And he is doing alright for himself.

It’s been over three years since David Hayter, the original voice for Snake was replaced with Kiefer Sutherland in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Since then Hayter has expressed his disappointment over and over again. Finally in an interview with Youtuber YongYea, Hayter revealed why he has been expressing his feelings about Kojima and the way he was let go.

“The reason I brought up my feelings about Kojima and about the whole thing is because I want voice actors to be able to stand up for themselves. I can stand up for myself in ways actors can’t because I don’t need the work. I have got lots of money, I have this other amazing career.”

“You know, somebody wrote me this latter and I got really mad at him, saying “If you are going to keep doing this you are never gonna get work as an actor again,” and I am like a. That is not true. b. Shut up! and c. I’d be okay if I never have to work again. I mean I would never want that but I have got more acting work now that I know what to do with. So basically that is why I said what I said. I wanted everyone to understand what the situation was so that other voice actors are in the same situation and they are threatened with being fired for whatever reason, they are asking for more money or they want more publicity or whatever that they know how it can play out, where they can be brave and where they should be prudent. But beyond that I am very happy with my experience with Metal Gear. I am thrilled with how my story ended.”

So it seems like even though Hayter loves the series and would love to come back as Snake, he really does need that job to make a living.

He also shared his thoughts on how he felt when he was let go from the role of Snake.

“It was kind of shitty and kind of disrespectful. I kind of feel that I did a lot for the games but again, it’s not personal, it’s business. So for all the people who are like he is upset or unemployed, none of that is true.”

Whether Hayter will return in a future Metal Gear is something that is an unknown at this stage, however fans can rejoice with this upcoming Metal Gear museum project. And yes, it involves David Hayter,

Against all odds, it looks like Konami finally got that multiplayer Metal Gear goodness they so badly wanted going- Metal Gear Online for Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain seems to have developed a consistent, active community, and it seems to have been a profitable venture for Konami. You know what they say- the third time is the charm.

Next week, Metal gear Online gets Update 1.11, which adds a new Survival mode to the game. Survival mode is closest to traditional multiplayer shooters, and sees two teams of six players each go head to head in an attempt to be the first to achieve a streak of five round victories.

With the mode due next week, we received a brand new video today, that showcases exactly how it will work. There really isn’t much to it- but if you want to see how a traditional shooter can be adapted to the Metal Gear mold, I think you will find it interesting.

The Cloaked in Silence DLC is now available for Metal Gear Online, the online multiplayer component of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain. Check out the launch trailer below which details all the content you’ll be getting.

Along with Quiet a buddy character, with her own special abilities, the DLC will feature three new locations – Coral Complex, Azure Mountain and Rust Palace. A free mission is also being provided to all players called Sabotage and you can briefly see it in the trailer below.

That’s not including Survival which challenges teams to garner five wins in a row for a chance at rewards. All this, along with Cloaked in Silence, is available for Xbox One, PS4, PS3, Xbox 360 and PC today. More content is apparently coming to Metal Gear Online in the future (no update on Chapter 3, unfortunately) so stay tuned for more information in the coming months. Meanwhile, let us know whether you’ll be getting the DLC in the comments.

The Quiet-based expansion will be out in less than two weeks.

Konami’s Metal Gear Online will be receiving its “Cloaked in Silence” expansion, which adds a new special character with Quiet, on March 15th. The expansion also brings support for “appeal” emotes and three new maps. A new mode Sabotage is being added for free when the expansion releases.

Another new mode called Survival will be heading to Metal Gear Online on April 7th. The mode is intriguing and odd – player teams must compete for win streaks but they only get ten tries a week with the challenge resetting every Tuesday. If you purchase the Cloaked in Silence expansion though, you’ll receive unlimited tries. It sounds odd and kind of shady but hey, it’s a way to sell downloads for the expansion.

What are your thoughts on Metal Gear Online and the Cloaked in Silence expansion? Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned for more details on the upcoming Survival mode.

New maps, a new Unique character and more coming to multiplayer.

Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain‘s online component Metal Gear Online will be receiving a significant new expansion this March. The Cloaked in Silence expansion will feature Quiet as a new Unique character to act as your buddy and it will also come with three new maps.

These include Coral Complex, taking place on Motherbase with open areas and claustrophobic corners; Rust Palace, set in Afghanistan and spanning a multi-level building which is great for sniping; and Azure Mountain, an open plain with a few buildings and a large rock called the Cradle of Spirits.

There’s also the new “Appeal” action which basically bestows different character poses. You can set up to five different poses via different packs like the Basic Appeal Pack, Hero Appeal Pack, Dance Appeal Pack and Battle Appeal Pack, each for €1.99. The Cloaked in Silence pack will be for €3.99. Those who aren’t interested in spending money will receive a new competitive mission with Sabotage where you have to disable enemy missiles within the allotted time.

Kojima Productions’ Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain has finally received Metal Gear Online for its PC version. The news was announced by Konami, which previously had the online component in beta last week. The beta was subsequently taken offline to patch an exploit that’s since been fixed.

Metal Gear Online will continue to receive updates in the coming months just as the base single-player game has been constantly updated and patched since its launch. Those who want a good reason to hop into the online component can net 3000 Gear Points if they play a single match from January 19th to 26th. You may not know what these are when you start playing but you’ll have 3000 of them.

What other updates could Metal Gear Online see in the coming months especially with regards to events, new maps, modes, etc.? We’ll have to wait and find out but in the meantime, let us know your thoughts on the online component finally being available for PC users.

Latest update makes changes to weapons among other things.

Hideo Kojima may be gone from Konami but the publisher is still pushing support for Metal Gear Online, the multiplayer mode of Metal Gear Soldi 5: The Phantom Pain.

Konami recently revealed on Twitter that, “New DLC planned for MGO, including new maps, Survival, and more! Further details to come.”

A new update is also currently available for the game which reduces the amount of XP required for leveling up and adjusts weapon values. For instance, the stun grenade will no longer blind you if you’re not facing it. The shotgun has also had its knockback range increased while the readying speed for machine guns and the SERVAL AMR-7 have been reduced.

It also seems that Konami will be looking to make reviving team-mates slightly more difficult in a future update.

Some pretty far reaching balance changes.

The upcoming November and December updates for Metal Gear Online, the online multiplayer mode for Konami’s Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, have been further detailed by the developers on the game’s official site. The changes mostly seem to be aimed at fixing balance issues with the game.

“As a byproduct of increasing the stamina and health of the Enforcer class, we likewise increased the headshot damage output of the following weapons: UN-ARC, RENOV-ICKX TP, WU S.PISTOL and WU S333. This allows the Infiltrator and Scout classes a better advantage in taking out heavily defended players such as Enforcers via a well-placed headshot,” they said. “Walker Gear gatling guns, and all submachine guns, as well as the AM MRS-4 have had their general damage reduced. This means that lethal weapons mainly used by the Infiltrator class deal less damage overall.”

There are other changes, too. “Walker Gears and Anti-air emplacements have had their damage received from assault rifles, sniper rifles, machine guns, shotguns, and rocket launchers increased. From the aforementioned, sniper rifles and machine guns, in particular, deal increased damage against Walker Gears. Be sure to try out these weapon types and experiment with the recent value changes.”

Finally, more custom matchmaking options will be coming to the game as well. “We have received a lot of additional feature requests for the CREATE MATCH option including: “ability to set Walker Gear availability”, “ability to set variable Weather conditions” and the “option to add a Host Match Description”. These new features are planned to be available in our next update to Metal Gear Online.”

Metal Gear Online is available now on Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, and PS4. A PC release of this is planned for early next year.

With a total prize pool of $12,000.

Looks like Konami is pretty damn serious about Metal Gear Online, the online multiplayer component of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Today, they announced that, in association with ESL, they are launching the Metal Gear Online Global Championship starting in December, giving fans of the multiplayer stealth action shooter a chance to compete for cash prizes.

Players of Metal Gear Online’s competitive multiplayer mode will now have the opportunity to showcase their sneaking skills within the Metal Gear Online community. The league will hold weekly online tournaments worldwide starting December 1 through to February 29, 2016, with competitions being held in four regions- North America, Latin America, Europe and Asia/Australia.

The total cash pool for this championship is $12,000, with $1,000 being rewarded per region per month. In addition, participants in the league will be able to earn points to build their professional rank to become the next legendary soldier.

Are you going to be trying your hand at this?

Pretty extensive update, this.

The upcoming Metal Gear Online patch 1.01 will apparently include quite a few tweaks, fixes, and additions to the online interpretation of Metal Gear gameplay- today Konami’s official MGO twitter account summarized some of the upcoming adjustments and fixes.

The changes include various bug fixes and balance adjustments, which should hopefully contribute towards keeping players returning to the mode. It includes a lot of changes, particularly to the Infiltrator class, which has completely dominated the metagame so far.The changes include:

CQC Damage – currently a 1-hit or 1-throw CQC move can stun opponents. We’ll be revising the damage required to knockout an opponent in order to prevent this.

CQC Range – the CQC range currently covers a wide left/right range. We’ll be narrowing the range and likewise, removing the CQC icon to encourage more skillful use of CQC moves.

Our telemetry data reveals that the infiltrator class is responsible for the vast majority of kills. The infiltrator class was originally intended to excel at stealth, but be at a disadvantage in direct conflict but that is currently not the case. To remedy the issue, health and stamina, along with the damage done by certain weapons will be adjusted.

The infiltrator’s stealth camo in particular gives them a disproportionate advantage over other classes. To achieve better balance, stealth camo will temporarily be disabled when taking damage. Battery life will also be decreased.

Players using stealth camo are extremely hard to mark when when using the Int-Scope/Binoculars. Therefore, the time required to focus on a player using stealth camo, in order to mark them, has been shortened. We’ll make an exception for stealth camo for the attacking team when playing “CLOAK AND DAGGER” which will continue to operate as-is.

Saving teammates being fultoned by a player with the “FULTON+” Lv.2 ability was prohibitively difficult. Therefore, speed for “FULTON+” Lv.2 will be reduced to give players a realistic chance to be rescued.

CQC will be adjusted and better considered a special skill for the infiltrator class. The Infiltrator class was not intended to use heavy firepower, but access to certain weapons upset this balance. Therefore, some machine guns and launchers will no longer be usable by Infiltrators. To offset this, shotguns will be made exclusive to Infiltrators.

The E.LOCATOR is also being made exclusive to the Scout class and will no longer be available to Infiltrators.

So… basically, if you play as an infiltrator, the entire game has changed.
