Switch hardware and software continues to perform strongly, as PS4 continues to suffer a decline.

It’s Wednesday, which means that it’s time for the latest Media Create reports. Media Create releases weekly reports on video game hardware and software sales in Japan, and this week’s numbers won’t be a surprise to anyone who has even a passing familiarity with the Japanese market.

On the hardware side of things, the Nintendo Switch topped charts with almost 51,000 units sold- this was more than what every other system sold put together, doubled. As for those other systems, the PS4 continues its sharp decline, with only 18,000 units sold, while the 3DS rounds out the top three with a tepid 7,000 units sold.

On the software side of things, Mario Tennis Aces and Minecraft for Switch held on to the top two positions, while The Crew 2 debuted in third place, with 17,500 units sold. The Switch version of Ys 8 debuted in seventh place, with almost 6,500 units sold. Meanwhile, Switch mainstays- Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, Kirby Star Allies, Super Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 2, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Labo, the Switch version of FIFA 18 (for some reason), and, of course, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild– all continued their streak of consistently charting in the top 20 software chart, too.

You can check out the numbers for yourself below. As for the Japanese charts going forward, next week, Octopath Traveler launches- I can’t wait to see how that does.
