Ahead of the highly anticipated Spidey sequel's launch, Insomniac has released a brief recap of the previous two games.

We’re hours away from the launch of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and with excitement surrounding the superhero sequel hitting a fever pitch, Insomniac Games and Sony have released a new video to help you prepare for its release, recapping the events of the previous two Spider-Man games developed by Insomniac.

Though it’s obviously not a comprehensive recap, it does serve as a solid refresher of the events of Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales (in very broad strokes, if nothing else), while also setting up the sequel by being framed as Miles and Peter trying to get his college essay started, which is something he’s struggling with as the game begins.

You can view the video below, or for a much more detailed and comprehensive summary, you can check out our own recap of the previous two games through here.

In our review of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, we awarded it a score of 9/10, saying, “Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is exactly the sort of sequel you’d want it to be, and though it stumbles here and there, ultimately, it improves on its predecessors in almost every way that matters most.” Read the full review through here.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will launch on October 20 for PS5.

Miles Morales' PC launch numbers are nearly five times worse off than Spider-Man's, which has a peak concurrent user count of over 66,000 players.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is the latest game in Sony’s line of PC releases, several of which have come this year itself, but upon release, it hasn’t attracted the sort of attention that Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered did when it released for the platform earlier this year.

As per SteamDB, Miles Morales saw a peak concurrent user count on Steam of 13,539 players, making for a largely tepid launch for the port. It’s also the third lowest Steam launch for a PlayStation game, above Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection(10,851 players at launch) and Sackboy: A Big Adventure (610 players at launch). By comparison, when Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered launch for PC earlier this year, it had a peak concurrent user count on Steam of over 66,000 players.

In our review of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales for PC, we awarded it a score of 9/10, saying, “Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, in acting as a short middle chapter between Marvel’s Spider-Man and its upcoming sequel, doesn’t really have the luxury to introduce radical new concepts that might turn the game on its head. Rather, it’s a fun, short romp through New York once again, but this time as a new protagonist. Its tightly-paced plot tells a great coming of age story for a new Spider-Man, and its greatest strength is the fun ensemble cast.” Read the full review through here.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is available on PC, PS5, and PS4.

Title

Peak Concurrent User Count on Steam (at Launch)

God of War

73,529

Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered

66,436

Horizon Zero Dawn

56,557

Days Gone

27,450

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales

13,539

Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection

10,851

Sackboy: A Big Adventure

610

Insomniac's standalone Spider-Man sequel has followed in the footsteps of the original and launch for PC.

Sony’s drive to bring more of its biggest PlayStation exclusives over to PC continues. Earlier this year, we saw Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered releasing for the platform, and now, it’s standalone follow-up (but not-quite-full-sequel) Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales has joined the party.

Like the former port, Miles Morales’ PC version has also been handled by PC-specialist Nixxes Software, which is, of course, now a first party PlayStation studio. On PC, Miles Morales boasts support for DLSS 3, unlocked frame rates, ultra-wide resolution, ray-traced reflections and shadows, and more. Check out what the game looks like on the platform in the launch trailer below.

In our review of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales’ PC port, we awarded it a score of 9/10, saying, “Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, in acting as a short middle chapter between Marvel’s Spider-Man and its upcoming sequel, doesn’t really have the luxury to introduce radical new concepts that might turn the game on its head.
The upcoming PC port will demand predictably high-end specs for its most visually impressive graphics presets.

It hasn’t been too long since the launch of Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered for PC, but of course, those who enjoyed Insomniac’s offerings on the platform will soon have more to dive into. Sony recently confirmed that Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales will be releasing for PC next month, and having previously revealed its minimum and recommended system requirements, has now detailed the specs for some higher presets as well.

The details come courtesy of port developer Nixxes Software on Twitter. For Very High settings (which will get you 4K/60 FPS), you’ll need either a GeForce RTX 3070 or a Radeon RX 6800 XT, along with either an i5-11400 or a Ryzen 5 3600. Meanwhile, for the Amazing Ray Tracing setup (1440p/60FPS or 4K/30 FPS), you’ll need either a GeForce RTX 3070 or a Radeon RX 6900 XT, along with either an i5-11600K or Ryzen 7 3700X.

Finally, for Ultimate Ray Tracing settings (4K/60 FPS), you’ll need either a GeForce RTX 3080 or a Radeon RX 6950 XT, along with either an i7-12700K or a Ryzen 9 5900X. For the Very High and Amazing Ray Tracing setups, you’ll also need a 16 GB of RAM, though that gets cranked up to 32 GB for Ultimate Ray Tracing specs.

You can check out the full details below.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales launches for PC on November 18.

These recent single player games offer some amazing boss fights that will stay with you long after the credits roll. And oh, you will find nothing from the Soulsborne genre here.

Everyone loves a good single-player game with dynamic boss fights that are a true test of player skill and mechanical prowess, but recent years haven’t been all that kind to such games with most games falling under this category are restrained to the roguelike or Soulslike genre. But even so, there are quite a few great single-player adventures with entertaining boss fights that have been recently released and today, we will be looking at a few of them:

Resident Evil Village

Resident Evil Village is like a rollercoaster ride that takes the player through different types of horrors. The game’s many different levels feature different kinds of spooks and scares that never fail to keep a player at the edge of their seats, and it’s all punctuated by surprisingly good boss fights – especially when compared to its direct predecessor Resident Evil 7. The fight against Heisenberg is especially bombastic, and so is the rooftop encounter against Lady Dimitrescu. It’s all capped off by a multi-phase boss fight against Mother Miranda, which is an excellent palate cleanser after the arduous journey of Ethan Winters through this village of horrors.

It's frankly astonishing how we can get so attached to the mere existence of a fictional character that their demise leaves us teary eyed.

It’s frankly amazing how we can get so attached to fictional characters that we start valuing their existence and vouching for everything they do. And unsurprisingly, when their untimely demise arrives – we are left with feelings of immeasurable grief and loss. On that note, here are 10 recent video game character deaths that made us really sad.

Please note that the feature list will contain major spoilers for The Last of Us Part 2, Red Dead Redemption 2, Batman: Arkham Knight, Ori and The Will of The Wisps, Horizon: Forbidden West, Ghost of Tsushima, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and Persona 5.

With that out of the way, let’s begin:

Joel – The Last of Us 2

Easily one of the most heartbreaking scenes of the generation, Joel’s surprise death held so much weight that it completely divided the fanbase into two halves. Over the course of the first game, Joel had undergone a transformation from one husk of a human being to a caring father figure for Ellie. The sequel opens up with the two growing distant from one another, and Ellie essentially wastes her last precious moments with Joel before he is tortured and ruthlessly murdered by Abby. What makes this more heart-wrenching is that Ellie remains in front of Joel the whole time, tirelessly screaming for mercy – to rather unsurprisingly, no avail. It’s a powerful scene that goes on to show the sheer brutality of The Last of Us‘ post-apocalyptic setting.

The likes of Marvel's Spider-Man, Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and Mortal Kombat 11 will also be available.

After relentless leaks and rumours, Sony has now officially unveiled the revamped PlayStation Plus service, which, in addition to absorbing PS Now, will also be offering several other benefits to subscribers across three tiers when it rolls out this June. The highlight of these benefits is a catalog of over 700 games- over 300 of these will be legacy PS1, PS2, PS3, and PSP titles (with PS3 titles only being available via cloud streaming), with around 400 being games from the PS4 and PS5’s libraries.

Details on what games exactly will fall into both those categories aren’t yet known, but Sony has given us a brief taste of what to expect where the PS4/PS5 catalog is concerned. Sony has confirmed that the lineup will include titles such as Death Stranding, God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Mortal Kombat 11, and Returnal.

Sony adds, “We’re working closely with our imaginative developers from PlayStation Studios and third-party partners to include some of the best gaming experiences available with a library that will be regularly refreshed. More details to come on the games we’ll have on our new PlayStation Plus service.”

The catalog of PS4 and PS5 titles will be accessible to PlayStation Plus Extra subscribers, which will cost $14.99 monthly / $39.99 quarterly / $99.99 yearly. Stay tuned for more details.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus debuts on top of the software charts while Rainbow Six Extraction comes in at No. 9.

The NPD Group has released data for software and hardware sales in the United States for January 2022 (via GamesBeat), and there are some interesting developments on both fronts. On the software front, unsurprisingly, Pokemon Legends: Arceus has topped the charts, just as it did in the UK and in Japan. Recently, Nintendo announced that the game sold over 6.5 million units in its first week. Meanwhile, fellow Pokemon games, the recently released Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl come in at No. 11 in the NPD charts.

Rainbow Six Extraction is the only other new release on the charts, coming in at No. 9. Both Monster Hunter Rise and God of War are also back in the charts at No. 3 and No. 3 respectively, and both saw significant jumps thanks to their PC releases. For context, in December, Monster Hunter Rise was ranked 94 in the charts, while God of War was at No. 146.

Another PlayStation game that’s continuing to enjoy impressive sales is Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. The game consistently ranks high in sales charts in the US and in other regions, and it takes sixth place in the January NPD charts. In fact, it is the third best-selling Sony-published game to date in terms of dollar sales, behind only Marvel’s Spider-Man and the aforementioned God of War (2018). As of July last year, Miles Morales had sold over 6.5 million units worldwide- it should be interesting to see where its lifetime sales stand right now.

On the hardware front, the PS5 was the leading console in the US for the month of January, best-selling in terms of both dollar sales and unit sales. Xbox Series X/S ranked second on both fronts- which means the Switch had a relatively more low-key month, ranking third in both dollar and unit sales.

You can check out the full NPD software charts for January 2022 below.

Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales retakes the top spot, while The Last of Us Part 2 re-enters the top 10 in third place.

The latest weekly data for retail sales in the UK is in (via GamesIndustry), and there’s been some eventful shuffling around near the top of the charts. Biomutant was the big new release last week, and though critical reception for the open world game has been mixed, sales have been solid, with the game debuting in second place. 71% of its sales came on the PS4, 28% on Xbox One, and the remaining 1% on PC.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales climbed back to the top of the charts. The PS5 saw a restock in hardware, with the game’s PS5 version seeing a 175% boost in sales. Meanwhile, thanks to heavy discounts, the PS4 version also saw a boost of 104% in sales. The Last of Us Part 2 also similarly saw discounts, with Naughty Dog’s game re-entering the top 10 and taking the third spot in the charts.

Resident Evil Village, which topped charts last week, dropped down to No. 4. Miitopia, which was in second place last week, dropped down to No. 9. Meanwhile, familiar faces like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla (which also benefited from sales, enjoying a 196% boost in sales), Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, FIFA 21, and Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury are also in the top 10, unsurprisingly.

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition dropped down to No. 12, while Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne HD Remaster debuted in thirteenth place, with 55% sales on the Nintendo Switch and 45% on the PS4.

Subnautica: Below Zero debuts in fifth place.

May has seen notable activity as far as major game releases are concerned. Mass Effect: Legendary Edition was the big new release last week, and unsurprisingly, it has debuted on top of the UK retail charts, as per data provided by Gfk (via GamesIndustry), with 68% of its sales coming on the PS4. It’s only managed about half of what Resident Evil Village sold last week, but it’s worth noting that these charts only account for physical sales.

Meanwhile, the aforementioned Resident Evil Village has dropped down to second place following a 59% drop in sales. Subnautica: Below Zero was yet another new release, and it debuted in fifth place, with 46% sales on PS4, 36% on Xbox One, and 17% on PS5. Meanwhile, thanks to a long overdue restocking of the PS5, several games have seen boosts in sales, with Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales seeing the most significant one. An 88% increase has brought it straight to third place.

Though unusually there’s no Switch games in the top 5, the rest of the charts are dominated by Switch titles, including Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury and New Pokemon Snap, and perennial sellers like Minecraft, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
