This week’s free titles on the Epic Games Store are now available, and include some familiar names. IronOak Games’ rogue-like RPG For the King and 4A Games’ Metro: Last Light Redux can be claimed for free until February 11th. All you need is an Epic Games account and the Epic Games Launcher to play them.

For the King essentially takes place in a procedurally generated world with different quests and events to complete. Combat is turn-based and there’s even co-op for up to three other players. With several free DLC packs and an intriguing aesthetic, it’s definitely worth checking out. As for Metro: Last Light Redux, it’s the second title in the FPS franchise and features revamped visuals and quality of life improvements.

After completing it, those keen on continuing the story can check out Metro Exodus, also available on the Epic Games Store. Next week’s free game will be Halcyon 6: Lightspeed Edition, a strategy RPG focused on crew management, random events and much more. It’s from the team behind the recent Star Renegades and may be worth looking into for some FTL: Faster Than Light-style gameplay.

Massive Damage’s Star Renegades offered a better look at its gameplay in a recent video, showcasing the kind of squad-based RPG gameplay that fans of the genre can expect. However, the new cinematic trailer goes a different route. It’s about Wynn Syphex, one of the key rebels, and what the fight against the Imperium means for her. Check it out below.

The rogue-lite nature of the game means that players will have to restart runs when dying. The twist is that Imperium foes will evolve and devise their own means of fighting back. As the campaign rolls on, you could end up fighting with their past family (as seems to be the case with Wynn).

In development for Xbox One, PS4, PC and Nintendo Switch, Star Renegades is slated to release this year. Along with procedurally generated missions, players can look forward to “dozens” of alternate characters and a variety of futuristic locales. Stay tuned for more details in the coming months.

Indie developer Massive Damage and publisher Raw Fury debuted new gameplay footage of their upcoming turn based strategy RPG Star Renegades at the IGN expo, giving an extended look at the game – more specifically, its combat – in roughly 8 minutes of footage. The impressive 2D art style also shines in the video- check it out below.

Star Renegades features emergent missions and and a Nemesis-style system – called the Adversary system – that sees enemies evolving, ranking up, and growing increasingly more capable. The reactive combat system involves combos, interrupts, and explosive attacks. Meanwhile, procedurally generated missions and evolving enemies promise to encourage multiple playthroughs. Plenty of this is shown off in the new gameplay video below.

Star Renegades is currently in development for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC some time this year, but doesn’t yet have a specific release date nailed down. Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more updates.

Halcyon 6: Starbase Commander launched last year on PC, and went on to do reasonably well for itself. After a year’s worth of feedback, developers Massive Damage are returning with Halcyon 6: Lightspeed Edition, a revamped, overhauled version of the game that mixes a lot of things up.

Among the things being changed are the game’s progression for its campaign, new loadout screen and better customization options, a new difficulty mode, and overall redone UI from the ground up, to keep things more legible than they were in the original game. And the best part is, if you own the original game already, you get Lightspeed Edition for absolutely free.
