Along with announcing that the Nintendo Switch had sold over 100 million units till date, Nintendo also offered updated sales numbers on several titles. This includes newer games like Metroid Dread, which has sold 2.74 million copies as of December 31st 2021. That’s not bad, considering it launched on October 8th and is the first major title in the series since Metroid: Samus Returns from 2017.

Mario Party Superstars performed very well, as expected, with 5.43 million sales since its October 29th launch. The other new title released in the quarter was Big Brain Academy: Brain vs. Brain with 1.28 million sales since launching on December 3rd. Game Builder Garage managed to sell 1.01 million units while WarioWare: Get It Together!, which launched in September 2021, hit 1.24 million sales.

Other noteworthy numbers include Luigi’s Mansion 3 at 11.04 million sales; Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury selling 8.85 million units; The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD at 3.85 million sales; New Pokemon Snap at 2.36 million sales; Mario Golf: Super Rush at 2.26 million units sold; and Miitopia at 1.63 million sales.
4.45 million Switch consoles were sold while software sales hit 45.28 million sold in the three month period ending June 30th.

Even with the Nintendo Switch OLED coming up and rumors of the Switch Pro refusing to die, the base Switch model continues to sell well. In its latest earnings release, Nintendo confirmed that the console has sold 89.04 million units as of June 30th 2021. In the three month period ending June 30th, 4.45 million Switch units were sold.

Software sales were also strong in that period with 45.28 million sold. In terms of sales for new releases, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury managed to sell 6.68 million. New Pokemon Snap, which recently received its first free content update, has sold 2.07 million units while Mario Golf: Super Rush sold 1.34 million units. Miitopia managed to sell 1.04 million since release.

The coming months are looking even better for the Switch, both in terms of hardware and software sales. The Nintendo Switch OLED releases October 8th alongside Metroid Dread while Mario Party Superstars is out on October 29th. November will have titles like Shin Megami Tensei 5 and Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl releasing as well.

Marvelous’ Switch-exclusive life sim RPG Rune Factory 5 isn’t out in the West until later this year, but the game launched in Japan last week, and as you’d expect, enjoyed solid sales. Famitsu has released its newest weekly data for Japanese software and hardware sales, and Rune Factory 5 topped the software charts with over 102,000 units sold. Meanwhile, fellow Switch exclusive Miitopia debuted in second place, selling over 72,000 units.

Monster Hunter Rise is still sticking around the top end of the charts, coming in at third place with over 26,000 units sold, while fellow Capcom megaton Resident Evil Village is in fifth place with over 16,000 units sold throughout the week. Between the two in fourth place is Ring Fit Adventure, selling over 18,000 copies.

Meanwhile, on the hardware front, it’s not surprising at all to see the Switch dominating proceedings again. It was the highest selling console of the week with nearly 100,000 units sold, while the PS5 trailed behind in second place by a considerable margin, selling over 16,000 units.

When Resident Evil Village launched earlier this month, it unsurprisingly debuted on top of the weekly UK retail charts, but was pushed down to second place the following week with Mass Effect: Legendary Edition nabbing the top spot on its own debut. Now, Capcom’s survival horror game has retaken the top spot despite a 61% drop in sales, seeing 44% its sales on PS4 and 29% on PS5 (via GamesIndustry).

Mass Effect, meanwhile, drops down to third place. It saw a 76% drop in sales from last week, and 72% of its sales this week came on the PS4, with the remaining 22% coming on Xbox One. Between the top games is the Switch exclusive Miitopia, which enjoys a decent debut, enjoying 36% higher launch sales when the game launched for the 3DS in 2017.

Rust: Console Edition was another new release last week, and though it didn’t make it into the top 10, it did debut in eleventh place, with 54% sales on PS4 and 46% on Xbox One. Meanwhile, with the likes of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Grand Theft Auto 5, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and the Switch version of Minecraft, the rest of the top 10 is full of familiar faces.

You can check out the full top 10 for the week ending May 22 below.

Announced in February and set to be released on May 21st, the Switch game is a customizable RPG adventure that allows players to use their Miis to take down an evil Dark Lord.

The eShop demo includes the game’s first area and allows players to customize their Miis with wigs and makeup. Nintendo Switch Online subscribers will be able to share their own Miis and download their friends’, as well as popular characters from the game’s original release on the 3Ds in 2017.

As in the 3DS version, Mii characters will be able to build relationships with one another, which will influence how they perform in combat. Progress from the demo can be carried over to the full game, which will retail for $49.99. Nintendo is also launching a new, blue version of the Switch Lite on May 21st, the same day as Miitopia.

Vicarious Visions’ Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy has topped UK charts once again for the week ending July 29th. Gfk Chart-Track confirmed that the remastered trilogy has spent four weeks at the number one spot. Considering how it’s only five weeks old, that’s no small achievement.

Splatoon 2 is still hanging in there though at second place followed by Grand Theft Auto 5 in third and Fallout 4 in fourth place. DOOM is in fifth place while Dishonored 2 hangs out in sixth. Nintendo’s recently released Miitopia on the Nintendo 3DS debuted at seventh place followed by Rugby League Live 4.

FIFA 17 continues to hang on in the charts at ninth place followed by Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands at tenth. Wildlands is an interesting subject since Ubisoft revealed it to be the company’s biggest hit for 2017. In terms of sales in the UK, it’s just behind Grand Theft Auto 5 this year. This week’s charts should be interesting with Patapon Remastered and Tacoma releasing soon but we’ll see which big name game can dethrone King Bandicoot himself.

Less love for 3DS game Gudetama Okawari Ikagassuka.

This week’s Famitsu review scores are out and this time around, they’ve reviewed quite the eclectic group. The week’s winner is pretty easy to determine, since Yakuza 6 gained scores of 10, 10, 9 and 10. No other game on this week’s list came anywhere close to getting review scores that good.

On the low end scale of things, a Nintendo 3DS game called Gudetama Okawari Ikagassuka got straight 7s. In other words, it wasn’t exactly given bad reviews, but its not nearly as good as some of the others. Two other 3DS games, Puyo Puyo Chronicle and Megami Meguri both received 8’s across the board.

Nintendo Everything reports the scores included Drive Club VR, which had scores of 7, 8, 7 and 9. Banner Saga 2 for the PS4 also had a bit of a range with scores of 8, 7, 7, and 9. Finally another 3DS game known of Militopia received scores of 7, 8, 8, and 8. The big take away from these scores is, it doesn’t appear you can go wrong with Yakuza 6. Now if only Sega releases it in the west.
