The lower-end requirements for Konami's next retro collection have been significantly increased compared to the first volume.

System requirements are finally out for Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 on PC, and there are some rather surprising details. According to Steam, you’ll need Windows 11 (64-bit) and 16 GB of RAM at the very minimum to run the title. A solid-state drive is also recommended.

Other minimum requirements include an Intel Core i5-9600K, 16 GB RAM, and Nvidia GeForce GTX 970. On the recommended side, a Core i5-10500, 16 GB RAM and a GTX 1650 are required, with a solid-state drive seemingly mandatory. In both cases, you’ll need 34 GB of installation space.

Considering the jump in hardware requirements for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots compared to previous games, especially in the old days, it’s somewhat understandable. However, the minimum RAM requirement is surprising, considering it’s the same as Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, developed entirely on Unreal Engine 5.

It’s all moot, of course, since we don’t know how the emulation process works, or whether Metal Gear Solid 4 and Peace Walker offer even higher graphical options than the classics. Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 launches on August 27th for Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, PC, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. While Metal Gear Online isn’t included, Peace Walker’s co-op modes have survived the jump.

Bring your buddies along to one of the more underrated titles in the Metal Gear Solid franchise, thanks to either co-op or PvP.

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 finally got its release date at yesterday’s State of Play, and we jumped for joy at the chance to play Metal Gear Solid 4 again. But there’s another excellent decision that perhaps went unnoticed by the masses waiting to get their hands on it.

We’re talking about Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker retaining its online co-op modes, a feature that did not receive its due back when the game first came out but remains as one of our favorite parts. You get to bring your friends along to its rather elaborate main missions complete with insane boss fights, or duke it out in deathmatches with up to six players which becomes quite challenging as you understand the mechanics.

Taking such a crucial part of the experience might not have been well-received, and its clear that Konami felt the same way, retaining the online modes despite taking them out of Metal Gear Solid 4’s latest version. With the Nintendo Switch 2 being a part of its list of compatible platforms, Peace Walker could very well see a new lease of life as more players discover the joys of bringing a few friends along to missions that were designed around cooperative play.

This Summer is going to be a good one for you if you’re a Metal Gear Solid fan with Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 out on August 27th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2.

A date for the presentation wasn't revealed, though Konami recently provided plenty of other updates on the series' future.

Konami recently released a 20-minute Metal Gear Production Hotline with updates on the series, and it does have some interesting albeit small announcements. However, another video presentation is coming soon with “bigger” announcements for the series (per leaker Dusk Golem on ResetEra).

For now, Konami says that new titles and additional remakes could be considered based on player feedback. It also acknowledged Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 2, noting that its titles and release date haven’t been decided, so fans must wait “a little longer.” Vol. 1 is still getting support, including controller config options and fixes for missing Codec/radio voice data and the keyboard controls.

A solution for the upscaling solution, considered “inadequate”, is also under investigation. Finally, it showcased the menu screen for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, which is out this year as per PlayStation. Perhaps the major video presentation will provide an official release. We’ll have to wait for more details, so stay tuned.
