Crosses 2 million in sales for Japan in three weeks.

This week’s Media Create Sales have now been revealed and surprise, Capcom’s Monster Hunter 4 is still on top along with the 3DS XL. The sales are indicative of units sold between September 23rd to 29th, and Monster Hunter 4 managed to ship 213,078 units in that period for a total of 2,402,077 units over its lifetime.

Meanwhile, The Legend of Heroes: Sen no Kiseki debuted for the PlayStation Vita, selling 81,622 units while Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate sold 80,498 units in its first week. The Legend of Heroes: Sen no Kiseki on the PS3 managed to sell 67,718 units as it debuted with the portable version, while From Software’s Armored Core: Verdict Day debuted on the PS3 with 59,184 units sold this week.

Surprisingly, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD didn’t have a strong opening and debuted this week with 30,264 units sold. Considering the state of the Wii U worldwide, the fact that high profile titles aren’t quite doing gangbusters is disturbing (with Pikmin 3 and The Wonderful 101 coming to mind).

At least it was a good week for the 3DS, the XL having sold 93,757 (though last week’s number was 118,400) units and the regular version selling 40,487 units (with last week seeing 40,988 units sold).

We have the latest Media Create Sales data from Japan and it seems the price cut has worked for the Vita. The price was cut at a Vita event where SCEJ president Hiroshi Kawano revealed the price drop.

The WiFI and 3G version of the system costs 19000 yen and it looks like the price drop has worked.

The Vita sold more than last week and such sales would be pleasing to Sony. It still has to sell consistently at this range to get game developers to develop for the system.

Sony hasn’t announced a price drop for the US and EU regions yet.

The system failed to top the chart for this week, and the combined 3DS sales are higher. You can check out the complete sales chart below.

3DS = 77.439

PS3 = 25.725

PSP = 11.171

The Vita received a large sales boost last week in Japan due to the release of Persona 4 Golden, which ended up selling pretty well too. However, it didn’t manage to boost the Vita for long as sales have fallen back to around 10k ish. It was apparent that the Vita will not sustain the momentum unless they release something unique for it, which also is suited for the mass market.

Meanwhile, the 3DS received a modest bump but is still at the top. The star of this week is Pokemon Black & White 2, which sold 1.6 million units. It didn’t manage to bump the DS either, which sold 1500 units and is pretty much non-existent in Japan. Dragon Quest Monsters Terry’s Wonderland 3D also received a huge drop this week.

Who would have thought a Gundam Seed game would actually be in the top 5 of a Media Create Sales chart. It has also propelled the Vita to above 10k this week.

The 3DS as usual tops the charts with 65k consoles sold. PS3 follows and after that the Vita with 13k sales. Tokyo Jungle sells 110k which is a huge surprise, as the it was generally expected that the game will sell 30k odd considering it’s a new IP published by Sony.

Dragon’s Dogma sells 28k this week with 430k units sold. Capcom earlier had a 1 million target for the game in Japan and it doesn’t seem like it is going to hit that target any time soon. It should eventually get to 600k sales, which is pretty good for a new IP.
