A good start for the series' new sojourn on PC.

Although Metal Gear started out on PCs (the first two games were on the MSX computers in Japan), and even the Metal Gear Solid subseries has been on PC before (Metal gear Solid was ported to PC back in the day), that was all so long ago that the release of Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain on the platform was practically the series’ debut on the new platform.

And just how has Ground Zeroes performed on PC? Well, according to Konami, sales of the PC version of Ground Zeroes were ‘solid’ (pun intended?).

Konami did not give us an exact number, nor did they update us on the game’s overall lifetime sales across all platforms (the last time they talked about them, the game had sold over a million worldwide, which is very good for what amounts to a glorified demo- a great, fun demo, but a demo nonetheless).

Metal Gear Solid: The Phantom Pain, the fifth entry in the saga, is due out on Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, and PC later this year some time.

Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes PC modding has began.

PC gamers like myself enjoy nothing more than digging into the data of a game, only to emerge again with improvements that can be made to games like Metal Gear Solid. One such group of nosey gamers went routing around inside the Ground Zeroes code and found that it was possible to expand the games field of view to a scale that suits you personally.

On top of that, they found a way to unlock the games frame rate in its entirety. Whilst the PC port of Ground Zeroes was stunning, the omission of an unlockable frame rate was a bit of a glaring issue that cause some fans a little bit of grief, though nothing that harmed the gameplay experience.

You can find everything you need to know, and more in the ever reliable Steam Community pages which you can visit here without needing to make an account. Though the chances are good you already have one.

Is the game coming out in 2 months?

Hideo Kojima, as you’re very much aware, is famous for his bizarre game plots and complex explanations for simple things. With that in mind, it’s surprising to find that some retailers, which include the Microsoft Store and Rakuten have the game listed as being available at retail on February 24th 2015, despite the fact that Kojima hasn’t made any announcements regarding the games official release date.

He has, however, in the past confirmed a 2015 release date. The image above was posted by a Redditor with the following message, “I work at a popular retail store as their inventory manager. I always check to see if the date changes periodically and it was always 12/31/2014. Today it switched and i think I cracked the code.”

Though it’s entirely possible that the date, which is a Tuesday, is just a place holder and that it holds no weight. But it wouldn’t be unlike Kojima to make a surprise announcement, just to keep you on your toes. Naturally, take all of this with a huge heaping handful of salt. Further more, following the release of Ground Zeroes, The Phantom Pain is on Steam as “Coming Soon”.

Plus, bonuses for The Phantom Pain revealed.

The PC version of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes is finally almost here, and if you were curious about the game’s pricing- remember, Ground Zeroes’ original pricing on the consoles back when it released on them earlier this year was a fair bit controversial, and caused quite a stir, at least to begin with- then rest assured, it seems like it will be reasonably priced.

Kojima and Konami have announced that the PC version of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes will cost only $20. For a game that technically can be ‘completed’ in forty minutes, that might still look like a lot, but Ground Zeroes is exemplarily well made, plays excellently, and actually has a lot if replay value.

In addition to this, multiple benefits were also revealed for the upcoming Phantom Pain:

When you play Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes on PC, there are a variety of benefits that will transfer over to the PC version of The Phantom Pain as well- these include the Mother Base Staff, where if you rescue prisoners or unique characters in Ground Zeroes, you can use them as Mother Base staff. In addition, the costume Snake wears in MGSV:GZ will be available in MGSV:TPP.

Sounds like a good way to encourage PC players to continue playing on PC.

Metal Gear Solid V is coming to PC (both versions, the prequel Ground Zeroes that was released earlier this year on consoles, as well as the main course that hits next year, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain), and a lot of people are, understandably enough, curious about how Kojima and his demanding technical perfectionism will utilize everything that the PC has to offer over the much weaker consoles.

If you have wanted to see the difference between the PC and PlayStation 4 (the best looking console version) of Meta Gear Solid V for yourself, then these GIFs above will show you exactly that. Click on one and watch as it cycles through an animation that transitions from the PC version of the game to the PS4 one, and decide for yourself what you think.

Has Kojima done the PC justice? Or is it a perfunctory PC port, as is the case with so many Japanese games?

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes will be coming to the PC next month, and as one of the evangelists for PC gaming and the inherent superiority that it presents over consoles from a technical perspective, Nvidia has gone ahead and posted comparison shots of the game as seen running on the PlayStation 4 and on the PC. (It probably also helps that all the consoles are powered by AMD, so by downplaying consoles, Nvidia also downplays AMD, its direct competitor in the GPU market).

You can check out the full range of screenshots here, but the difference is definitely noticeable, and the PC version comes out on the top every single time. It appears that the PC version of the game benefits from a lot of graphical flair and additions, including:

60fps

Additional deferred lights per scene

Additional shadows per scene

Higher-resolution render targets

Higher-resolution shadows

Increased detail over distances

NVIDIA SLI Multi-GPU support

Options to adjust seven graphics features (Effects, Lighting, Screen Filtering, Shadows, Texture Filtering, Textures)

Resolution support up to and including 3840×2160 (4K)

Screen Space Reflections

Now we await the PC requirements.

It’s still sort of surreal that Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes (and The Phantom Pain) is coming to PC- not because the PC hasn’t had Metal Gear games before (the original Metal Gear Solid game got a PC port, after all, and the very first Metal Gear game was built for the MSX computer standard in Japan), but because to see that kind of high profile support for modern PC gaming from Japanese developers is always good.

So that’s the good stuff- if you wanted more proof that this is actually happening, don’t worry, because we’ll soon be getting an announcement on the requirements from your PC rig if you want to run the game.

But that said, there’s some bad news as well, because of course there is, it’s a Japanese game getting a delayed port on PC. The good news is that the game will have a locked framerate on PC- that’s pretty good. It will be locked to 60FPS rather than 30FPS.

So there is that, at least. Ground Zeroes launches on PC on December 18.

Now you can get the demo for much cheaper!

Let’s be honest here, for as well as Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes played – and it played very well, single handedly restoring multiple people’s faith in the upcoming Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain – it was still only a glorified demo, and in that sense, a grossly overpriced one. Well, today Konami took the first step towards alleviating the issue of the game’s length by reducing the price to $20- it’s still a paid demo, but at least now the price can be digested a bit more easily.

Of note- this price cut applies only to the physical copies across Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, and PS4. The digital copies on Xbox One and PS4 are still $30 (although the digital copies for Xbox 360 and PS3 were always $20). Basically, no need to make this so complicated, if you want the game for cheap, just buy it physical. It’s a good rule of thumb to have all the time anyway.

Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes released earlier this year, and was praised for its breathtaking reinvention of the Metal Gear Solid gameplay. It was ultimately a success, selling over 1 million copies worldwide. A PC version of the game is bound for Steam, due to release some time in December.

Two things are always assured with a new flagship LittleBigPlanet game- lots of creativity from the players, and some nice new crossover costumes to mess around with. And while it remains to be seen just how much creativity with community will display with LittleBigPlanet 3 and its powerful new editing tools, it looks like it’s getting a headcstart as far as crossover content goes, because it was announced today that the game will be getting two new crossover Costume Packs- one for Metal Gear Solid V, and the other for Sony’s own The Order 1886.

The Metal gear Solid: Ground Zeroes costume pack will be releasing in November, while The Order costume pack is slated for February next year (which is when The Order itself is projected to launch).

LittleBigPlanet 3 launches this November for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, and it looks simply delightful. Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more coverage and information.

It's pretty awesome.

In honor of the just released Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes, which is actually surprisingly actually good in spite of all initial impressions pointing to the contrary, Konami has released a new video to celebrate the launch, and to thank the legions of Metal Gear fans around the world that have made the series as successful as it is today.

The new live action video sees Kojima infiltrate Micromania, and is actually really, really good- it’s really worth a watch for all fans of the Metal Gear series (although if you aren’t a fan, or have been out of the loop, you might just end up thoroughly confused).

Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes is the prologue to the upcoming Metal gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Think of it as the appetizer to the main course- it does an adequate job of selling you on the new direction that the games are about to go in from a gameplay perspective, so if you are curious or worried about The Phantom pain, give Ground Zeroes a gander.
