Some of the most disappointing exclusive launches we've seen on the Xbox One.

Though Microsoft have been taking huge steps to make sure that their first party lineup is stronger next generation that it ever has been, a lack of quality exclusives is still one of the Xbox One’s biggest issues- bigger, in fact, than it ever was for the Xbox or the Xbox 360. Even the exclusives it does have aren’t all good, with many being major and high profile disappointments, and others being not that major, but disappointing nonetheless.

In this feature, we’ll be taking a look at fifteen such disappointing Xbox One exclusives- note that some of these games have been improved significantly since launch thanks to updates, and that we’re primarily talking about disappointing launches. Also note that for the purposes of these list, we’ll only be looking at Xbox One console exclusives.

With all that out of the way, let’s get into it.

RYSE: SON OF ROME

Ryse: Son of Rome took our breath away when it was first revealed, showcasing stunning visuals and looking like the kind of cinematic action adventure killer app that the Xbox family had always been desperately searching for. What we got was a disappointing mess that didn’t even come close to achieving what we had all hoped it would. Sure, it still looked good- but that’s about as far as it went with positives.

It looks like another game has been released way before it was meant to be. The CV of a 343 Industries (a Microsoft studio) employee seems to indicate that Halo 4 is well under development.

A new update on Paul Ehreth’s Linkedin profile says that ever since July 2010, he has been busy ‘designing new levels and missions for the next Halo project’ at 343 Industries.

This is further confirmed by the fact that several ads of job offers came up on Microsoft’s 343 Industries website some days ago, advertising for help on a new Halo project. An ad read: “343 Industries, Microsoft’s internal Halo studio, is looking for an experienced Missions Designer who can design and build missions for our next big project.”

Even Bungie’s boss Brian Jerrard confirmed that he had considered making a Halo 4 before he finally decided on Halo: Reach. He said, “Even before the idea to build a game based around Reach came about, a lot of other concepts were explored, up to and including a proper ‘Halo 4,’ where Master Chief was going to wake up from cryo-sleep and we were going to tell that story.”

Ehreth was formerly with Sony Online Entertainment, but joined forces with Microsoft in June 2009.

In a Q&A with Microsft, when asked: “We expected Rare games at E3 but we only saw Kinect Sports. We can’t believe this is the only game they are working on currently now. Can we expect surprises from Rare in the coming months?”, Microsoft’s Major Nelson replied “Of course,” with a gleeful smile on his face.

What do you people think? Could this possibly be a new Banjo game? Or maybe Perfect Dark might be returning to its days of glory? Tell us what you think in your comments.

Paul Wedgewood, boss of Splash Damage, says he thinks shooters on the Move and Kinect have a lot of potential. While talking to ComputerAndVideoGames.com, the Brink developer stated that he he thought shooters could be done very well on the upcoming motion sensors on the HD consoles.

“I think these motion controllers have amazing potential for shooters, but perhaps not in the way people might immediately think (i.e. controlling motion),” Wedgwood told CVG.

“Perhaps we’ll think about that in the future, but we don’t have any plans for implementation in Brink.”

CVG speculated Wedgewood could be hinting at using Brink’s SMART system. When asked about the said system, Wedgewood said, “The idea is really straightforward. When you’re in combat and you want to get somewhere in the game world, you hold down your SMART button (which doubles as a sprint button) and it will help with jumps, vaults, mantling, sliding, and so on, allowing you to easily navigate any obstacles in your path.”
