 84th place in July’s charts to third place in August. It’s the best-selling game on Steam in the United States for the month. Fellow PlayStation title Horizon Forbidden West slots in at No. 12, partially thanks to price promotion, and is the fourth best-selling game of the year so far.

On the hardware front, the PS5 is the best-selling platform for the month of August in terms of both units sold and revenue generated from sales. Year-to-date, the Nintendo Switch is the highest-selling console of 2022 so far in terms of units sold, while the PS5 leads where dollar sales are concerned.

Playing these games a second time around is more or less essential for having the complete experience.

There are games that you play once and forget about them after a short while. Then are the really good games; games that offer an experience that stay with you long after the credits roll. These are the games that you will come back to from time to time, and a good New Game+ experience is vital in making these revisits meaningful and fun. To that end, here are 15 games that offer the best new game+ experiences:

Bloodborne

Let’s get the most obvious one out of the way first. FromSoftware is one of the best when it comes to offering a great new game+ experience, so much so that many consider it to be the actual game. Once you defeat the final boss and unlock any of the available endings, you can start a new game + which retains your stats, weapons, and most items. And in turn, the enemies have more health, the bosses are more challenging, and shop prices are higher. In short, a re-run across this game’s desolate landscapes remains challenging a second time through – and is a perfect option for those who want to remain in the Hunter’s Dream for a while longer.

When pulled off well, QTEs can be amazing- here are a few such examples.

Quick time events have sort of become a thing of the past at this point. While once they were found in games ubiquitously, now, they’re rarely often used by developers. Of course, every once in a while, we do encounter QTEs in games, which is always something of a blast from the past, especially when they’re properly executed (which, as we all know, is easier said than done with QTEs). In this feature, that’s exactly what we’ll be looking at, as we list out some of our favourite QTEs from recent games (or, you know, relatively recent, at any rate).

KARAOKE (YAKUZA 0)

Anyone who’s spent a decent amount of time with iYakuza 0 (or most other Yakuza games, really) has most likely given its karaoke minigame a go as well. A rhythm game in all but name, these visits to karaoke bars are always a blast. Regardless of which difficulty you pick or even which song you pick, developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio has a talent for musical timing in QTEs. So much so that we’d almost like to see them make an entire rhythm game.

It's frankly astonishing how we can get so attached to the mere existence of a fictional character that their demise leaves us teary eyed.

It’s frankly amazing how we can get so attached to fictional characters that we start valuing their existence and vouching for everything they do. And unsurprisingly, when their untimely demise arrives – we are left with feelings of immeasurable grief and loss. On that note, here are 10 recent video game character deaths that made us really sad.

Please note that the feature list will contain major spoilers for The Last of Us Part 2, Red Dead Redemption 2, Batman: Arkham Knight, Ori and The Will of The Wisps, Horizon: Forbidden West, Ghost of Tsushima, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and Persona 5.

With that out of the way, let’s begin:

Joel – The Last of Us 2

Easily one of the most heartbreaking scenes of the generation, Joel’s surprise death held so much weight that it completely divided the fanbase into two halves. Over the course of the first game, Joel had undergone a transformation from one husk of a human being to a caring father figure for Ellie. The sequel opens up with the two growing distant from one another, and Ellie essentially wastes her last precious moments with Joel before he is tortured and ruthlessly murdered by Abby. What makes this more heart-wrenching is that Ellie remains in front of Joel the whole time, tirelessly screaming for mercy – to rather unsurprisingly, no avail. It’s a powerful scene that goes on to show the sheer brutality of The Last of Us‘ post-apocalyptic setting.

The likes of Marvel's Spider-Man, Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and Mortal Kombat 11 will also be available.

After relentless leaks and rumours, Sony has now officially unveiled the revamped PlayStation Plus service, which, in addition to absorbing PS Now, will also be offering several other benefits to subscribers across three tiers when it rolls out this June. The highlight of these benefits is a catalog of over 700 games- over 300 of these will be legacy PS1, PS2, PS3, and PSP titles (with PS3 titles only being available via cloud streaming), with around 400 being games from the PS4 and PS5’s libraries.

Details on what games exactly will fall into both those categories aren’t yet known, but Sony has given us a brief taste of what to expect where the PS4/PS5 catalog is concerned. Sony has confirmed that the lineup will include titles such as Death Stranding, God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Mortal Kombat 11, and Returnal.

Sony adds, “We’re working closely with our imaginative developers from PlayStation Studios and third-party partners to include some of the best gaming experiences available with a library that will be regularly refreshed. More details to come on the games we’ll have on our new PlayStation Plus service.”

The catalog of PS4 and PS5 titles will be accessible to PlayStation Plus Extra subscribers, which will cost $14.99 monthly / $39.99 quarterly / $99.99 yearly. Stay tuned for more details.
