These 15 expansions are simply unmissable for fans that wish to have the complete experience.

While post-launch expansion packs aren’t as popular as they once used to be, every now and then we get fantastic DLCs that add so much to the base experience that they become an essential part of the package itself. Some might add a crucial new mechanic, some might tell independent stories, while others might fix key criticisms of the base game. And with this feature, we will look at 15 such examples of expansions that you need to check out.

The Witcher 3 – Hearts Of Stone

The Witcher 3 is a massive game that’s brimming with quality content that would keep one engaged for hours on end, but playing the base game alone isn’t the complete experience. Both of the game’s post-launch expansions including Hearts of Stone are equally good in their own right, but we are going with the latter of the DLCs for this list simply because of the fantastic story. Set in an entirely new section of the map called No Man’s Land, Hearts of Stone is all about Geralt trying to defeat the immortal Olgierd von Everec. Hearts of Stone also introduces new Monsters, side quests, and new combat mechanics like Runewords which come together to make this expansion a surprisingly fresh experience that’s unmissable for fans of The Witcher.

Prepare for the Legendary Edition by reliving the series' best moments.

It’s been almost 13 years since Mass Effect 3 was released. There have been no true follow-ups (we don’t talk about Andromeda, not that it counts anyway), until BioWare revealed at The Game Awards 2020 that it was working on the next chapter. Before that, however, we’ll have a chance to revisit the original trilogy with Mass Effect: Legendary Edition releasing in May. It brings together the original trilogy, complete with almost all of the DLC, in 4K and with big visual enhancements.

In anticipation of the same, let’s take a look at some of the best moments from the series. Major spoilers abound so beware.

Sovereign Speaks – Mass Effect

Throughout Mass Effect, Saren is the main driving villain, utilizing a Reaper ship to further his agenda. It’s only when Shepard arrives on Virmire and interfaces with said ship that the truth is revealed. Sovereign speaks, proclaiming that before the Reapers, you are “nothing” and that they are “the end of everything.” Unknown to us at the time, this first encounter and the news of the Reapers returning would herald events to come.

Reapers, Specters, Architects and much more have defined our wars in the Mass Effect series.

Say what you will about Bioware’s handling of the franchise, especially with its most recent entry, but Mass Effect remains highly decorated. The original trilogy delivered tight, action-packed adventures with memorable characters and missions. And though Andromeda wasn’t perfect, it had its share of highlights. Of course, memorable boss battles are included so let’s take a look at the 15 best boss fights throughout the entire Mass Effect series.

Kai Leng (Final Battle) – Mass Effect 3

A constant thorn in Shepard’s side, you battle Kai Leng one final time in the Illusive Man’s headquarters. Leng can be quick and closes the gap to deal heavy melee attacks that are fatal if you don’t mash the melee button. Fighting from a distance helps but Leng will also employ Nemeses and Assassins to back him up. Bringing EDI and Liara can make the battle easier and sooner than later, Leng will fall.
