Automaton’s Mavericks: Proving Grounds is one of the more ambitious Battle Royale titles in development, featuring 400 players competing in an enormous world for survival. The newest trailer at the PC Gaming Show 2018 showcases some of the action, and it looks pretty fast-paced. Check it out below.

As you’ll notice, it’s possible to encounter wildfire in the forest while battling other enemies. That wildfire can spread and the world itself as described as “living and breathing”. Wildlife will react to your presence and depending on how players react with the environment, you’ll be able to track them down more effectively.

Mavericks: Proving Grounds won’t just have 400 players – there are plans to have 1000 players in five man squads across a 16×16 km map. Suffice to say, despite MMO plans, the Battle Royale part will be the most intriguing aspect. The official site for the game is now live and closed beta events are planned for Summer 2018. Mavericks: Proving Grounds is a game that is going to release in two phases- a battle royale mode with 400 players followed by a full game release next year. While we got to see the reveal trailer for the game some time ago, we didn’t actually get to see any gameplay footage from the game. Now, you might have a chance to see the game for yourself as the registration for the game’s beta is now available.

You can register for the beta by going to the game’s website. As of now, we have no information regarding when the beta will actually start but it should hopefully be soon, considering that the game is set to release later this year. This is certainly a very ambitious game with its 400 player battle royale mode and it could be a delight to play if it works out well.

As of now, Mavericks: Proving Grounds is set to release towards the end of the year for the PC but the game will also make its way to the Xbox One and PS4 later on.

Automaton Games, the UK based developer, will be doing something hugely ambitious and unprecedented with its next game- a 400 player battle royale title. So, think PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds or Fortnite, but four times as many players. Yikes.

You can see a brand new teaser trailer for the game- though this is a bit disappointing, since it doesn’t actually show us much of the game, as much as giving us an idea for how it will look. The actual gameplay isn’t shown to us here.

Mavericks will actually release in two phases- a 400 player battle royale, followed by the full game which launches next year, and will feature 1000 players concurrently in “a high fidelity world”.

‘This year, we’re coming out with our competitive, Battle Royale-style mode, which we hope will show that there is so much more for that genre than what people have seen today,” Automaton told PC Gamer. ‘How much more we can do with the game world and the [Battle Royale] game mode as a whole.’

Whether or not Mavericks can break the stranglehold that PUBG and Fortnite have over the genre is something that remains to be seen, but what we are seeing right now seems to be encouraging enough. Let’s see how it goes.
