Producer Noriaki Okamura asks fans to "wait just a little longer", but says the project is shaping up to be "something enjoyable."

The latest Metal Gear Production Hotline at Tokyo Game Show 2025 offered a more extensive look at Fox Hunt, the new multiplayer mode for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. However, as is usually the case, the development team fielded questions from fans, including one about Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2.

Producer Noriaki Okamura confirmed (translation via Kuwabara357) that it’s “moving forward properly” and that it’s “certainly taken quite a while now.” “Since we called the first installment ‘Vol. 1,’ it’s only natural to expect a second one, and that’s what we said years ago. But, as we’ve repeated several times, we are making it.”

Vol. 2 has been in the works while the team worked on Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, but Okamura isn’t quite ready to share any new information about it. “At the right timing, we’d like to share with you all not only about its progress but also the direction going forward. I’m sorry, it feels like I always have to say this…but please wait just a little longer.

“How long ‘a little longer’ actually means… well, it’s hard to say. But the project is moving forward properly, and we believe it’s shaping up to be something enjoyable, really. So please wait just a bit more, more information is coming.”

While there’s much speculation about what Vol. 2 could offer, many fans hope that it includes Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. Released in 2008, it caps off Solid Snake’s long journey in an epic finale. Unfortunately, it’s only playable on PS3 and remains the only Metal Gear title to not be re-released on other platforms. Whether it happens or not, stay tuned for more updates and check out our review for Vol. 1.

On PC, PS5, PS4 Pro, and Xbox Series X, Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 can now run at an upscaled 4K courtesy of the new Adjusted Mode.

For the majority of Metal Gear fans, the upcoming Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is taking up most of our attention, but but Konami is continuing to update and improve Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 with patches as well. Another one of those has now released in the form of update 2.0, and it adds some notable features for players on all platforms- other than the Switch.

For starters, players on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PS4 Pro can now play Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater at an upscaled 4K resolution, courtesy of a new Adjusted Mode, which uses an internal upscales to allow for improved visual quality. On Xbox Series S and PS4, meanwhile, the game is upscaled to 1080p.

Multiple different custom settings for internal resolution and upscaling have also been added in on all of the aforementioned platforms. Though update 2.0 has launched for the game’s Switch version as well, it doesn’t include any of the aforementioned improvements, instead just bringing new controller settings and fixes for other minor issues.

Konami has kept up a decent cadence of updates for Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1, which, after its somewhat rough launch, is worth noting, at the very least, especially with the company having confirmed that a Master Collection Vol. 2 is also in the works.

Series producer Noriaki Okamura says the development team will do "everything we can" to avoid a rough launch similar to Vol. 1.

A second collection of Metal Gear Solid ports is in the works, Konami has confirmed. Speaking during a recently uploaded “Production Hotline” video, Metal Gear series producer Noriaki Okamura confirmed that Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 is indeed being worked on, but stopped short of giving further details.

In a Production Hotline video earlier in the year, Okamura said that Konami hadn’t yet decided what games were going to be included in Master Collection Vol. 2, and speaking in the recent video, he elaborated further on why that decision hasn’t been made, explaining that unlike the games included in Vol. 1, other Metal Gear titles don’t have existing HD ports that can be used for a new collection, while those that are already in HD are quite large in scale, which comes with its own challenges.

“We had HD ports of MGS1, 2, and 3. Or, sorry, not really for 1, but the other two,” Okamura said. “But most of the titles released after those don’t have a pre-existing HD port we could use. Some are in HD, but those would all be really big titles, and that comes with its own set of issues.

“So with all those factors to consider with the lineup, anything along the lines of ‘what’s in it?’ or questions like ‘how long will it be in development? When will it be out?’ It’s going to be a little while until we can get a clear picture, but when we do, we’ll let you know here.”

Okamura then went on to very explicitly confirm that Konami is indeed working on Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2, before acknowledging the issues that Vol. 1 launched with, and providing assurances that the company will avoid similar mistakes with the next collection.

“Of course, we called the first one Vol. 1, so we are making a Vol. 2, that much is for sure,” Okamura said. “We’re also worried about how Vol. 1 had a pretty rough launch, with all the issues, so we’re going to do everything we can to not repeat that, but we just have to ask for everyone to give us time.”

Earlier this year, reports claimed that the lineup of titles for Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 would include Metal Gear Solid 4, Metal Gear Solid 5, and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, something that prior datamining leaks had suggested as well.

Meanwhile, Konami is also continuing to work on Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, having recently showcased the upcoming remake’s opening, and confirming that it’s now fully playable behind-the-scenes from start to finish. A release date hasn’t yet been announced, but the game will be playable at TGS later in September.

Metal Gear Solid 3 on Steam also gets an Additional Settings menu with audio and screen options, mouse sensitivity and more.

While it’s currently one of the best contemporary ways to experience the first three titles, Konami’s Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 has its fair share of issues. It will address missing Codec/radio voice data and “unnatural” keyboard controls on PC in a future update, but in the meantime, Ver.1.5.0 is out now on Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater also gets various Additional Settings in its Options menu on PC, allowing players to adjust the audio, screen options, mouse sensitivity and more. The update also fixes an issue with some low-resolution character textures.

The development team is investigating an issue where audio distortions occur on the Nintendo Switch, so stay tuned for further updates and check out the full Ver.1.5.0 notes below.

The update adds smoothing, a scanline filter, and screen options for Metal Gear Solid 1, including 16:9 (which isn't widescreen).

After launching last month for PC, the latest update for Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 is now available for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch. You can check out the patch notes here for more details.

In a nutshell, it adds new screen features to Metal Gear Solid 1, like smoothing and a filter to enable scanlines. There are also options for displaying the game in Standard, Pixel Perfect and 16:9. It’s worth noting that 16:9 isn’t widescreen but a stretched version of the Standard gameplay.

Audio settings have also been added to every game in the collection, allowing one to adjust the volume in-game and the main menu. Stay tuned for more details on further updates for the collection. You can also check out our review here.

In other Metal Gear Solid-related news, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is coming this year to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, according to a new trailer from PlayStation.

The update goes live in early January 2024, adding new screen features like a 16:9 presentation and a scanline filter for MGS1.

Konami’s latest update for Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 is now available on PC and arrives for consoles early next month. It adds several new screen features, like enabling smoothing for Metal Gear Solid 1 and the Bonus Content.

New screen features are also available for the two, like the option to play in fullscreen. You can also go with Standard, Pixel Perfect (which seemingly retains the original aspect ratio), and 16:9, which stretches out the game to fit the screen instead of offering a proper widescreen experience.

You can also turn on a filter to give the first game to give it retro-style scanlines. All titles also receive a new audio settings feature to adjust the game volume and main menu volume before playing. While in-game, you can only change the game volume. Check out some of the patch notes below.

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 is available for Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, PC and Nintendo Switch. Check out our review here.

Ver.1.3.1 also fixes minor issues and makes "additional adjustments" to the Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S and PS4 versions.

Update Ver.1.3.1 for Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 is live on all platforms. It fixes a long-standing issue in Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and Metal Gear 1 and 2, where Trophies wouldn’t unlock on PS4.

However, if you met the requirements for those Trophies already, they won’t be automatically unlocked on loading your save data. You must earn again, unfortunately. Other fixes include changing the in-game browser on Xbox Series X/S to Microsoft Edge and fixing some “minor issues” while making “additional adjustments on Xbox, Nintendo Switch and PS4 for all of the above games.

Check out the full patch notes below. Issues like the laser pointer effect not displaying in some cutscenes in MGS2 and where face paints would be in a lower resolution in MGS 3 on Xbox Series X/S are still under investigation. Stay tuned for more updates, and check out our review here.

Enhance your MGS experience with these PC mods.

Metal Gear fans have been starved for years, but the beloved stealth franchise has started showing signs of life again. Next year’s Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is obviously the main meal that series fans are really looking forward to, but Konami recently brought back multiple older instalments in the comprehensive Master Collection. There are, however, several ways where the collection doesn’t do everything it can, where the community, as always, has stepped in to offer its own improvements. To that end, here, we’re going to talk about the best PC mods available right now for Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 on NexusMods that will further polish and enhance your experience.

MGS3MC BETTER AUDIO (uploaded by KnightKiller)

Master Collection Vol. 1 launched with a quite a few audio issues, many of which persist even now, though at the very least, where the collection’s version of Metal Gear Solid 3 is concerned, there is an available fix. The MGS3MC Better Audio mod, as its name suggests, targets audio fixes in codec calls, cutscenes, and pre-rendered cinematics. Obviously, it’s not a perfect fix, and you may still run into some issues, but several users seem to have reported notable improvements with the mod.

MGS HD FIX (uploaded by Wintermance)

While there’s certainly no doubting that Master Collection Vol. 1 packs in a lot of value in terms of pure content, it does leave something to be desired where technical enhancements and features are concerned. The MGS HD Fix mod does do a little something to curtail that though. Most significantly, it adds support for ultrawide and custom resolutions, while also bringing a borderless/windowed mode and a 16:9 HUD option, among other things. The mod doesn’t work with Metal Gear Solid 1 though, so keep that in mind.

METAL GEAR SOLID HD (uploaded by Snaksolid)

If you do want to apply similar audio and visual technical improvements to Metal Gear Solid 1, the Metal Gear Solid HD mod is worth looking into. In addition to locking the frame rate at 60 FPS, it applies a CRT filter while running the game in a sized 4K window, reducing input lag. Meanwhile, audio crackling and distortion issues are also addressed. The results are quite effective.

MGS3 – HIGH RESOLUTION TEXTURES (uploaded by liqMix)

Moving beyond technical enhancements and the addition of missing features, there are options available for those looking for just plain improved graphics as well. In the case of Metal Gear Solid 3, for instance, the MGS3 High Resolution Textures mod, for instance, does exactly what its name suggests. It’s not particularly comprehensive in nature, and basically just applies an upscaling pass to everything in the game, but the results can be quite clear in several places, with upscaling being done by up to 4x in various cases.

MGS2 – HIGH RESOLUTION TEXTURES (uploaded by liqMix)

The MGS2 High Resolution Textures mod does for Metal Gear Solid 2 pretty much exactly what the aforementioned mod does for MGS3. All textures in the game (including minimaps) are upscaled by 2x or 4x, which means that, by and large, image quality throughout the experience is notably sharper and higher quality than in the release’s base version.

FRAMERATE UNLOCKER (uploaded by TriggerHappyMGO)

For those who’re willing to experiment with a work in progress mod to potentially play at higher frame rates, the Framerate Unlocker mod will allow you to do just that. Currently, it works only for Metal Gear Solid 3, and as the mod’s creator states on its NexusMods page, it’s still a work in progress and certainly not devoid of any issues, though it should be interesting to see how it evolves and what avenues it opens up for other performance improvements.

One of Metal Gear Solid 3’s most frustrating eccentricities is not being able to move Naked Snake while he’s crouched- you can do one or the other, but not both. MGS3’s 3DS version remains the only version of the game that lets you do that, though thankfully, with the MGS3 Crouch Walk mod installed, that feature can be added to Master Collection Vol. 1 on PC as well. You can do both fast and slow crouch walks, enemies react and behave accordingly, and your camo index adjusts dynamically as well. Presumably (or hopefully, at least), we’ll see something similar in next year’s Snake Eater remake as well.

MORE MGSV ACCURATE PARASITES (uploaded by Avaresst)

This one is for the lore enthusiasts, and in particular, for those who want a little bit of Metal Gear Solid 5 in their Metal Gear Solid 3. The More MGSV Accurate Parasites mod does exactly what its name suggests, and applies new cosmetic textures to members of the Cobra Unit – i.e. The Pain, The Fear, and The End – to make them look more similar to The Phantom Pain’s Parasite Unit. Obviously not a major addition, but one that hardcore series fans will likely appreciate nonetheless.

SPLINTER CELL GOGGLES (uploaded by Kyim)

There’s a massive overlap between the fanbases of Metal Gear and Splinter Cell for obvious reasons, and the two beloved stealth franchises have often playfully winked at each other in the past as well. If you want to make that a little more overt, you can use the Splinter Cell Goggles mod, which retextures the Thermal Goggles and Night Vision goggles to make them look more like the iconic goggles worn by Splinter Cell protagonist Sam Fisher. It’s not an exact replica, but it looks close enough.

BLACK SHAGOHOD (uploaded by RayAfgrond)

We’ll sign off with another mod that’s purely cosmetic in nature, but certainly still worth a look, thanks to its solid results. The Black Shagohod mod’s name is perfectly self explanatory. It takes the massive tank’s classic camo look and replaces it with a sleeker, darker, and more uniform colour scheme. Obviously, mileage will vary here, and some will still prefer the tank’s original look, but if you’re willing to try out something new in your next playthrough, this mod is worth looking into.

Meanwhile, Super Mario Bros. Wonder is still on top of the charts, having sold an additional 163,000 copies.

Famitsu has released the latest weekly data for hardware and physical software sales in Japan, and Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 has debuted high in the charts. The collection occupies second and third place with its Switch and PS5 versions respectively, collectively having sold over 37,000 physical units at launch (over 19,000 on Switch, and over 13,000 on PS5).

It has, however, not been able to take the top spot, which is still occupied by Super Mario Bros. Wonder. The acclaimed 2D platformer debuted on top of the charts last week with over 638,000 units sold, and in its second week, it has managed to hold on to the No. 1 position quite comfortably, having sold an additional 163,000+ units. Meanwhile, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has slipped down to No. 4, selling over 12,000 units in its second week.

On the hardware side of things, the Nintendo Switch takes the lead once more, surprising no one, having moved over 66,000 units. What is a surprise, however, is the Xbox Series X/S having outsold the PS5, something that has very rarely happened in Japan- though ultimately, neither of the two has posted impressive numbers.

You can check out the full hardware and physical software sales charts for the week ending October 29 below.
